I think we have a really great shot at either a top left tackle or JSN. I also read somewhere that players chosen with the 13 pick have a great track record of becoming pro bowlers.
I read the same article. Basically, it compared the historical success of the #13 pick VS the #15 pick, to show just how big of a move it could be for the Packers. While I totally agree, it might put them in a better spot to get a top 5-7 non-QB player, it also could give them more power and value in a trade down or the ability to trade up. It will all just depend on who the Packers covet and how the picks start falling. All that said, yes, that 2 position swap could turn out to be very valuable for the Packers.

You know who I am thinking more and more might be a surprise pick for GB should he make it to the third...Tanner McKee. Has the arm presence to make any throw, cerebral and intelligent, could easily consume the MLF system...not a fleet footed passer so would be in full reliance on the system making things happen not him creating.

The bonus with McKee is that yes he is skilled and some were arguing he was and some say still is the 5th best QB in this draft - he would not be a threat to Jordan Love, but also wouldn't be a "JAG" prospect either with zero expectations would the need arise for him to take snaps.

Tanner and Jaren Hall are two higher floor but lesser known ceiling types that I think Packer nation shouldn't be surprised if late Day 2 or early Day 3 we see coming to GB

Love McKee and I think this is a good call.

Never hurts to have 2 budding young QB's, Wolf proved that. Gives you a capable back-up and potential trade bait further down the line. While I love when the Packers hit on a 5th round pick (Aaron Jones), history shows that it is more often that they don't. So to me, any position, even a great K, is open season once you hit that round.

Captain help me please. What did David Montgomery get to sign with Detroit? What is Aaron Jones being paid by the Packers? IMO Jones would get between 10 & 15% more than DMont on the open market. Not asking for a friend this time.
Montgomery signed 3yr/$18Mil w/ $4.5Mil SB & $8.75Mil guaranteed with Detroit ($6mil/yr avg.). Aaron Jones signed a 4yr/$48Mil deal in '21 ($12Mil/yr avg.). He took a base salary cut of $5Mil to stay in GB in '23, but can still collect $12.2mil (+ $2.3Mil bonuses) cash over the next 2 years. His dead money, however, is $18mil if cut in '23, or $12.3Mil if cut prior to '24 season. AJ's got 3 void years in '25-'27, so if not re-signed after the '24 season will still account for $6.638mil dead money in '25.

With all the late smoke around Kincaid and JSN, I find it interesting that those two guys essentially play the same position.

Smith-Njigba is a slot WR who can play outside, but probably isn't best suited to.

Kincaid is a flex TE who can play in-line, but probably isn't best suited to.

What they both are in their essence are sure-handed, underneath separators with some YAC ability.

The last mock I made:

13: R1 P13 OT Paris Johnson Jr. - Ohio State
42: R2 P11 TE Darnell Washington - Georgia
45: R2 P14 DE Adetomiwa Adebawore - Northwestern
78: R3 P15 TE Tucker Kraft - South Dakota State
116: R4 P14 S Ji'Ayir Brown - Penn State
149: R5 P14 G Jordan McFadden - Clemson
207: R6 P30 DL Moro Ojomo - Texas
232: R7 P15 EDGE Tavius Robinson - Ole Miss
235: R7 P18 LB Ventrell Miller - Florida
242: R7 P25 C Juice Scruggs - Penn State
256: R7 P39 WR Elijah Higgins - Stanford

1) Obviously this was made online so accounting for sleepers/guys to fall (Brown, Robinson, Miller, etc.) has to be taken into consideration...More than likely what will happen tonight/this weekend will not reflect the generated draft I was in to make these 11 picks

2) This isn't my ideal draft from a fan perspective-it's what I think Gute is more than likely to want to do based on previous drafts

3) No QB taken because I believe Gute wants to ensure Jordan is as confident as possible going into the season and he doesn't need to look over his shoulder. I could see GB signing some camp arms as UDFA/considering bringing in a veteran FA closer to TC once Love feels even more entrenched as the starter by going through the rest of this spring and mini-camp, but Brian doesn't want #10 questioning whether or not he has to compete for the role going into '23

4) Essentially it's us taking three TEs because Higgins looks the part of an F/H/Allen Lazard-Josiah Deguara replacement that while maybe listed officially as a wideout would surely spend time in both WR & TE rooms

5) MLF would be giddy with this draft if it fell as constructed. Bully ball here we come...

Thoughts?

Everyone knows my day 3 crushes include Tavius and DUDE Juice Scruggs may very well be one of the top three pure centers in this draft...for him to get to the 7th would be AWESOME IMO

I do not like either one of them at 13. I do like JSN much better than Kincaid.

While the defense may be short a few key pieces, as well as a solid DC, I hope the Pack decides to go offensive with their first 3 out of 4/5 picks. Obviously, BPA applies sometimes, but they really need to look past 2023 and begin setting the table up better for Love, than they did for AR. That would include a WR, TE and OL.

IF they are really high on JSN and he is there at 13, I wouldn't mind the pick. The 2nd round should still contain one of the top 4 TE's and a decent OL. What I wouldn't want to see is them using one of their 2nd rounders to move up in either round. I think in this draft and with the Packers situation, more picks in the first 3 rounds is better, than less picks.

I'm predicting a trade down tonight and we end up with either Meyers or Kincaid with a late 1st round pick and an extra pick in the 2nd or early 3rd. If TB wanted to move up to get a QB, I'd be fine with giving them #13 for their #19 and #50.

I am good with either of them. The track record of 1st round TE's makes me nervous about Kincaid, but I can't help liking the player. A trade down for him would be ideal. Hard to know what would be possible given that more teams want to come up than down (it seems).

But I can certainly see the logic in giving Love a reliable outlet underneath who has the skills to separate from single coverage. I think that describes both prospects.

"The Packers have traded the 13th Pick of the 2023 NFL Draft to.......for their 2024 1st round pick and......."

Honestly....there are very few guys I think will be there I'm excited to hear their name called....I'll fully embrace movement from Gute this year.

I will absolutely laugh my *** off when Gute drafts Bijan in the first round.

To be honest, I'd probably embrace him before JSN at #13, Bijan I at least have rated as a high enough prospect...I just have a hard no RB in first rule so I'd never do it. He is special.

As long as it's offense I will get behind it. Support Love. JSN, Bijan, Mayer, Kincaid, Wright/Skoronski.

I have a nagging feeling that our group reaction is going to be more of "WTH?!?!!" than "Yeah!! I told you so!"

Maybe someone nobody saw coming like a 'Calijah Kancey'.

I'm thinking it's between TE and JSN. I'm seeing on Twitter the draft pundits are expecting several TE's to go off the board in the first. If we want a TE (and we do) we probably have to take them in the first.

Many that have credible pasts in predicting are saying no more than three go in the first, two are concensus predictors (Mayer and Kincaid).

Very well may be...but I also think a very likely "left field" type is Keion White or Nolan Smith...would be very Rashan Gary esq type.

Love that draft. A-

The only thing I’d change is WR by #149 area at latest. Unless we plan on getting Someone significant in FA
My 2 favorites without going too far back is Michael Wilson or Mingo etc.

Those first 4 players alone is a good draft. The rest is just extra chocolate filling and frosting everywhere

I checked and it can be streamed for free on Plutotv. Pluto carries NFL channel as well as CBS HQ sports. I have the Pluto app on all my devices. Also the NFL app is carrying it free. Youtube is offering up the first round free.

Lukas Van Ness, ED/DL, Iowa:

-6'5" 272#
-4.58 w/ 1.57 split
-4.32/7.02 agilities

Myles Murphy, ED, Clemson:

-
6'5" 268#
-4.53 w/1.59 split
-4.29/ 7.21 agilities

These guys are so rare that if you go looking for players who ran sub 4.6 and were sub 4.35/7.30 in the agilities at 265+, you almost can't find guys. The ones who actually hit those are in bold below.

The rest are the closest athletic comps otherwise that I can find in recent combine history (i.e. post 2010):

-Trey Hendrickson, FAU, 2017: 6'4", 266#, 4.65, 4.40, 7.03
-Jadeveon Clowney, SC, 2014: 6'5", 266#, 4.53, 4.43, 7.27
-Owamagba Odighizuwa, UCLA, 2015: 6'4", 267#, 4.62, 4.19, 7.36
-Bradley Chubb, NCSU, 2018: 6'4", 269#, 4.65, 4.41, 7.37
-Bud Dupree, Kentucky, 2015: 6'4", 269#, 4.56, 4.48, 7.52
-Ezekiel Ansah, BYU, 2013: 6'5", 271#, 4.63, 4.26, 7.11
-Nick Perry, USC, 2012: 6'5", 271#, 4.55, 4.66, 7.25
-Travon Walker, UGA, 2022: 6'5", 272#, 4.51, 4.32, 6.89
-Myles Garrett, TAMU, 2014: 6'4", 272#, 4.64, 4.20, N/A
-Emmanuel Ogbah, MIZZ, 2016: 6'4", 273#, 4.63, 4.50, 7.26
-Everson Griffen, USC, 2010: 6'3", 273#, 4.65, 4.36, 7.25
-Carlos Basham, WF, 2021: 6'3", 274#, 4.62, 4.32, 7.13
-Rashan Gary, MICH, 2019: 6'4", 277#, 4.58, 4.29, 7.26
-Carlo Dunlap, FLA, 2010: 6'6", 278#, 4.68, 4.61, 7.21
-DaQuan Bowers, CLEM, 2011: 6'3", 280#, 6.64, 4.57, 6.98

We throw around the term "freak" in the pre-draft process a lot. It's annoying, because a "freak" should rightly refer to someone who is so athletic that you almost never see comparable guys. The term actually applies to Van Ness and Murphy. These are rare, rare athletes, and they're both young and still developing. As you can see, guys like this almost never bust. Even when they aren't homeruns, they're high floor players who return a lot of value. And when they really hit, they're some of the most valuable players in the league.

Bump
