Sounds like the Packers might release LS Matt Orzech due to an injury. They must feel like nobody will grab him, because the plan would be to reclaim him and then put him on IR. A round about way to keep a roster spot for another player, while getting Orzech to the IR after cutdowns, so that he can still play this season. Which would mean that Broughton Hatcher would make the 53 instead. Bit of a risky move, but can't cut Hatcher and go into Chicago without a healthy LS.

Edit: Now I am reading that Orzech isn't hurt? If they cut both Orzech and Hatcher, expecting to bring back Orzech on Wed., they must be pretty damn confident that neither him or Hatcher get claimed. LS....the AMC Pacer of the NFL.

For the record I have intel that we may actually not have a LS on the 53 - due to then playing the IR with designation to return game later used which would then mean we circle back to bringing a LS into our 53.

I'd envision Tenuta and Wicks and Goodson and/or Stokes may be candidates for this...Stokes not sure due to PUP and such (not as knowledge on the rule details like some).

The more I noodle on this, the more I like it.

The Packers must be very confident that one or both of Orzech and Hatcher won't be grabbed by anyone and as you say, frees up a spot on the roster to keep a player, one that will go to on IR, without exposing them to the waiver wire.

We won't talk about some of my failures, but last couple years I've gotten quite lucky with guys I really like on Day 3 doing well...led by Tom, Enagbare, Doubs, (I had him end Day 2 though) and now Heath and Valentine.....someday it will be famine again I'm sure LOL

My 1 and only prediction of the "bubble" guys and an UDFA as well, Brenton Cox will be on the 53.

But yeah, I think Valentine and Heath are locks. I would also say that Heath is at the top of the list of "How to make an NFL team as an UDFA". Hard work and of course talent but this guy might be the biggest story this year of the UDFA's that the Packers signed....besides Cox of course ;)

Oh Cox is a guy with clear 3rd-5th round talent, and isn't a true "UDFA" in the sense of it typically. He was a dude I didn't want till the 6th and didn't really focus on much as attitude is a flag for me...but once we got him I've never really not penciled him in - I'm quite confident he is on it.
