However, if the better offenses put up 30+ points on us, like Detroit did, then I can see giving him his walking papers.
I agree with you but also just fact checking so this doesn’t disseminate into the “anti Barry” thing.
The Detroit Offense scored 27
No team has scored more than 27 points against our D thus far.

17th last year in points?
20th this year in points?

It’s incomprehensible.

I agree though in that we need to keep playing the good teams good. Meaning no 35 or 40 Burgers. Plus my biggest issue is our #30 ranked Run Defense. It’s appalling after all the DL and LB resources we’ve poured into this team. Anything above a #20 ranked Run D is unacceptable.

This is what we’ve drafted on D in Day 1 across the last 5 drafts across our Defense. Every member here has taken significant snaps across that time and yet we are #30 ranked?

#12, #13,#21 #22, #28, #29

Plus draft on Defense
2023: #116, #179, #232, #242
2022: #179, #228, #234
2021: #173. #178 #220
2020: #175, #236, #242
2019: #150, #185, #226

Plus adding
Rasul Douglas
Adrian Amos
ZaDarius Smith
Preston Smith
Whitney Mercilus

That’s 6 Defenders added per Season either drafted or FA

The issue isn't that our defense hasn't been good, it's that it hasn't been great. Barry isn't Fangio.

Both of these posts sum up my feelings. For instance, yesterday, the Packers defense may not have been "bad", but they couldn't shut down a weak offense when the game was on the line.

There is no doubt that the offense is pretty much losing games for us, but I see a lot more room for that group to grow and develop (higher ceiling). As GnG points out, I have to ask if the defense has a lot more potential, but just not the right coach to get it out of them.

Exactly. So far we have played only one good offense and that one was smothered yesterday by a real defense. If our offense cannot move the ball and run clock our D will certainly give up those points and be out there all day.

I could see that. One issue with getting rid of Barry is that the defense has actually played pretty solid ball. They've held opponents in check and allowed them to stay in games. The offense isn't scoring enough. Do you still fire Barry?
Except that again this past game, the D was on the field for some long drives.

Yeah. Barry should have been gone already. He stills play that ridiculous soft zone on 3rd and 5+. The CBs line up just past the first down marker instead of bumping at the LOS, the opponent throws a 4 yard slant route and voila, first down. They did it yesterday, they always do it, and they lose because of it. I would have been ok with a 17-16 win yesterday. As bad as the O plays, the D needs to be better. Holding the Broncos under 20 doesn't mean much IMO.

Broncos held he chiefs under 20….doesn’t mean Chiefs offense sucks. I know you’re not making that leap just saying.

It’s the NFL honestly holding teams under about 18-21 is freaking tough business typically regardless.

You’re not wrong though.

Also I heard from a contact Anders took the loss especially hard…blames his miss as an easy fix for at least the win loss column.

If he made it, guessing most people probably think the final score would have just been 22-20.
Kid will be OK. Glad he is concerned. But hey Crosby missed some crucial kicks in 2008 and 2009. And we recall what happened to him that one season like in Detroit in doors! The Niner kicker missed one that could have altered how they played their final drive last night. And Joseph missed one for Minny that could have all but iced it. Like to think if he made the kick in Denver we may be leading 20-16 and the Broncos do not kick the FG but go for the 1st down to eventually get 7. Who knows if we stop them or not?

JHC....is this the bar for our defense now?

Yes, you fire Joseph Barry. You fire him every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Did you see his defensive formation on the opening drive for Denver yesterday on the walk-in touchdown which we got bailed out by a hold? This is a recurring, time and time again theme.

It's like Stockholm syndrome or something. We are praising the defense for a game in which they gave up 350 yards and 6 YPC to a woeful Denver offense. That is sad.

Green Bay's defense ranks middle of the pack because they've absolutely loaded the defense with high draft picks and FA talent and they've played a cupcake schedule with virtually no good offenses so far in 2023. Quick, name one good offense we've faced this season. Just Detroit, and they manhandled us.

Getting rid of Barry within the next year or two is a foregone conclusion. The only question is whether he's just the fall guy or just one in a long list of a gutted coaching staff.

I'm not a Barry fan. I would like to see him go. I didn't like the hiring in the first place. How does a franchise hire the defensive coordinator of the 0-16 Lions. It's baffling to me. My only point is that this season the defense has not been the problem. Holding teams, especially statistically awful teams, to less that 21 points should be an easy victory. The Raiders and the Broncos losses are on the offense. My preference would be to fire the entire coaching staff and bring in some proven coaches. MLF was not proven. The Packers, like other teams, were trying to hit like the Sean McVay hiring. I'm not praising this defense or the coaching staff.

My point is that the offense lost that game. The defense held them under 21 points. The Broncos ranked statistically one of the worst defensive teams in the league. That was an embarrassing effort by Love and the offense.

Yes, that was like high school bad. I yelled at my friends for that one. How do you just let a slant pass happen on 3rd down. It's as though they have never seen that play before. It was a SMH moment for sure. I don't agree though with holding a team under 20. If a defense does that then it should be a win. As I stated before, that Denver defense is one of the worst in the league. They should have scored more than 20 points against them. Regardless of how bad everyone thinks the defense is, the offense lost that game.

I guess my feeling is that it's all been a problem. They've all had moments of being the problem. I agree that the entire coaching staff needs to be rebuilt and I see no reason that Gute shouldn't be part of the exodus.

I get what the Packers were trying to do with the MLF hire but the more you watch him operate as a HC he is clearly in over his head when he needs to be the one in charge of the offense and not a veteran QB.

If you continue to lose to the worst teams in the league, are you the worst team in the league? Troubling times.

If barely beat one of the worst teams in the league, does that mean you are barely better than them? Not everything is a vacuum...the Chiefs are lightyears better than the Broncos yet Denver held them to less than 20 and were in the game against them.

Yes, the NFL is a finicky thing. As another example, the Patriots are a really bad team and somehow managed to beat the Bills.

Josh Allen was pressured on 42% of his drpbacks, so Belichik figured out how to scheme that win. MLF needs to figure out how to make this offense avoid 3 & outs in the 1st half.

Does anyone here have any confidence in any area of the Packers besides the punter? Our optimism for the past 30 or so years has created this situation we aren’t used to being in. There was always eternal hope for the most part. Now there is a lot of uncertainty.

Um...I'm going to say something in a general sense not directed at you or anyone else - only an ignorant fan would have confidence solely in the punter. BUT there is for sure not a ton or as much as you would like to see for sure!

Whelan has been awesome but you noted that.

Anders has been awesome this year as a rookie kicker...was clean until this last game and absolutely has proven to have a boot and reminds me of a young Crosby, I'm very excited to see if he can hold onto this phenomenal rookie season.

Gary in pass situations...his pressure creation is Watt/Crosby/Bosa level or more. INCREDIBLE

Our DBs collectively are solid when healthy, and Rasul is playing like the best defensive all around player with a G on their helmet.

Grit/Tenacity...this team has TONS of negatives but one thing they've proven every week is don't count them out. Even in the Lions game that team got back in it and couple untimely penalties and an INT where Watson didn't come off break hard and back cost us a chance (stress on chance...).

Portions of our OL play. Zach Tom is proving to be our best offensive lineman that is on the active roster, yes this season he is playing better than Jenkins.

Dontayvion Wicks separation skills.....folks I'm telling you right now he is the best WR at beating his man, while the group as a whole is ROUGH and RAW he is showing insane knack for this...

....and extension of him Reed has shown immense promise....so while confidence in the WR may be the wrong term, that is one group I like the projection and future of for sure.

Not trying to sound overly pessimistic but I guess part of me thinks like.. what did we expect? LaFleur’s primary successes on offense came either A.) when he had a HoF, all-time great QB or B.) when he wasn’t the one calling the plays. LaFleur calling plays on offense without an all-universe QB has been underwhelming to say the least.

And then Barry has been straight up dogsh*t when he’s previously been put in charge of a defense.

So like I said… maybe we’re more or less getting what we should have expected.

Hire a guy who has previously proven himself to be a mediocre defensive coordinator (I’m being kind) and you get… a mediocre defense.

Hire a guy who has previously proven himself to be a mediocre offensive coach when he has to call plays and doesn’t have a HoF QB and ask him to call plays without an elite QB and you get a mediocre offense.

So in some ways it feels like we’re more or less just reaping what we sowed at this point.

Josh Allen was pressured on 42% of his drpbacks, so Belichik figured out how to scheme that win. MLF needs to figure out how to make this offense avoid 3 & outs in the 1st half.
Yeah, that’s one of my big gripes. I mean not this specific issue so much but it’s like… I think there is generally enough talent parity in the league that any team typically has enough talent to beat any other team with the proper planning/coaching/execution. at the same time, with poor planning/coaching/execution it’s hard to win on talent alone.

And so the problem (or one of them) for us is that we no longer have the raw talent to simply out-talent other teams and win. You can do that with a HoF QB and elite weapons. That’s a lot harder with a young unproven QB and weapons. And at the moment I don’t know how many (if any) teams there are that I feel we can confidently out-plan and out-coach to make up for any talent discrepancies. I don’t think LaFleur is the worst coach in the world or anything, but I also can’t think of many times he’s been the one out-coaching the opposition; feels like he’s always on the losing side of that battle.

1. I was kidding. 2. I believe the talent is good in some areas but the schemes/play calling is horrible. How many calls did MLF really make when Rodgers was the QB? How can we make bid defensive stops with the wrong defense called. We have all seen it. The air is out of the balloon. Let’s see who can blow it up again.

So the main issue if you watch the Denver game was the simple fact there were quite a few plays where given the personnel grouping and alignment the Broncos stayed in MLF did not have a "can call" to the play call. IF you remember one of the main issues when he came was Rodgers felt restrained to audible, they worked it out and Rodgers would audible at times in situations like this. Love is very much not there yet and the play proceeded....also if you really breakdown, there were times where Rodgers cans a play to the other option yet will signal or change one route communicating to the receiver....it was in these moments sometimes where his hissy fits would occur because the receiver wasn't Lazard or Adams and truthfully had never known that signal.

From what we learned last night the Vikings lead the league in blitzes with 37%. You have to believe they are licking their chops with our young QB, weak line, and young receivers. Rodgers was once dangerous against the blitz. Love could be using those legs a lot this week.
