Call me crazy but I am optimistic that the packers defense will be logging lots of sacks this season. First off I know mostly everyone thinks Clay is on the downward slope. But I attribute his lack of production on health issues. This season I see him return to old form. These are my predictions on who gets how many sacks.
Clay-11
Perry-10
Elliott-5
Fackrell-5
Biegel-4
Daniels-5
Clark-3
Lowry-3
Ryan-2
Martinez-2
Dix-3
Burnett-2
That would be a SuperBowl defense!

I don't expect the Packers defense to get anywhere close to reaching 55 sacks this season, especially considering only three teams in the league have eclipsed that number over the past 10 years.

You forgot Josh Jones. There is another 5 right there.

That's true. Put it at 60.

Also, he doesn't have any coming from the cornerback group. They're good for at least four.

So 64. What's the sack record?

i found 72 by the bears in '84

ETA: in the 2012 article they said only 1 team has had at least 60 sacks in a season in the last decade

ETA again, further checking tells me Carolina then had 60 in 2013, so 2 teams in 15 years ggot to 60 and 61. If we got 64, that would be nice :)

Wow...Well if you really look at it Clay and Perry are capable of double digits, Daniels has had 5+ season before so why not now. Both Dix and Burnett both have had season of 3 and 2 sacks. Blake had 1 last year so I have him getting 2 this year. So the main problem I guess is me having Elliott having a breakout season and I guess Fackrell and Biegel have many doubters here. So what is 35 sacks more reasonable? Personally I think we can crack the 50 mark!

Everyone you list is capable of your estimate. You are on the high side on all the realm of possibilities. It is unlikely everyone ends up on the high side. There are only so many opportunities to go around. For example, we have 3 wrs/tes who I think can have 1200 yards. We have 2 more who could do 1000. We also have 3 more who could get to 700. We also have 3 RBs who could get 300'. So do I think AR can throw for 7,800 yards? Not a chance.

You forgot the 3 TEs. There's another 1500 yds right there!

This would be my stab:

-Perry: 11
-Matthews: 6
-Fackrell: 5
-Biegel: 2
-Elliott: 1

-Daniels: 5
-Lowry: 4
-Clark: 2
-Jean-Francois: 1

-ILB's: 2

-DB's: 2

Total: 41

My worry is that Clay will get all his sacks against inferior L tackles which means weaker teams. I don't think Capers has really figured out how to best use Clay when he is going against a team with a very good L tackle and Clay cannot get by him. Definitely Capers needs to move Clay around a lot more in those situations.

You're right that the 1984 Bears hold the record for most sacks in a season with 72. There have been another two teams that reached at least 70 sacks since the league starting tracking the numbers in 1982 ('89 Vikings - 71, '87 Bears - 70). In total 12 teams have accumulated 64 or more sacks in a single season but none since the 2000 Saints had 66.

I have a hard time understanding why Capers gets blamed for Matthews not being able to beat elite left tackles. He's for sure getting paid like he should be able to generate pressure against those players as well.

I blame Capers because he does not recognize the fact that Clay cannot beat good L tackles and just leaves him out there. The L tackle does not even need any help anymore. So he needs to move him around more when it is obvious Clay is getting nowhere. At least, that is what I see.

Matthews is still the best pass rusher on the team, therefore it makes sense to line him up on the right side of the defense for the majority of the snaps. Capers moves him around quite a bit but doesn't have another decent option to beat left tackles.

If Mathews gets nowhere consistently in a game against a good L tackle; and Mathews is our best rusher; it would make sense to me to put a "body" against the good L tackle and move Mathews to somewhere else where he might make an impact.

Once again, Capers moves Matthews around but there's no reason to line him up as an edge rusher on the left side as Perry is better suited to play there.

Well they need to come up with something when he is getting zero pressure all game long. Stunting more often? Delayed blitzes? And if Perry is not getting pressure; you might as well change positions a couple of times to mix it up more. I get frustrated when they blitz and everyone gets stacked up in the middle. That is why I say delayed.

I don't like Matthews to line up on the strong side as he struggles defending the run though.
