Doesn't take a rocket scientist to come to this conclusion. Of course Rodgers knows it too, the longer he waits, the more he hinders the Packers and their options.

I see how that works. He gets the cap number wrong, so it makes everything else that he says wrong. Glad you were there to correct him.

In my opinion if a reporter can't even get the facts correct I don't feel confident in him speculating on other parts.

A lot of the issue in reporting a cap hit for teams acquiring him is there are two figures as it is now - one with that option exercised and one without...two very big differences.

I honestly don't know what you mean by that. While a team acquiring Rodgers could theoretically not exercise the option I don't see that happening as it would result in a $60 million cap hit for him in 2023. BTW, that wasn't the number Silverstein first used in his article either.

Much of what some of us read in the Media are opinion pieces and where applicable, the reporter might throw in a named source, an unnamed source or just their hunch, based on what they know.

Unfortunately none of the reporters that have mentioned the Packers are done with Rodgers have named one of their sources. Not a single one.

I have no problem with people disagreeing with an opinion, but support your different opinion with facts or your assumptions.

It's a fact that during the 2021 offseason those same reporters that you're quoting now published that the Packers are done with Rodgers and that the quarterback told unanimous sources that he had played his last game for the Packers.

Fast forward to now and Rodgers is still on the team's roster and has started every single game since those reports have come out. Yet you still put a ton of stock into those rumors despite them having been proven completely wrong over the past two years.

But don't worry, at some point they will be correct about it.

True. I think it’s safe to say he’s earned his $11m money. Obviously he was a Day3 selection so his rookie money was minimal. The guy is just such a consummate professional both on and off the field. I’m more responding to some notion that he’s been “overpaid”. If anything he’s earned every dollar and then some. Very happy we retained him.

Just to clarify, I don't believe Jones has been overpaid either.

Yup I said it towards the end of the season, I don't see a 2023 where both are in GB. I won't guarantee it as of course there is a very small chance...but honestly I feel there is more of a chance neither is here than both are.

I highly doubt there's any chance neither Rodgers nor Love are on the roster in 2023.

Have you seen the rumors that Dallas would like to trade for Rodgers? That would reunite him with McCarthy. I wonder how they would both feel about that? Unless they fired McCarthy, but then who would replace him?

That's not going to happen. The Cowboys would take an additional cap hit by trading Prescott on top of having to pay Rodgers.

From what I've seen of him in Dallas so far, MM hasn't changed from the guy who left GB.

The Cowboys have actually played pretty well on offense since McCarthy took over as their head coach. Despite Prescott missing a total of 17 games over the past three seasons they rank third in points scored since 2020.

I've thought the same thing, but there is a scenario where I think Love and Rodgers will both be on the team. Rodgers tells the Packers he wants to play for 1 and only 1 year and then he 100% is going to retire. In that case, I still would be fine with the Packers trading Rodgers, but if they keep him and still think Love is the guy, they they lock Love in for the 5th year at $20M and convince him this is what is best for him, one more year on the bench and then he is the starter.

I don't consider that a viable option as it would result in the quarterbacks counting at least $42.735 million towards the team's cap in 2024.

Things that prevent both being on the team in 2023:

No Rodgers scenarios:

3. Packers decide to trade Rodgers and keep Love

Actually Rodgers could force his way into being on the Packers roster in 2023. There's no way the team can trade him without his approval.

Who knows when he will make his decision. Could be another 6 weeks of speculation.

I guarantee Rodgers will inform the Packers of his decision before the start of the new league year.

No one is placing any significant weight on the claims…is there a possibility it true of course…just as much as that none of it is. The worst case is if there is as much of both….and neither side is going to be happy.

@Pokerbrat2000 for sure puts in a lot of weight in those claims. Otherwise what's the point of posting at least one article per day containing another negative spin on Rodgers?

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to come to this conclusion. Of course Rodgers knows it too, the longer he waits, the more he hinders the Packers and their options.

Did you even care to read the article? Of course it might make more sense for the Jets to sign Carr as they wouldn't have to give up any draft compensation for him, he would most likely be cheaper and he's significantly younger than Rodgers. It has absolutely nothing to do with AR not having informed the Packers of his decision to return for another season.

Which is of course why I said I feel there is more chance of that than both being on the roster in 2023 to express how strongly I feel it is unlikely both are here in 2023.

Did I just read this correctly? The Silverstein article is basically reporting on a conversation between Bob McGinn and Tyler Dunne?

And it was McGinn, who has basically taken every worst case scenario with anything to do with Rodgers for basically the 5 years and has been right on pretty much zero, that said the Packers were disgusted and moving on?

And he cited “his own instincts” and “knowledge of the league”?

This is what passes as legitimate journalism these days?
Thanks for that Mondio. Some of these guys wouldn't have a chance at a sports reporting gig in a real city. There are a few JS writers I like. McGinn isn't one of them. IMO he's guessing at what the Packers' FO is thinking about Rodgers. It's simply not an easy decision to move away from him. So when I hear they're "done" with him, well, I don't buy it. at least not until we hear from Rodgers.

Now it is possible that they've already worked out a trade for him, but it's just as likely they want him to stay. So absolutes don't make sense.

If i'm the Jets, and i'm looking for a QB to put me over, I'm focusing on Rodgers. Carr can go wherever he wants. Between the 2, i'm not settling for Carr. I'm getting what I want, or i'm going to find a different one. Carr isn't it. Carr is OK, Carr is what he is though.

But that's me. A team might fully think Carr is the one to get it done for them. In that case, why wait? you've already determined he's the guy that can help you get it done. He's free to sign for whatever contract you're going to give him. You don't have to give anything up. Just do it already. Why on earth would you wait to see if a guy I still think is here or retired might have some chance to trade for when you know it's a season or 2 at most. But you have a guy you think is it already available? On the flip side, if you don't think Carr has what you need, why would you sign him as your starter in the first place? there are lots of options, IMO, that will give you Carr results at QB. Sign Mayfield or Garrapolo. There's 3 QB's that are all at the same level and none are really going to elevate you anywhere. They might keep you above suck level but I'm not holding out for that. I'll take my chances.

Regardless, Rodgers said we'd know by FA, just like last year. I have no reason to doubt that and it's Feb. 21st, it's 3 weeks away.

Anyone dismissing Aaron Rodgers over a retreat (as comical as it is!) who let’s face it might very well have 3-4 years left in the tank, is not very intelligent in looking at the big picture.
Here’s likely the Best raw QB to ever play the game going onto market. Regardless of if I want him to stay or not? This is the chance of lifetime for a team this season or next etc.. This opportunity comes around about once every 10-15 seasons (Montana, Manning, Brady etc.. ) and there will be teams wishing they could be in a position to snatch him but csnt because of lack of draft capital, financial constraint or incumbent QB’s that are entrenched.

We’re talking likely a couple of Day 1 selections at most or equivalent. If he ends up playing more than 2 seasons? that’s a bargain. If he plays 3-4 seasons those draft picks will look small. It’s really a shame we’re in this financial mess or I’d just keep him.

Carr and Mayfield are not gonna get any team to the SB. Garropolo might if he stayed with the Niners, but that's not happening.

It’s a waiting game now. Speculation and repeated rumors as to what the Packers and or Rodgers will be doing. I don’t think Love is going anywhere.

Just my opinion but the only way GB stays on this fiscal crash course is if Rodgers restructured into a much lower $$ number and I just don’t see it happening. This is a Z’adarius 2.0 contract. We can’t afford him and he’d refuse to play for anywhere close to Brady $$. It’s a Stalemate

I agree with what you say, but the 4 day darkness retreat? That's something I'd rather he kept to himself. He makes himself look like a head case. Well, he is a head case. And as you note, he's still a very talented QB. But IMO he's on his last contract, unless he's traded and agrees to a new contract. Doubt it.

Regardless of what happens with Rodgers Love is the Packers future, whether it’s this year or next. Rodgers is old slow and holds the ball too long. Game on the line, 4th quarter in three consecutive season ending losses. 10 of 23 for 83 one PICk zero TD’s. Those are his numbers in the clutch. 3 consecutive times he needec to step up. His QB rating is 53 … five - three

I understood that, but in my opinion there's zero chance of that happening.

Carr might be able to get a team to the Super Bowl if he's surrounded with a lot of talent.

I really don't understand why people take offense with Rodgers spending four days on a darkness retreat to figure out his future. While it's definitely not something I would ever consider doing I don't have any issue with him choosing that to be his preferred option.

And as others have said there’s certainly plenty of worse ways for a person to spend a bit of vacation time. If Rodgers wants to lock away his cell phone and spend a few days by himself and his own thoughts at the end of the day I’d certainly prefer that than going to spend a few days clubbing in Cabo and getting wasted (or, you know, tripping balls in Peru with his shaman )

Comparatively speaking four days of isolation seems like a pretty dang tame thing to do.

He isn't a guy who plays his best when the pressure is on. 4 losses in the NFCCG, now two were blowouts, but they certainly should have beaten the Hags in 2014 and the Bucs a few years back. The Hags fiasco can be blamed mostly on MM, but Rodgers was in position to pick up some game winning first downs to kill time with a lead, and failed. And I'm not even counting the divisional loss to the Niners where they didn't score an offensive TD.

So couple his weak performance in big games with the fact he's just too full of himself, and let's move on. Gluten made a mistake resigning him last year, but most of us, not all, were ok with it. Hopefully he wants to play somewhere else and the team can get some draft capital and get Love on the field.

We all could use a day here and there with no electronic devices. But in total darkness and alone? Well, not for me. Hey live and let live I guess.

By any chance does anybody know ARs 4th quarter stats in the losses to TB, SF & DET? I can't seem to find them anywhere.
10 of 23 83 total yards one interception - ZERO touchdowns - for 3 quarters when games were on the line. Mr MVP (except in the clutch)

He was surrounded with offensive talent last year. Not sure about his Oline, but he certainly was stacked with skill players around him.
Carr did have a lot of playmakers around him on offense - Adams, Jacobs, Waller, Renfroe. Not sure about the Oline and D though. I think the R8DRS have a coaching problem as well with McDaniels.

I agree if Carr had talent ALL around him - offense, defense, STs - he could manage a team to a SB. Trent Dilfer did it in Tampa. The only place I can think for Carr right now would be the Jets. They have a lot of talent except QB. But if the Jets want to win now (and who doesn't?) they'll go for Rodgers. Just my opinion.

Then again, Rodgers hasn't been very good in advancing a team when the lights were bright (four NFCCG losses since the lone SB). Yeah Rodgers has one ring, good for him. Carr hasn't played on a team good enough to get to the SB. And don't get me wrong - I'm not comparing Rodgers to Carr. Last season aside, Rodgers is still a good QB.

Carr is available in the market, that is 100%. Rodgers may or may not be available with an undetermined time of when he may or may not be available. With QB being the most important position on the field, if they view Carr as an acceptable option, no reason to wait so, in that regards the entire darkness retreat can be blamed. But really, Rodgers could have just said, "I'm going to the local comic store, drinking Mountain Dew for 4 days straight and staying up reading Archie and Jughead so don't bother me" same impact.. unavailable for 4 days while the NFL chugs along.

I really hope this is the last offseason of this drama junk.
