I can't imagine this is true. No way did I expect this guy to make it. Taylor is more experienced and ran really hard.
Taylor to many, myself included, has hit his ceiling - very good ST guy, but I don't want him running our backfield unless emergency. While Wilson is much rawer to the playbook and ST, his upside on run diagnosis appears lightyears better than Taylor IMO - but who knows perhaps we run four deep at RB for the first time I can remember on the 53...

Thank you.
One thought I had concerning E. Wilson. He would be an injury contingency or plan B if Dillon is gone next season. He’s near 230lb and could become a cheaper option at Short yardage if Dillon wants too much $$ (that works both ways and allows us to be more frugal on offering a contract to Dillon).

I loved the way Emmanuel showed up. He’s got better big play ability than Taylor. Taylor was kinda average, Wilson I’d say is kinda good. I don’t know him personally but he’s my clearly brother in Christ, so he’s already on my support network. He’s 1 of about 3 or 4 “outside shot” guys of making the 53 through stellar performance. This game is all about who is hungry. I’m happy for him he really did earn it, he’s fun to watch.

Between he and Lew who I would be shocked we didn't bring back on PS have that beefy back covered. Gotta think this is the end of Taylor in GB...but who knows RBs are a dime a dozen and he may want to stay here on PS because you know if Jones or Dillon go down with Goodson out and Wilson a rookie he would probably see action.

Congrats to Malik! Heath just sticks out to me as another guy who 100% deserved his chance. He reminds me of a young Geronimo, but a little thicker. He’s a consistent young player, but just came out of nowhere like Geronimo Allison did for us some years back.

Brenton Cox Jr Preseason
1 TFL
1 QB hit
2 PD

Most of these guys play about a full game worth of Preseason +- This is a guy that stands out as aggressive. He’ll need better Lane integrity as he let the QB run for an easy score in his assignment. However that’s fixable. I have him a hair behind Karl Brooks as an overall producer. I think he’s a sliver and a 1/2 better than Hollins, we shall see.

5 surprises for me, mostly on offense...mostly guys who I thought did more than enough to get cut, and 1 of the 5 a guy I thought who's price was bigger than his abilities...as well him being the old dog in the room.

Be i
I still like Eric Wilson. He’s been good on ST and he’s very reminiscent of that worker bee LB (similar to how Blake was). He’s also had starting experience. I hope we keep him
Be interesting to see how the average age of this 53 compares to those of the last decade. They might use more Clearasil.

You're telling me you would have cut Bakh and Preston if you were in charge....alrighty then...

The surprises were as follows:

Deguara - Even with depth an issue I thought he'd done enough to get himself cut.

Nijman - I figured with the rise of Walker and Nijman's demotion that he would be gone...maybe as the last or 2nd to last cut, but yes, cut.

Newman - I went into training camp thinking there was no way this guy made the team without a break out performance in camp, which at least in pre-season I didn't see.

Preston Smith - Given his age, given that he is the off-side/coverage EDGE and not the pass rusher, given the contract, and given the talent at the position I figured he would be cut.

Toure - With a not great rookie season and the depth at the position in pre-season I figured he was odd man out.

Owens - From what I was hearing and seeing online he did about enough NOT to make the team, and this was a guy I had hoped would knock Savage out of the lineup.

oh and tyni, I might be looking at Bakhtiari NEXT year

I know I have been talking this guy up ever since the Packers signed him as an UDFA, but he showed more on the field than LVN did. Obviously, you have to look at who both were playing against, but on that note, you also need to look at the fact that LNV had better teammates playing around him.

I looked back on Gary's rookie season and actually, Cox and him looked a bit the same. A bit raw and unpolished, but a player with the physical tools and football talent to become a good player. I think the biggest bonus of the preseason for Cox, no reported incidents or issues of his behavior's after the whistle blew or after he left the field.

Yup. I did not think he would make the roster and still have doubts about him. Not sure he will have a career, hope he has turned a leaf and doesn't miss this opportunity. Clips of him just standing there, not running a route and not blocking in college made me think he didnt have the proper attitude. So far he has done everything right and reports are he has been a very willing blocker.

If Cox can stay out of trouble, he could be a steal. If not, it's kind of what we expect. But, it's worth a try. There's talent in that kid.

Totally worth it and then some. How many 2023 UDFA's are even on teams right now? How many of them will have much of an impact, if any? He made the 53 and if he gets out there and contributes, it is all gravy from here on out.

Had to do a little research B4 I post this. This was actually shocking to read. It is from 2019, but guessing the stats haven't variated a ton. 30 of NFL rosters being made up of UDFA's? If it is correct, way higher than I would have guessed.

I wore about where Cox is playing. At his size he should be ILB in a 3-4, or OLB in a 4-3 not 3-4 OLB

You have to remember though there are TONS more UDFA added to camps than draft picks...usually double at each team. Lot of back end of rosters are made up of these guys.
