He's not old. Most TEs of his caliber play at a high level well into their mid-thirties. He should have 4-6 good years left in him.

He's 34, I'd be surprised if he's even on an NFL roster in four years, let alone play at a high level until his age 40 season. That said, the Packers need a veteran blocker now and Lewis should still be good enough for another year or two.

The Packers could most likely sign Lewis to a deal close to the veteran minimum. The cap wouldn't prevent the team signing him.

I think he's going to be a bit more expensive but yeah, he'd easily fit under the cap regardless.

Graham is 31, not 34.

The little we got to see of Kendricks last season was underwhelming for me. I was hoping for more athleticism and a little more speed in his routes. I will go with whatever Gute decides. Would like to be able to block for Jones though.

that's a good bet. tony gonzalez played until he was 37, witten is 36. they're they exception. two more from him, depending on how his health is at the end of the year, is about tops for him. same probably goes for graham too.

Lewis is a drastically better blocker than anyone currently on the roster. He would be fun to pair with Graham in the RZ. Having him in line while JG is in the slot would be difficult to stop or prepare for, as it would provide a couple absolutely massive receiving targets while also being a viable running formation.

DA.........RC.........DB..LT..CL..JM..BB..ML..............................JG

..........................................AR...JW

That would be an ideal 12 personnel redzone formation.
You draft all these really tall WRs and in the red zone you advocate for Cobb?

Would I like Lewis? Sure, but it seems like #2 or #3 blocking TE would be low on the priority list right now. Hoping to hear word on Kendrick soon.

Lewis might improve the offense, but personally, I would rather be hearing about guys on the defensive side of the ball being brought in. Matthews confirmed what most of us thought, despite the hope that Biegel and Gilbert will improve, the OLB position needs some help. Granted, the pickings are thin, with maybe Connor Barwin or Junior Galette (considering retirement) being the best option. I also wouldn't mind seeing S position beefed up with someone like Reid, Vaccaro or Boston. Do we really think Ha Ha, Jones and Brice are enough?

I think it deserves to be pretty high on the priority list right now, as it's a fairly good sized role in the offense with essentially no one to adequately fill it.

i don't see why they can't do both. lewis is better, more versatile, than all our other backup te's combined, and kendricks is better than either ryan or martinez. neither one should be very expensive and the team is better at two more positions. not that they'd have to but cap room could be made available.

I'd like Lewis, Kendrick, and another Olineman (Evans returns?). Then I'd be happy to call it an off season.

I think he is referring to Marcedes, who is 34. If it helps, he just turned 34 last week.
Yes, but he responded to me and I was referring to Graham. It's pretty clear if you trace back the replies. Someone said we already had a tall, old guy and I asked who. They said "Graham." I said he isn't old and should have 4 or 5 good years left. Then someone replied to me that he was 34. I know what he meant, but I wasn't the one who lost the flow of the conversation, so I corrected him in case anyone who was following closely mistakenly got the impression that Graham was 34.

Unless he received a lot of guarenteed cash , I don't see a lot of down side with this move. In fact, with the weakness on the right side of the o line, this move could be critical to the ability to run the ball this season.

what difference does that make? probably two years and next year there's a lot of cap room. if they couldn't handle it it wouldn't have happened. you know how they are.

The thing for me is yeah, Lewis is a terrific blocking TE, but maybe he's not bad as a receiver either. Consider that although he only caught 24 passes last season, they went for about 13 YPC and 5 TD's. Add to that the Jags were a predominately running team and their QB is Bortles. I'm giving this signing two thumbs up.

He’s old for the role he plays. Most other guys who played well as an older player were also much more versatile than graham.
