I forgot about biegel...

Yup Adams (stress fracture and surgery) will be out long enough that he will see no preseason action, which for a rookie, is pretty much a Redshirt rookie season and if possible.....a trip to the IR. Biegel is still on PUP, but took part in some activities, so that is a good sign? Fingers crossed on King. At least nobody has fallen off a bike getting to the practice field. :coffee:

Releasing Sitton made the team worse and the money wasn't used for anything. Terrible move. Why couldn't TT make another move that doesn't really have any upside for the team, like releasing/trading Cobb?

I can't even comprehend how bad it would be to have 3 receivers each making $12m/yr on one team. Especially with Rodgers as your QB. TT should be fired immediately if he does it.

I agree that it seemed like an odd move at that point to release Sitton shortly before the start of last season but there's no doubt it worked out pretty well as Taylor did a decent job replacing him and the Packers saved several millions of cap space in the process.

In my opinion it would be smart for the Packers to keep their top three wide receivers around for the 2018 season. I would be in favor of renegotiating Cobb's contract to lower his cap hit as well as signing Adams to a team friendly extension early this season.

How did that make the team worse? Lane Taylor played pretty good, and Sitton was injured in Chicago.

Taylor had a decent season in 2016 but there's absolutely no doubt Sitton performed at a higher level for the Bears.

Taylor "could have been a huge" drop off from Sitton.....but turns out he wasn't, and the coaches were confident enough that he wouldn't be.....any of us who questioned Sitton getting cut should learn by this.

Moves like Thompson releasing Sitton last season mostly don't work out that well though.

At least nobody has fallen off a bike getting to the practice field. :coffee:

I expect Janis to take care of that at some point. ;)

The Lowry praise parade is continuing, apparently he looks really good in camp and practices with a remarkable amount of intensity. Between the camp repoprts and his play down the stretch last year I'm excited.

Kenny Clark, not sure if he can't keep the weight up but Id like to see him get up to 330 and be used as a feature nose tackle say 30-40 snaps a game.

I can see a year or two timeframe where we have three WR's making north of 10M a year. We have other position groups where most everybody is "underpaid". Which means on their first contract. Ebb and flow of cap mgmt. No big deal.

Then again, my only "issue" was getting nothing (but cap savings) for Sitton and potential depth issues as a result of injuries, but oh well.......
It was not just a money saving issue. Sitton was complaining to teammates about his contract extension negotiations. Team chemistry is very important and malcontents are moved along. Not sure how much of a factor that was in the decision, they must have been rather confident in Lang one way or the other.

With the benefit of hindsight, I can't believe there is a single soul who really watches the Packers thinks that letting Sitton go was a bad move. I mean I can believe it, because I hear crazy stuff every day from Packer fans, but i can't believe it. The season happened, everyone can see what it was, not what they thought it might be. I guess perception is everything and I can't figure out how some people perceive what they do.

Second time you've spelt L-A-N-E Taylor wrong.

From the rules:

There you have it. :coffee:

Good chart and while I agree with it (in hindsight), it could have also read:

"Lane Taylor injured in first game, Packers have no answers to fix guard position" and or "Looking back on the Josh Sitton trade two years later. Who would have thought that "Joe Schmo", the player the Packers drafted with the pick they received in the Josh Sitton trade, would turn into an all pro CB this fast".

Again, the release of Sitton worked out, score one for the Packers front office. However, it also could have backfired or have been done earlier (trade) to further benefit the team.

You can't police the mods. Instead take it out on the things they love, like their vendor stands.

I would have traded Sitton for Sherman and the Seahawks #1 and #2 picks. Then I woulda have traded both of those picks with Cleveland for th #1 overall pick and taken Myles Garrett. Guess I win your little checkmark challenge?

Point is, if TT could have traded Sitton, he would have. Anyone who thinks otherwise has somehow not noticed how much TT values draft picks.

Good thing Poppa has a great sense of humor.

I'm not convinced that Thompson tried to trade Sitton during or prior to the 2016 Draft.

In all fairness though, the organization may not have felt comfortable at that time that Lane Taylor was ready to be the starting LG.

Me? If I were in Thompson's shoes with the info we have available, I would have made the trade during or prior to the draft. There is no way I would have been willing to go forward with both guards contracts expiring after the 16 season.

That would have assured you a victory, hands down.

Hundley is continuing his lack luster performance. This guy has raised suspicion about his ability to perform and his continued lack luster performance has solidified those concerns. I guess we will see this preseason.

Have you been watching the practices? I haven't read any comments about his performance so far this camp.

just read about him on http://packerswire.usatoday.com/201...ng-camp-stock-up-stock-down-after-first-week/
QB Brett Hundley: This is a really important time for a young backup quarterback with aspirations of being an NFL starter. Hundley’s most significant work will come during the preseason games, but he’s been shaky at times in pressure drills and a little careless with the football (leads Packers quarterbacks in camp interceptions).
To be honest with you he just doesn't seem to have the confidence out there. He just seems nerves. I guess filling Rods shoe could put a little pressure on someone. :D

leads in camp interceptions against our d-backs? LOL

The only whiff in hindsight.

Yup and as some have alluded to, we all have to assume that TT just wasn't convinced of parting with Sitton until the day before he actually cut him with no trade partners available. I get that if that was truly the case. Had Sitton been traded for a 4th rounder before the draft and Taylor was a flop in preseason or got injured, there would have been a sh*t storm. So hanging on to him for as long as possible, as insurance, costing us any trade value, was probably a calculated risk, that in hindsight may look like a bad one, but makes sense during the process. It was probably on TT and the Packers radar in the offseason and throughout the preseason "if we get to the 53 cutdown with healthy guards and Taylor is playing like a starter, Sitton can be let go".

We could see the very same move this year with a player like Matthews or Cobb.......I doubt it, but I would have doubted the Sitton move one year ago today.

In all honesty, I'm not that worried about Brett Hundley. Yes, it would be nice if he was tearing it up, but besides his trade stock not going up, it really won't matter much, if #12 goes down for an extended time period, season over.

I am more excited about the potential starters and the news on them. Jones may be a welcomed addition and just what this defense needs. Taylor improving even more at Guard, is just awesome, especially with the loss of Lang. Vogel punting well!! Maybe the Packers finally found a punter! Williams at RB with Monty.....just what the running game needs.

Long way to go, but the news of Hundley, Janis, Fackrell, Waters and even Randall not looking that great in Practice hasn't ruined my day.
