The Packers would be left with close to no cap space by trading for Peterson. While he would present an upgrade at cornerback releasing Brice wouldn't make any sense as it would weaken an already struggling position group at safety.
Bethea wouldn't improve the cornerback position though.
It doesn't make any sense for the Packers to cut either Cobb or Matthews as their contracts became full guaranteed in week 1.
The Packers currently don't have enough cap space to make a trade for Jones.

Clearly. But he would be cheaper than Peterson in terms of costs to acquire and literal cap costs, and he would improve the safety position, which I think needs more help.

My bad, I mistakenly took Bethea for a cornerback. While he performed at a very high level last season he has regressed for some reason in 2018. It's possible he might still present an upgrade over the free safeties currently on the roster there's a chance father time has caught up with him as well.

That's true. I do think it's notable that Pettine's defense is much more similar to Bettcher's (Bethea's 2017 DC) than Wilks'.

they had it figured out to make an offer for Mack so Jones wouldn't be an issue.
Yes it is an issue. Mack was on a 7 million dollar salary and wanted more. He got a new contract. Jones would be traded with his current contract and is due Double what Mack was. If Mack was at double the salary, we would have had to move people to fit him under as well. Jones can't be signed without cutting someone. and all the expensive options we'd like to be rid of don't count, because they're all vested vets and we owe them their money now no matter what. Unless someone wants to trade for them, which is extremely unlikely.

The member of the Cardinals who intrigues me most is Markus Golden. He had 12.5 sacks as a rush linebacker in 2016, missed almost all of 2017 with an injury, and has just recently started working back in. He isn't completely back to his old form yet, and may never be in Wilks' 4-3 defense. However, there's a chance that he could thrive if placed back into a system similar to the one he played in previously. He would be easy to fit into the current cap situation and could potentially heat up as the season progresses and he gets more comfortable. But there's an inherent risk there that he will never be the player that he was previously, so the cost to acquire would need to be low.

Saints just traded for Eli Apple from the Giants. I know Peterson is mentioned to have preferred New Orleans but I doubt they are in the market for another CB. Maybe he starts thinking about other options as well as the Cards?

Raiders are also shopping Gareon Conley. I know they say he's suffering from confidence issues but the Raiders are a dumpster fire. Having a legitimate shot at the postseason and the locker room we have could easily flip that in a week or two. Plus with Alexander and Jackson already doing well he could easily settle in just playing Nickle and Dime against a team's 3rd or 4th best WR.

Joseph from the Raiders would be a better pickup; would represent a significant upgrade over Brice (then again, who wouldn't?) and would give the team a young, improving safety in case they decide to move on from HHCD after the season.

I would be fine with them sending a late pick to the Raiders for Joseph, but I'm not convinced that he would show up and be better than Brice right away.

One thing that depresses his value is that he's kind of a crazy person.
There's a fairly high "crazy quotient" at the perimeter corner position. A little stupid, a little crazy, a short memory and big mouth seems to be a common combination. The impediment would not be "crazy". It's the crazy money which if one had it would be better spent elsewhere.

I'm lost, he's still in his rookie contract. What's crazy about the money?
I thought I was replying to a comment about Peterson, the subject of this thread. On second glance, I guess it was Apple. Carry on, though I don't know why we'd be looking for another CB.

By the way, Apple was traded to the Saints today for 4th. and 7th. round picks.

It's pretty obvious you have no clue on how the salary cap works. As Mack was traded before the start of this season the Packers could have figured out a way to fit him under the cap for 2018 by releasing a vested veteran, most likely Matthews, to create cap space. At this point of the year the salary of those players is fully guaranteed though, hence the team can't cut any of them to make room to acquire Jones.

Raiders are also shopping Gareon Conley. I know they say he's suffering from confidence issues but the Raiders are a dumpster fire. While I kind of understand fans advocating to acquire an All-Pro cornerback in Peterson there's absolutely no need to consider trading for an average one like Conley after the Packers once again spent their first two draft picks on the position this year.

One of the recent articles that I read, stated that if the Packers brought in another CB they could move Tramon Williams to safety where he previously played under Pettine. Williams is still a smart player, but I'm seeing a player that is getting beat due to diminished speed. He needs to be a safety or dime CB. That's why people are talking about another potential CB, because either getting a safety outright or bringing in a safety both have the potential to fix the issue at safety.

Depending on cost I can be on board. Never can have too many riches at DB in a passing league. Losing a good interior pass rusher and run defender hurts. He’s been out for a while, he’s not coming back and nobody has really taken his place. I’d be ok bolstering the back end of the defense. Depending on cost of course.

That wraps that up. And good for him and coming out and saying it. Nobody wants a player that wants to leave his teammates. It’s like thinking the guy/girl that’s cheating on their spouse with you is going to remain true to you. It ain’t happening

Just because he says that he is staying, that doesn't mean that management agrees....but I assume that it's so.
