I'm being optimistic, this isn't exactly a "vaunted" New Orleans Saints defense

How many games against the Saints for Hundley are included in those stats? :whistling:

I think Hundley will go 12-21 for 114 yds. 1 TD and 2 int.

After Hundley gets knocked out,

Callahan will go 3-11 for 47 yds. 0 TD and 1 int.

I expect a lot of short ,high percentage passes. Let the other skill positions make the plays. A solid dose of run game as well.

The biggest difference I expect is on defense. Typically, Capers drops back in a bend but don't break style defense. Usually the gross amount of yards to guys like Brees, are offset by #12... Not any more... unlike years past, he now he has a healthy and effective front 7. missing Burnett forces a vanilla game plan for the dbacks... with king back, and Randall seemingly playing better since the chitstorm. Otherwise, banged up and short handed at the cb position. He will man up and try to get to brees with the front 7. Successfully.

Good post. I think NO, will be expecting just the same thing from the Packer offense, which is why MM might have to let Hundley test his arm strength a few times, or the Saint will just bring everyone up.

I don't have as much confidence in our defense as you do, but optimism is a good thing.

If you look at how McCarthy has brought up his young qbs over the years. It's definitely slow and deliberate. He starts with the short throws. Runs entirely too much for a pass first offense not built to run. And picks only a few plays to go deep...
Hundley is in year three, and shown as a rookie, HR has a pretty good looking deep ball. But he had had way too many turnovers. The game plan needs to protect him from himself. And slowly see what works for him down field. We won't see a big game. But hope to see no turnovers, and a high completion percentage...
That at least gives the other high dollar offensive weapons a chance to make a big play.

On defense, I see a few new contributors. Clark. Him and Daniels together seem to make this defense work. Martinez is playing great. Especially considering he was an after though before the season started. And king! That young player is making plays. He may not be able to put Julio on lock down, one on one... yet... but he not a half step behind like most rookies. He hits too. KOd himself. But he will be back out this week, surely...

Injured Perry, and Mathews are mixing things up, and have made their impacts...

Randall has been playing better since his benching.

They are fighting their injury bug like everyone does. But the defense is good, and on an up trend imo.

I have to say I think Hundley can win this game. I remember when Seneca Wallace came in after Rodgers was hurt and looked bad. Longtime Fan posted to give coach a week with him and he will look completely different with a game plan built around Wallace. Wallace came out next game and looked really good until he got hurt. Hundley may not have great Rodgers like stats Sunday, but I think he will be better than he was against the Vikings and he leads us to victory.

A win this Sunday going into the bye week would certainly give reason for optimism. Hope you're right.

Saints D is not really that good. Hundley would have a better time than he had with Vikings. On the other hand, our secondary vs Brees is more concerning.

If we get a few breaks, we certainly can win this. Realistically I would expect us to lose 27-20, but my green tinted glasses see the score as 23-20 with us crapping through a win!

With the Saints D being crap Hundley has an easier time getting started. If he fails against a soft Saints D then we are truly up the creek without a paddle.

With that post I am at 666 post be afraid everyone....

Interesting stat that Havel tossed out this afternoon. In the last 5 games, N.O. AVERAGED 38 points per game.

A better question might be...can Hundley outscore his own defense?

Hundley is behind the worst o line in the league. They average 4 sacks per game. He will throw 1 td and 2 picks with 200 yards and be sacked 3 times. It really doesn't matter who the defense is, the o line is a sieve this year.

Unfortunately I don't share your optimism about the defense at all, especially as the unit hasn't performed at a decent level so far and significantly regressed four years ago once Rodgers went down.

Randall hasn't improved since the Bears game by any means.

Looking forward to this week's game against the Saints it seems a lot of posters around here haven't realized their defense has played pretty well over the past three games.

Thinking about this game is just depressing without 12 on the field. Who cares what Hundley's stats are?

In fairness to the Oline, they're currently just a bunch of guys...mostly, playing out of position.
