Everyone is clamoring for a trade with Cleveland...but I'd argue the more likely and also much needed and embraced trade with Cleveland would bring Greg Newsome to GB or Denzel Ward instead of Garrett.
Cleveland is in a MISERABLE cap situation...literally the inverse money wise GB is in....
Look at the two guys, very different situations:
Greg Newsome - First rounder (#26) back in 2021 that if memory serves I believe
@Dantés like me loved (I think I was more bullish on him but we both liked him) him for GB. He had very solid 2021, 2022 years, 2023 was still starting caliber but tackling issues reared head a bit more. 2024 was just a down year. However, Cleveland did pick up his fifth year option so a trade for Newsome would have Packers 2025 cap hit at $13,377,000.
Positives as I see them in this trade: Comfortable in man coverage responsibilities, has immense starting experience for a guy so young, no long term investment. If Jaire is here one more year this is a dynamite type one year deal.
Negatives as I see them in this trade: While it isn't likely going to take top tier draft capital...it might at most pull your third from you for Newsome + Day3 pick type back and Gute does good with draft picks typically (I'd guess 4th rounder I bet)....you have him for one year, so while the risk is low long term...there is the flip side of it. You're also while getting a starter, not signing a bonafide no doubt CB1 and if Jaire is gone, this move is a risky move IMO.
Denzel Ward - 2018 top 5 draft pick (#4) and has served in the NFL as a clear CB1 and really outside of a down 2022 year it's likely he has always been a top 32 or so pick. He will take more than Newsome but less than Garrett by a long shot.
Positives as I see them in this trade: He like many in CLE have not been what they once were, but he is still a bonafide CB1 and to me a perfect guy that would crave the chance to play for a SB contender, he still will only be 28 this season, would pair incredibly well with Jaire if he is here or could be the answer if he isn't. He's truly cheap honestly as he would only cost us around $14M in 2025...and under $20M for next few years.
Negatives as I see them in this trade: Some will say he's on that downward trend and it is risky, some don't view him as a bonafide CB1 anymore and would NOT want him to be the answer to a Jaire departure.
