He did say the right things in the interview. He said he made a split second decision and went with it. The decision to return it was not based on what happened on the sideline earlier. I still think what he did is moronic, but I really believe his reasoning behind what he did even though it was a giant mistake.

What else do you expect him to say? "Yeah, that's right, I was mad and decided to flip off my coaches and teammates and prove myself to them all"? I also heard that he said something about not being sure if he would be able to down it in the end zone. Really? Come on man! When you f*ck up, best to fess up in as few of words as possible and be humble and apologetic about it.

I bet he is cut Saturday, I wish somebody had an extra DL and wanted to trade for Ty.

Would you trade for Monty? What would you trade? If there was a trade market for him prior to Sunday, it probably has gone up in smoke.

I remember seeing this play and saying out loud....."Hell yes, we finally have a smart player back there returning kicks!" At this time, I would like to retract that statement.

that’s what is so bad about it. He is a smart guy... and yet he went and let his ego dictate his actions.

Few years ago vs Detroit in Detroit, MM cut a RB and benched LACEY. Why? They broke curfew..

Mm will bring a hammer if needed..

He also fined and benched Finely his rookie year for blasting Rodgers in the papers..

Not saying Ty will be cut or benched. But MM will disapline players if justified

I don't have the insider info as b4, but history shown that if Ty Disobeyed a coach, he will be
Dealt with...

Wut? Nobody expects a dumb move like that. There's no way anyone can evaluate impulse actions like this.
not until they happen.... but you sure don’t let them happen again.

“Misfit Toys”. Makes me LOL and cry at the same time. It’s truly a terrible group. If they could get something for HHCD now and move Williams to S it wouldn’t affect the S group’s production much. Might help. And with Alexander’s strong play, Williams could probably afford to make the move. HHCD’s INT numbers are inflated by being in the right place at the right time rather than by any playmaking on his part. I’d take a 2nd or even 3rd round pick for him. Maybe there’s a sucker out there who would give up a 1st but I doubt it.

The situation at cornerback might allow the Packers to move Williams to safety but he would definitely not be an adequate replacement for Clinton-Dix.

In my opinion it's hilarious that HHCD gets criticized for ending up in the right place at the right time

Right place at right time..

Could it be he developed a knack for that?

Wasn't it.Peanut Tillman that was at right place at right time? And a few others.

Dix maybe below avg S, but sometime players can develop the knack for ints for what ever reason.

You know what I find most disappointing in this whole thing? It's the behavior of some of the so-called fans.

It's disappointing to read that Montgomery and his family are now getting harassed because this. Death threats, family threats? Really? It's a game.

Did Montgomery make a mistake? Yes. But at the end of the day, it's just a game.

I could go on and on but I'll get off of my soapbox now.

No, it looked about like most of his other ones. I feel a little bad for him, as he's always been a good teammate and person in the community. He has a history of doing what is asked, working hard etc. So this whole thing of him throwing a tantrum and giving the coaches a proverbial finger doesn't make a ton of sense, but I watched him bring it out, and it was a bad decision the entire way.

That's part of what makes me mad about all of it. He's smarter than that. Maybe it was just a dumb mistake, but at the very least he should be inactive for a couple weeks. Maybe it was saying screw it, i'm a hero. Still inactive a couple weeks. If we weren't playing the Pats this week, an outright cut would be on the table. and if I could get a 6th or 7th rounder for him I would take it and be done with it. Whatever happens, if he's returning kicks again on Sunday i'm not going to be a happy man about it.

What if he ran that back for a touchdown while disobeying coaching orders? Then what am I supposed to think/feel?!

Obviously there wouldn't be any talk of cutting Montgomery now. That's the risk you take by not following instructions if something goes weong though.

That's not on Zook. Montgomery is a NFL veteran. His decision was selfish and costly. He should be cut or traded.

There's no other team interested in trading for Montgomery at this point.

Aaron Jones has good hands. Let him catch the ball.

Jones hasn't proven to have good hands so far with the Packers.

Why aren't MVS or St. Brown doing returns. That will give them action and I think both of them have the speed to actually do something on returns.

They have a combined experience of three kickoffs returned over their college and pro career. It seems none of them has the knack for doing the job.

Truth be told though, i'm not sure why montgomery was doing it either, as he never has looked that good and there is no game breaking speed.

Montgomery was pretty good returning kicks in college (27.4 average on 91 attempts, three touchdowns) as well as his rookie season with the Packers (31.1 on seven). It seems him adding weight to play running back took away his speed to be successful though.

Zook should also be held accountable...he's the one evaluating and fielding the ST's.

As I've pointed out all offseason the Packers would have been smart to add an adequate replacement for Davis to the roster. I wonder how those posters vehemently disagreeing with me at that point feel about it right now.

He "was" better, but last year and this, i'm serious when I say this, I think getting to the 20 from the goal line seems like a great accomplishment for him. he just looks like he's moving in slow motion and there is no extra gear to hit a hole.

It would be an absolute travesty to see him return another kick while wearing the green and gold.

Packers have never had a strong kick rerun game under McCarthy. Davis is ok but he’s not that great either. They need a little fast agile guy who is quick as a hiccup back there.

As for Tron Williams? Yea he’s not going to scare anyone, he’s back there as a security blanket.

Not without his union's blessing they can't. Maybe a team fine but I doubt even that. so no, he can't be fined unless he is suspended. I don't think the team can dock his pay if they do it unless it is buried somewhere in his contract.

Jeez, how do the punish them then ?? Even releasing him from his contract would cost the organisation ?

Agree. I think we all knew Davis shouldn't earn a spot on the roster just due to his return ability. I also wouldn't parade Davis around as a guy who made a lot of smart football decisions with punt returns, nor life decisions in Airports. Although, it wouldn't surprise me now, if Davis is healthy, to see him activated off the IR to assume the return duties for the rest of the year.

Even before Monty's gaffe on Sunday, he did not impress me whatsoever with returning kicks this year. Seems like the position of both punt and kickoff return guy were grossly overlooked this year. Maybe Gute will finally see the importance of having a quality return guy and go after one in Free Agency or the draft.

He's done that a total of 0 times in his NFL career, so I think people were probably holding their breath a lot more on the fumble possibility than the possibility of him actually housing one.

Maybe fans would be a little more forgiving if he was an elite kick returner. It's certainly not like we had the prime of Devin Hester back there.

The personal attacks on him are way too far, but his explanation that he wasn't sure he was in the endzone was completely bogus. Anyone can go back and see he was about 2-3 yards deep. If he actually wasn't aware of being in the endzone he doesn't belong anywhere on the field on any special teams play.

Do you honestly think Gute doesn't know what a return game can mean to a football team? IMO, if Cobb could stay healthy, he was perfectly fine to have as your return man. and kick returns, if anybody is keeping a roster spot just for a kick returner these days, they're stupid. If hester is back there, I just kick it thru the endzone every time. and NFL kickers can do it.
