I guess I was wrong to assume that I was speaking to a group that respected scientists and doctors. Sure, Dr. Fauci had some things wrong - who didn't at first as this is a novel virus that will rewrite textbooks? My concern is that if you're not listening to Dr. Fauci, who is held in extremely high regard in the medical community, then who are you listening to? Alex Jones, lol?!

I would think that with their resources, they could have certified professionals with certified kits on the spot for each team in their facilities, and able to instantly have results and instant reporting to the league.
i'm sure they have a contract with a lab, but results still take time.

as for rapid tests, i'm not sure I'd trust those for much one way or the other. it's something, and if something is better than nothing then i guess. but i'm not wired that way, sometimes something isn't better if it gives false senses of security or puts people thru lots of undue situations. In the end those rapid tests always need to be confirmed thru other testing anyway.

there are plenty of people as educated as Dr. Fauci who have disagreed with him from the beginning. Everybody in a rush to right and "win" something I guess.

let's not act as if "science" is determined and Doctors and scientists agree on everything. and most people are getting a digested version that they either chose to agree with or dismiss. many don't have a rudimentary background to really have much of an opinion more than someone picks one because they like the person giving it.

anyway, welcome to America, where a household with undergrad degrees in bio/chem and micro bio, both with laboratory working experience ranging from the 1st licensed canine lyme vaccine to drug resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae post graduate work at a Big10 school and both have doctorate degrees can be called "anti-science" by anyone that watches the "news" because they happen to have a different view on things LOL

but those who think the virus was a hoax are as correct about things as those who thought shutting down for a couple weeks was any sort of solution or step towards resolution.

Doctors and scientists are one and the same. They should agree on things that are objective or neither is playing their part. The objectivity here is that the virus is hardier than we expected and deadlier and without interventions millions will die. Now, after that opinions can vary on how we're to dig out of this mess because COVID-19 is not going away - though the administration that hoped that Jared Kushner and his team of 20-year-old volunteers in charge of the countries PPE sure will be.

It’s so funny to me when people think that it’s only the other side that’s biased or ever does/says something immoral.

Pretty early on but after the SSC threw out the lockdown order I had waited on one customer who was not wearing a mask. The next customer was wearing one and she started railing on the previous guy and she said "I saw a report that said wearing a mask really helps prevent the spread of the virus" Against my better judgement I replied "and he probably saw a report that said it doesn't help" to which she responded with a completely straight face "yeah but I only listen to non biased sources" I almost laughed out loud and but I did resist the intense urge to say "I'm sure he thinks he does too"

Here is the thing as far as I am concerned. The real story is likely somewhere in between. Its more than the flu but its not going to wipe out half the population. I think both sides are making **** up or at least bending the stats to their advantage. Are people dying who have other issues but the deaths are being labeled as Covid? I am sure they are. Would these people have died if they had not contracted covid? nobody knows. Did they die from Covid? Maybe not but it certainly may have helped them along so IMO it is covid related? On the flip side how many people are infected that we don't know about? Probably many times more than have tested positive. People talk about false positives but what about false negatives and the people who never get tested? I know several people who have shown many of the symptoms. Some have tested positive and some have tested negative and some never bothered to get tested at all. Did (do) they have it? Maybe, maybe not. Were they careful to limit their exposure to others? Yes they were and to my knowledge no one who had close contact with them got sick. One friend who tested positive has a wife and 2 kids and none of them got sick or showed any symptoms. The problem with that is it has been said that many people who had it didn't show any symptoms so maybe they did have it after all.

IMO the majority of people made up their minds long before enough accurate information was available to be able to form a reasonable opinion. Hell I'm not even sure there is enough of that information available now. Their side said this so that's what they believe and its so far entrenched that they won't change their minds now no matter what. People have said "if they are that worried about it they should just stay home" which fits perfectly with the "I got mine screw everyone else" mentality. I don't wear a mask because I think it will protect me or even that I think it will protect others. I wear one because it's no big deal and if it helps make someone else feel comfortable then I'm OK with it. What ever happened to caring about your fellow human beings.

I'm sorry to continue this thread derailment but it was a thread about covid 19. I tried to keep my politics out of it as much as I could and I try to see both sides of it. To help try to get it back on track I hope that the game is pushed to Sunday (or Monday) and that Aaron Jones is ready to return and losing Dillon (if that happens) will not be an issue.

no they shouldn't. Things don't behave the same in a lab as they do in the wild. Doctors and scientists will always be at odds with one or the other based on just that alone. We won't get into the subjectivity of what we think is objective between the 2 disciplines. and they should always be questioning each other even when they mostly agree. if everyone is thinking the same, nobody is thinking.

Doctors are scientists and expected to practice evidence-based medicine. Their decisions are entrenched in objectivity. Objectivity is not debatable. You see it or you don't. Subjectivity comes when the rules or science has yet to be written. So I'd disagree that doctors and scientists will always be at odds.

Doctors and scientists are humans, which means they have presuppositions, hierarchies of values, biases, and goals. So their decisions and conclusions will often be at odds even if they’re technically working from the same data sets. And their prescriptions will vary widely, as we’ve seen in regards to the COVID-19 stuff.

Do you understand why its referred to as "practicing medicine"?

Cause I'm not sure you do

(i won't even touch on the part were you acted like science can/does come to a conclusion and then the rules are set.)

Jamal Williams and Kamal Martin have been determined to be close contacts. the league is now determining if they are deemed to be high risk close contacts. if so they must quarantine for at least 5 days and will miss Thursday

Sweet If Jones still can't go I was really hoping to see what MVS, Sheppard or ESB looked like at RB......

Let's just say I'm extremely aware.

No I wouldnt say you are after reading through your posts about how doctors are operating off of objective truths and that subjectivity plays no part with them

You’re more than free to disagree. When it takes a panel and years of debates to kind of create “evidence based medicine” protocols with many as educated or more so than those on a panel still not all in agreement, I don’t buy that objectivity isn’t debatable :) it obviously is.

Especially the way it started with the postponements and rescheduling early on.

Thankfully, after tomorrow, it will all go away. Personally I find it amazing that whichever side it is pushing whatever agenda that they got the entire world to go along with it and ruin their economies just to influence our election.
It actually is worth it for the world to get rid of him. He is one dangerous sob.

if that's the case, they'd have to do a re-test today, because of the false positive rates, how did they get a confirmation test done already?

They have to get the test results before the game i'd think, if not, then how can they get a confirmation test done same day, but not game day?

i have not followed what their protocol is or even what tests they're using if that's available for us to know.

Or he's just placed on covid list and played safe until 2nd test comes back?
If it is the good test (way up the nostrils); there are not many false positives. And those are lab errors. They do have false negatives though.

I’m just a lowly nurse, not a doctor. But I can tell you that within the medical community there are plenty of doctors/nurses and other healthcare professionals on both ends of the spectrum and biases/beliefs definitely play a role. I literally have witnessed healthcare professionals say this is a political hoax as well as others who think this pandemic is the scariest thing ever.

Don't confuse expert opinion with objectivity. Plenty of guidelines are based on expert opinion. The point is, scientists and doctors are one and the same. Doctors base decisions off of objectivity as best they can, then their own expert opinion comes in. Different decisions can be based on the same science, ex. the choice to kill e. coli with one antibiotic or another. As long as you know what kills it (based off of science) then you're free to choose your hammer given the context of the situation. There are no absolutes in this world, I'm just stating the way it should be.

Who knows if shutting down would have worked? Nothing can work if half the people scoff and just go about their lives.

Shutting down, in the truest sense (home for weeks) would rid the planet of COVID-19 transmission. There is no question. Eliminate the transmission, eliminate the virus (within humans).

We actually do know that they would not have worked. Several countries in Europe locked down hard, and they are getting crushed right now.

Lockdowns are a delay tactic, not a solution. If you lock down hard, you buy time. But the wave will catch up when you release the lock down.

Hence why the U.S. was criticized for not following the tactics common in the E.U. until fairly recently, when the cases in the E.U. started to sky rocket.

Similarly, the states in the U.S. that avoided big waves in the early stages are being hit harder now. The states that got hit the hardest earlier are not.
