MM was pathetic talking about this after the game. He said the plan was for him to take a knee if the ball was in the endzone....but then he goes and defends him by saying he is a guy making a decision to make a play? WTF is that? It is no wonder this team doesn't respect him anymore. Call the f-in guy out for costing you a shot at winning the game. Hell....tony brown is still on the team after trying to lose the team a game 2 weeks in a row.

This is one thing I actually do take issue with MM on. He's not tough enough on problem players.

I miss Mike Holmgren in this respect because he tolerated no BS. If you f-ed up period on his roster the way Mark Ingram (not the Saints RB) or TJ Rubley did, you got kicked outta here. No nonsense allowed whatsoever.

Mike McCarthy is just a little too soft in that regard.

Not to make excuses, but he was only a yard in the end zone. Kick returners start their run up further back in the end zone. When he chose to field the kick he was moving forward towards the goal line while looking at the ball and with rams bearing down on him. Catching the ball, he wouldn’t have known if he had crossed the goal line. Maybe thinking he had, he chose to take off and make the best of it. Most all kicks these days either fly past the end zone or land very deep. Things happen in less than a second. If anything it was a perfectly placed kick that caused the poor decision and perfect storm to the fumble. Man had no choice but to run or risk pinning them down along the goal line... and we all saw how well that scenario ended earlier. A special teams coaches business is to know all the little things. Shoulda told Monty to stand right on the goal line. Ball goes over or past you... let it go.... ball lands and dribbles in front... go get it. Pretty sure this was a coaching instruction breakdown.

Quit making excuses for this garbage dump. He's a pro football player and should know better. He's sucking up millions of dollars to do this and if he's too stupid to know where he is in the end zone, then he should ****.

Ok. You got me. So... lookup and start running across the room. Count how many times you reached out for the wall, or if you crashed through. You willing to call him a garbage dump in person?

Of course I would and if I was the coach, I'd kick his butt right off the team right now the same way Holmgren did to bad players.

Ty Montgomery has 3 fumbles this season (incl. preseason), he had 1 last year, 2 in 2016, and 1 in 2015. Dude just cannot hold onto the football.

How come there are people so hell bent on assuring a coach tell Monty to take a knee? This is common sense. Do coaches really need to tell a Stanford grad that is also a professional football player to take a knee if the ball is kicked in the end zone?
I went to a state college, have never stepped on a football field in my life and the second the rams kicked the ball in the end zone and Ty started taking the ball out I was yelling at the TV asking WTF he was doing because Rodgers gets a free time out. If he didn’t fumble the ball, that is still a horrible decision by Ty. My 13 year old nephew that plays peewee football texted me after the play and said “Auntie, what on earth was that man thinking.”
So honestly for me, I could not care if a coach specifically told him to take a knee or not. The game plan was very obvious regardless of how you try and spin it.

Zook needs to be gone first Special teams have been playing like special needs Too many stupid penalties, putting offense in long situations, and now costing games. Zook definitely should be fired tonight.
Special teams played a pretty darn good game yesterday except for a bad punt and the Montgomery debacle.
Neither incident should land on Zooks plate.

It seems Montgomery was told to take a knee if the ball ends up in the end zone. If that's true the Packers should release hin immediately. There's no place for players who don't contribute a whole lot ignoring instructions for a chance to make a play.

Is this the stock reaction with Packer fans, one bad day or mistake and get ( Insert name here....) *** out of here, the bum.....????. HE MADE A MISTAKE !!!! We were given no chance against the 7-0 Rams and we came within a sniff of beating them last night. I'll bet he feels like **** today without our ten cents worth.

I don't mind players making a mistake. As an example if Montgomery would have had to return the ball because the kick was short of the end zone and fumbled it there's no reason to consider releasing him.

It's a whole different story not being able to abide by instructions from the coaching staff though.

And do we know for certain that's what he was told ?? I sold my torch and pitchfork on e-bay sorry.

McCarthy was pretty clear in his press conference that Montgomer was told not to return the ball out of the end zone.
Then I apologise, but I still think there is a gross overeaction on here over this.

So with today’s loss do we become “sellers” at the trade deadline to stockpile some draft picks?

The Packers are a half game behind the division leading Bears. There's no reason to be sellers at the trade deadline.

I don’t think so. But I can’t see how the GB secondary would be worse without HHCD. He’s become “just a guy”.

Trust me, you would figure it out pretty fast if the Packers trade him.

So who's on your "sell" list after today?

Here's mine (independent of any likelihood or real chance, just who is expendable and appealing to other teams)

- Clay
-Perry
- 1 of the TEs, preferrably graham
- Clinton Dix
- Tramon
-Dare I say it... Cobb
- kiser
-Bulaga

The Packers trading Perry or Graham would result in an additional cap hit.

It's about holding players accountable. If they're allowed to ignore instructions by the coaches without any consequences McCarthy will lose this team in a heartbeat and the Packers are done for this season.

a few weeks ago, I was not on board with the "cut Mason" crowd at all. He had a bad day, one a lot of other kickers won't survive, but he's by and large nothing but a pro. In the community, on the field, in the locker room etc. It would have been different had he gone out and decided we were going to do an onside kick when the coach told him to kick it thru the endzone. 88 called his own play and it cost us. Maybe we go 0-4 and Rodgers gets sacked 4 times if we start at the 25. I liked our chances though with 2+ minutes and a timeout plus the 2 minute stoppage. 88 decided we don't get that chance.

He's always, always had ball security issues. Still does. Seems like a good guy, but you can not make that mistake and call your own plays.

You HAVE to understand the situation. There are NO justifications for that blunder. That was a selfish play by Montgomery. It’s doesnt matter if he thougt he could make a play..he was DIRECTED NOT to bring the ball out. He should feel bad. No sympathy for a guy who put himself above the team ultimately costing us a game we probably would’ve won.

How are people still defending Ty? I've always liked the guy as well, but that was just unbelievable. Our return game has always been less than mediocre. IT WASNT GOING TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. We had more than 2 minutes to get about 50 yards from the 25 for a sure fire FG. Aarod and Mason would have get it done!!! Ty should be cut immediately. He has been subpar in every aspect of the game.

The difference with the Crosby situation is that that one was just extremely unfortunate incompetence, yet Ty was being a selfish unprofessional ****.

Rapoport says that HaHa Clinton-Dix is available via trade prior to the deadline.

Also, Trevor Davis is garnering interest around the league.
"The Packers safety is entering a contract year and the team has a lot of depth at the position, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer."

It just goes to show you cannot believe everything you read.

It's possible the Packer brain trust has concluded this is not a championship roster or that Williams can make the transition without losing mcu, but it won't be because of "depth at the position" which is an island of misfit toys.

Weren’t they supposed to cut Crosby a couple of weeks ago?

There wasn’t an overreaction then so I doubt there’s one coming now.
He directly contradicted specific orders from the coaching staff. It isn’t the fumble, or in Crosby’s case missed kicks, it’s that you made a mockery of your coaching staffs instructions.

Exactly, if the coaches came out and said, we told him we had "X return" on, hit the crease and try and bust a big one and he fumbled, that's one thing. I still think he has ball security issues, but regardless, a fumble in that situation is one thing. Being told to stay in the endzone and deciding you don't want to is another.

I would also say good kickers are hard to come by. Crosby did bad, but at this point in his career he's kicked enough game winners that he earned some slack to try and fix his issues. Plus there's likely no kicker out there that'd be an upgrade over him, and as we saw with Justin Tucker's missed extra point, kicking in general is just down this year. And at least he's not injured like Matt Bryant in Atlanta.

Montgomery on the other hand has

1. Been an injury liability to this team. He almost never can stay healthy missing more than half of the first 2 of 3 seasons he's been here from his lazy conditioning and wasting our investment in him.

2. It was pretty much a given the way Jones and Williams had come on last season that he was going to have to be a big time playmaker in the backfield to stay. He has not done this.

3. I had considered moving him back to WR earlier in the year before the draft because we had just lost Jordy, Cobb had been struggling and behind GMO and Adams we didn't know what we were going to get. But clearly MVS and ESB have proven they're our guys and as such, dumpster Monty has no place in that capacity either.

All that to say the kick return fumble is not the sole reason we want him gone. It's just the final nail in the coffin and the burning of any good will he had left to bring value to this team. He has failed on all counts.
