"Murphy said the Packers will use Jed Hughes of the consulting firm Korn Ferry to assist with the search. It’s the same firm that brought Murphy to the Packers as president in 2007."

- Demovsky

If you ask me, something about that stinks....
It’s interesting to note that Hughes’ group at Korn Ferry is also consulting for Houston in their search. And didn’t I read that Gutekunst is interviewing with Houston? That’s some tricky business unless Murphy has already ruled out G.

Outside politics and greed if you ask me. They've got enough of that within the League without adding to it.

From what I can gather, Hughes’ unit at KF is prominent in sports management search. I don’t necessarily see a problem with their prior relationship with Murphy. I might have a problem with them working for multiple teams competing for the same talent.

As to the general topic, titles matter less than responsibilities and organizational structure.

While Ball might get a GM title, he’s a numbers guy and not a true football guy. That appointment would suggest somebody else would be the chief talent evaluator. I would not endorse such an arrangement.

The Packers do not have a lot of cap to work with. Some close examination and hard decisions need to made with respect to Nelson, Bulaga, Cobb and Matthews, pro or con. The coaching and front office shake ups are indicative of this off season not being business as usual. I believe a talent evaluator needs to be in drivers seat for this difficult transition.

Buluga ( injuries), Cobb, and Matthews need to be gone yesterday. They aren't productive enough to warrant their cap hits.

A WR needs to be drafted to go along with Adams.

If I'm the new GM, MM gets an ultimatum: Either you get to a SB next season, or your out. Sound harsh? It should be. Rodgers prime has been wasted enough.

Listening to Brandt on NFL Radio this morning he said that he believes that Packers promote from within. Brandt said that is the way Packers like to do business. He also thinks it will be business as usual if they do.

I only envision it as business as usual if Ball gets the job. He, like Thompson, gives off the vibe of "things will work out eventually even if our coaches and players suck". In other words, being loyal to a fault. I don't envision Gutekunst or especially Wolf staying that course if results don't drastically improve next season.

If they just want business as usual, why do the shakeup in the first place?
The reason these moves are so popular is because it suggests that the Packers see that there is a problem.

Apparently the GM shakeup was primarily due to concerns with Thompson's health. Keeping him in the organization suggests the front office feels his vision is the right vision for this team.

That's my issue with this organization. They seem petrified of putting someone who doesn't have decades of experience into any role. The Capers experiment should show that experience is meaningless if the status quo is perpetuated. Stubbornness, egoism, and apathy are commonplace for so-called experienced individuals and it holds a team back. Fresh blood that is motivated and creative is what creates and sustains success in businesses, especially ones as complex as NFL teams.

It's a difference of 5 years, Gutekunst is one of two wunderkinds. Perhaps he seems a bit more grounded?

So are we really going to go with Ball? I'd hate to lose Brian and Eliot after promoting them and blocking them from other GM jobs. It just doesn't make sense. We'd also lose a lot of our scouting talent if they left. I want to believe we're doing our due diligence, but in the end we'll go with Brian or Eliot and Russ will head up the financial portion.

I am. The use of the term in conversational English conjures up visions of the user being a "Jeff Spicoli" type. Yeah, it makes a statement about the user's intellectual firepower. Take it... Leave it ... Doesn't matter to me.

I'd like to point out the movie that good ole Jeff is from turns 36 years old this year. Language changes over time. I suggestion you accept that it doesn't mean the same thing anymore.

I give up. How many? Which picks, in particular?

GB found a bookend LT in the 4th round. Franchise QB at the end of the 1st. Premiere interior rusher in the 4th. Dominant edge late 1st. Pro-Bowl guards in the 4th. Two top tier CB's as UDFA's. How many people can say that?

Considering how many people here want Schneider to come back, compare his recent drafts with TT. I think you'll be surprised. EVERYBODY misses picks. We are more aware of TT's because we follow the team closely. Most teams miss a lot more picks than we do.

More than the HC, this replacement for TT will determine the future of the Green Bay Packers.

Anyone find Highsmith’s parting words a little troubling?

Which parts?

" It feels good to go somewhere that you feel like you're trusted.""

""It was a great 19 years," Highsmith said. "I hope I did my part for the Packers to make them better. Now I'm gone and you know what, I won't be the last guy.""

I hope you all realize he clarified on those comments later.

I only read the one article, what did he say later on? Sometimes I take the first things out of a person's mouth to be more truthful, then a later conversation meant to soft pedal what they may have previously said. But I'm always open to listening further :)

Honestly, we may lose them regardless. As mentioned already the search firm Murphy hired is working for Houston and evaluating Brian. Murphy may promote Brian just to not lose him, but how much longer will Eliot stay? We may be able to only retain 2 of the 3.

I hope you all realize he clarified on those comments later.

Basically, we have a lot of really good guys working for us. They're going to get promoted elsewhere bc that's how the NFL operates. I'm sure Highsmith, like every employee ever, had gripes about his employer. It's not a big deal.

I think retaining one of them is better than none. If we retain one of them, at least some of our scouting staff will stay and we'll have a leader with scouting experience able to rebuild the ranks. If we lose both and promote someone like Ball, we're starting from square one with our front office and scouting department. I'm open to an outsider who knows how to build a scouting team as well, but I just don't see the Ball move favoring where our team is at right now.
