I'll say you bring an interesting perspective. Cut Preston Smith and let Rodgers walk in Free Agency to keep Favre.

You still haven't answered this:
Because I don't know where you get the 18M from. I can't find it anywhere. Once it makes sense then I can answer it.

Not knowing that, kind of tells me why you made the statement. ;)

At the time of this signing many lauded the Packers for getting such a deal inked with Preston Smith - it lowered our massive cap issue, stopped us from having to pay him over $19M in that season....and keeps his yearly cap hit actually under that for the entire life of the current contract. While his 2022 season didn't grade out as well as his 2021 (was a top 15 PFF Edge defender which includes some DEs and OLB), Preston still delivered excellent consistency at a spot we lost Gary and had a flurry of people trying to replace Gary. Gary has been a rock solid starter for us barely missing games having started all but 5 since coming to Green Bay and truthfully his whole career he barely misses time. In all likelihood Preston will remain in Green Bay as long as he is the clear OLB#2 opposite of Gary. Of course once that begins to shift, his contract is VERY GB friendly to part ways with after this year, and insanely easy beyond next.

The Packers just released Pat O'Donnell. Probably a good move.

I still like Eric Wilson. He’s been good on ST and he’s very reminiscent of that worker bee LB (similar to how Blake was). He’s also had starting experience. I hope we keep him

Yeah. If I have it correct he’s had an average payout/cash payments of just over $12Mil annually across a stretch of seasons. He’s very reasonable for what I’d label an “above average” veteran OLB.
Preston also averaged 18.5% TFL across 4 seasons in GB which is between above average and teetering on “very good” level.

Preston is averaging in GB annual
8.5 Sacks
18 QB hits

Preston is consistent and that carries
across his 6 Postseason appearances

22 tackles
2 TFL
7 QB hits
3 sacks
2 PD

It will be interesting to see where Preston ends up with Rashan coming back and taking the spotlight. Both Smith and Enagbare could benefit from focus being put on Rashan.

Wilson isn't making the 53 man roster. He's likely headed to the practice squad. It wouldn't surprise me if they only kept two RBs on the 53 like they did last year. If Jones isn't getting the carry then Dillon is. Taylor has locked down the 3rd position if they keep 3.

I feel the same way. Much like a 3rd QB, this one doesn't concern me at all. Keep 2 QB's and 2 RB's, save the other 2 roster spots for guys like Brenton Cox, Leavitt or J. Ford.

I'm very split on Wilson and Tariq...one is making it, the other isn't IMO.

I'm surprised. Granted, I didn't see much of the punting in the preseason. But I thought O'Donnell did well last season. Is the other punter that good?

The upside to the other one is he can be your kicker too much more than O'Donnel...I am surprised too myself

He has a very big leg. Did well in preseason and in the minor leagues. Hopefully the future punter.

Eric Wilson -- LB. Emmanuel Wilson -- RB. I believe the poster mentioned LB.

Oh yeah thank you. Those 2 get me confused also. We’ve got 2 E. Wilson’s

You’re right I was talking Eric the LB
not Emmanuel the RB. I agree the RB Wilson should go PS, he’d be a good one to develop for 1 year or as an emergency RB. Great initial showcasing his ability. That boy has some wheels for 229lb guy.

Touché you old bastard

I tried removing my a tooth with an old Hockey skate and cannon ball like Tom in that movie but then I realized I’ve got dental insurance with a $20 copay. What was I thinking!

Same thing when folks say Ford….little do people seem to realize Rudy is not the safety’s first name…it’s the same as the DL Ford as well.

I swear I reversed those 2 also

Why do they call him Rudy?
After that movie?

Its a brilliant move by Gutey. It’s a good thing we have 2 of Jonathan Ford in case one gets injured :coffee:

Can't be a fun job for Gute to be giving them all the boot today.
