Adam Schefter reporting that Thielen will be active in the Vikes-Chargers game. Given the nature of the injury, he will undoubtedly be used as a decoy while regaining familiarity with the routines. A good deal of his playing time might be dependant on how well Kyle Rudolph plays. Notably, Rudolph has saved their collective ***** twice with those critical catches.
But you can just bet that Thielen will be out on the field when we we come to town. Three top receivers and a stellar running back will be a lot to put on the plate for our defense. The game may come down to whose defense is on the field the longest in a game putting two great running backs against each other. What do you guys think?

I think the Packers/Vikings game thread will be created next Monday, at which time we will discuss in great detail. :whistling:

You mean how many will unrealistically paint the world as falling apart after we play autrocious against the Bears (whether we win or lose by 1, 10 or 100) and proceed to share how compared to the Vikings we are a middle school B team at best?

Yup next week let the fun begin! ;):roflmao:

I honestly don't think that Thielen will be himself or able to play for at least a month. I thought that they were going to shut him down for the season.

The Vikings can run the ball well even without Calvin Cook but maybe not all over the field. Theilen is fortunate these last 3 games are in ideal climates. If he was going to Lambeau at 15 degrees it would be risky.

The Packers were able to hold the Vikings to 16 points at Lambeau with Diggs, Thielen and Rudolph combining to play all but eight snaps in the game. They can repeat that feat if the defense performs up to potential next week.

The guy on pace for like 45 for 400 at around 9 yards per reception?

Rudolph's been good, his targets have gone up with Thielen out. He will be a guy who needs to be covered by more than a linebacker in the red zone. With Thielen back (presumably healthy) he probably won't do as much otherwise.

Kyle Rudolph is a below average receiving TE whose numbers have gone up in recent weeks due to necessity. He's a good all-around player in that he can block while also offering some help in a passing game, but he isn't a top option purely as a pass catcher. Now that said, even a below average receiving TE is more than capable of burning Blake Martinez.

For what it's worth, these were their 40 yard dash times:

Martinez: 4.71

Rudolph: 4.78

This year most Tight Ends have hurt us since Raven Greene went out. And that ironically was in the Viking game.

I'm not convinced Greene would have significantly improved the Packers ability to cover tight ends though.

No but he was one more to let loose out there and his injury happened from a TE block.

The Packers have enough bodies but not sufficient talent to cover opposing tight ends. I have no idea what Greene sufferibg his injury on a TE block has to do with his ability in covering them.

I’d bet Rudolph’s career numbers against the Packers look better than average.

It doesn't. It is just ironic. But the fact that he was on top of the TE helped us stop the play.

In 16 career games against the Packers Rudolph has a total of 59 receptions for 638 yards and three touchdowns.

Unfortunately the Packers don't have enough bodies for players to suffer a season ending injury every time they stop a tight end though ;)

Speaking of Raven Greene:

#Packers safety Raven Greene, on injured reserve since getting hurt in Week 2 against the #Vikings is also working on the side. He’s been out of the boot for a few weeks but this is the first time we’ve seen him with the rest of the squad.

Guessing he won't be playing in the next 2 games, but might be ready for the playoffs?

first news i've heard of him since it happened. He's one of those that was doing things that showed he might be more than everyone thought coming out of college and right when he's at that point of proving he is, or just a tease like many others, injury.

I doubt he plays this year if he is just out of a boot now? but heck, even if he could be activated by super bowl time just for some special teams snaps :)

I’d be more concerned with Diggs. Theilen has 1 100+ game all year but Diggs has 5 of them. Theilen or Cook are not 100% yet.
Also our ability to mitigate opponent passing yardage across the middle of the field is concerning. So the TE could be a factor this Monday night in MN converting 3rd downs.
