I'd rather take a chance on Scott McCloughan then settling for Ball. I've heard McCloughan is doing well but maybe not enough time. I really hope the guy can continue to turn it around as he has been regarded by many as a football genius and more then capable of building a quality NFL roster.
McCloughan is a gem for finding talent. It seems his personal demons is what gives him issue. I don't think Green Bay would consider him for GM...but could be the talent advisor that they need.

Going from Thompson to McCloughan would be a huge upgrade overall IMO. Sarkisian had similar issues and is holding it down. I know that doesn't mean McCloughan will but he is worth checking out for sure.

It needs to play out but this whole thing looks like it could be a big "smoke and mirrors" show. If it is I'm done. Not gonna get played like a fiddle.

I heard Pat Kirwan in NFL Radio yesterday saying if he were a potential GM interviewing for the job one of the first questions he would ask is,”Would I have to answer to Ted or was he there to do as he does best and give scouting input?” I hope with them hiring this independent firm they are truly looking for the best replacement for the team.
According to Murphys presser the new Gm would have the ultimate say and Ted would not be involved in the interview process.

Anytime there is a change such as this there are always a lot of things that come out of the woodwork.

If Murphy is the man he is supposed to be he will take the time to make the right decisions with the right people that will set the Pack up for the next decade.

If he does not we will waste QB1 and say hello to the 80's all over again.

I am concerned but cautiously optimistic.

If it goes that way I see Rodgers POSSIBLY moving on. Sooner rather than later.

Go Pack Go.

I can`t remember the original thread or the member who said he regularly writes to Mark Murphy ? but he admitted in that press conference he never reads stuff anyway. I wasn`t impressed with him at all. Who does he answer to in the scheme of things ?

I guess there is 47 board members Murphy answers too if I'm correct. Still, try to get 47 people to agree on the same thing. I am not impressed with Murphy either. He came across as hesitant and not confident. Almost like he couldn't look people in the eye. No telling but it feels like they are trying to cook something up and give an appearance of major change but conjure up a way to have the same main parts in power. I hope my suspicions are wrong.

It's also weird that Thompson is still the "acting GM" but he hasn't even come out and faced the media once as all this goes down. I understand he doesn't like the media but to not publicly talk once with all this "major change" is a little weird if you ask me.

I wouldn't want anyone associated with the Redskins - they have been irrelevant for 30 years.

I never forgave my guy, Ron Wolf, for pushing Mike Sherman in a dual role on his way out the door.

...and I very much admire Ron Wolf. I bought his book for gawd's sake...
Was Wolf’s book insightful and interesting?

That’s interesting. Ted Thompson replied to the one letter I sent him. Within a week too.

Sorry mate, I`m just stating what the man said himself in the conference. I didn`t intend any offence.

That glorified pencil pusher is one of the best negotiators in football, a former player, a former strength coach, and his brother is a scout for the Chiefs. At first glance, I wasn't thrilled about him getting a shot, but the more I read and learn, I actually don't mind.

He's entirely committed to his job, he's been good at everything he's done, everybody he's worked with seems to love him, and he really, really wants to win. If he can manage to hire good scouts, and trust them, we'll be fine.

Yeah well some people say he was the key cog in drafting and building the Seahawks dream team of 2013. He was also hired by Ron Wolf and was with the Niners during there rebuild too.

In 2010 Shortly after leaving the 49ers, McCloughan was hired by Seattle Seahawks general manager and close friend, John Schneider, to be a senior personnel executive on the team. McCloughan accepted, and later assisted with the team's drafting of notable players in later rounds of the draft such as Russell Wilson, Kam Chancellor, and Richard Sherman.McCloughan remained in this position until April 2014 -Wikipedia

Funny thing is Seahawks drafting in 2014 started to go south after he left,

If this guy is sober he might be the best in the bizz. I don't want Russ"Ball Buster" and Ted Thompson still drafting. I want some "real change"

You know Scott thinks that TT is excellent at drafting, right? And obviously, he knows a thing or two about who's good and who's not. ;)

With that said, I'd love Scott to come work here. He's great at scouting. Great at finding talent.

For the last time I've always said TT is a great evaluator of talent but he is 64 years old and doesn't know how to use free agency. The game has passed TT by. Russ Ball doesn't either. Nothing changes if these two guys stay in place.

I don't see why they would need to go through all the trouble of putting on a smoke and mirrors show. I know we failed to make the playoffs for the first time in 9 years. But they could have easily not made any changes at all and just used Rodgers' injury as the excuse. We all would have grudgingly accepted that. I think them extending MM only for one year speaks volumes.

You just said that TT is a great evaluator of talent. If he was still drafting, why would that be bad? Not talking free agency here, just drafting.

In regards to Ball, we don't know if he's good or bad when it comes to evaluating talent. He's not my first candidate, but he's not a bad one either.

I also mentioned that he is 64 and while the desire may still be there for him, it seems there has been a disconnect of some sort. I don't think his drafting has been all that great the last several years. Nothing that gives him a "Gold Star" or to write home to mom about. That's for sure. I believe a change is in order and putting a $ guy in who is not a football guy makes no sense with Thompson as an advisor unless your goal is to fool the masses that big changes have been made when really not much has changed at all.

Why would they go through the trouble? Hmmm, maybe because they don't want to lose any "Gate" in regards to there financial empire they have built. A lot of fans are disgruntled with the way things are going and are ready to say the hell with it if they don't change some of there ways or at least give the appearance of that.

That's why.

Ball may be a great roster constructor and cap manager. But if he’s the choice, Murphy better have one heck of a plan for the personnel department.

One thing about it— they might not stand a huge risk of losing Wolf any time real soon even if they pass him over. He’s only 35. The youngest GM in the game, if I have my facts straight, is Howie Roseman at 42.

If Murphy puts Ball in there and loses Wolf and Gutekunst he should be let go iimmediately. End of story.

You know what is funny? Many of the posters claiming Ball doesn't have the knowledge necessary to evaluate football talent, have far less knowledge to evaluate GM talent.

uummmm, yesssss

Not sure if you trying to prove my point. They have no chance to be considered because they have a limited understanding of football. Therefore how would they know anything about being a GM or the qualifications/capabilities of any of the candidates?
