Per Rapsheet, Melvin is signing in Oakland. So either Fuller better work or they better have a back up plan.

Actually, I thought any offer was it, shop closed. Unless that's only for tags with pick compensation?
Just read an interesting tweet. If the Packers are able to go after Fuller, there's a good chance Rodgers contract is done.
You mean done as in they have it all figured out already? or Done as in they aren't working on one? I don't think means either. They could easily have 2 options with contracts, pay as you go type extension, or lower cap now, pay fuller, and increase Rodgers later with bigger spread out bonus. It may dictate some terms with Rodgers, but I don't think it would mean it's off the table if that's what you were getting at.

I think.....he meant done as in ready to sign. Freeing up enough money to sign Fuller and still have some bank left.

If- and this is just speculation on the part of whoever tweeted it- it would make sense in that Rodgers 1st year could drop say $7 or 8 M off his cap number this year.

I might as well turn off my computer, Free Agency is done for the Packers for the next 5 days, the Bears front office might just be smiling and saying "Nice try Gute, now go sit in your corner for 5 days."

but I'd rather take a chance at Fuller, though I expect him to still be a Bear, than not take a chance because i was that worried about missing out on what is left.

1 year prove it deal, vet minimum with incentives...Yeah baby.

Sounds like the Ravens have Crabtree in a Baltimore Hotel, while they negotiate with his agent.

Edit: Done deal. Crabtree signed a 3 year $21M deal with the Ravens.

Yeah, we are so damn loaded already at CB, if we lose Fuller, no worries.

I mean I get it, it's a calculated risk to land a solid CB, aq CB that is better than the ones remaining in Free Agence, but just who will we lose out on in the 5 day waiting period?

who are you that worried you'll miss out on? All I see are guys who's talent level is about what will be eclipsed by what is in the draft, or who will be available in cut downs

Guessing the Packers agree with you or they wouldn't have pulled this move. But I still see guys like Gaines, Breeland, Cockrell and even House that would start at CB in Green Bay. I'm tired of rolling the dice on rookie CB's.

They could also be planning on signing a 2nd CB and have enough, even with the Fuller deal, so maybe all is not lost. :)

House has never been more than a part time player for us. It's part of why he didn't get a contract before leaving here after his first stint and why he wasn't that effective for us last year either. Sure sign him, but cheap and don't rely on a guy like that. and he's not all that different than other guys that will be still available anyway and this time he doesn't have the benefit of familiarity because of the new DC coming in. Breeland would have been cool, but I think things may be cool on him right now too depending on the severity of his foot infection. I don't think we're going to be just left with rookie DB's

You know, they're not precluded from submitting other offer sheets. That, and /or a possible trade for a vet around draft time. I have a feeling this guy has a long list of options and backup plans.

Just depends how much of our cap room this deal took up.

But you are correct. A good reminder that as much as we try, the guys that deal with the cap are actual professionals. Pretty much, if we really want to sign somebody, they'll find a way to do it.

so...now that the fuller deal is over Packers can get back to work on some other guy. glad the bears didn't hang the Packers out to dry by waiting 5 days while some of the others were being signed.

Again, if they still had cap room after Fuller's offer, they'd be free to pursue/sign someone else.

Thank god they missed out on him. Use this money to sign the Honey Badger! Great character, way more versatile/experienced and just as young.

I'm not sure I like the 5 day thing. Give them 48 hours to decide and be done with it.
