if you're right and OB 1 is not looking for a multi deal then packs have enough cap to sign him then tell his **** to hit the road next year. I wouldn't mind that.

He obviously wants a multi year deal for big money. Hes is also aware that he isnt going to get that from any team in the league. He will either get a 1 year deal for cheap or a long derm deal for cheap. Which one makes the most sense? He is well aware that whomever he is signing with is a 1/2 year deal and he hits FA to get paid by anyone.

he's weighing all options alright...how bout the option of going to Houston, Miami, or the Jets? He needs to eat clay to help his immune system.

I'm reading the tea leaves to conclude that all of his offers are that the teams won't sign him until next week when there's NOT a $3Mil roster bonus attached to the new contract.

Pretty sure that roster bonus is gone and off the books. That would have been what the Browns would have been on the hook for next week plus the $4.5 M, under his newly negotiated contact, had they not released him. If a team had claimed him off waivers they would have owed him the roster bonus and the total of $7.5 M as well. Nobody claimed him, so now he is a free agent, all he can do is hope someone pays him more than whatever the highest offer on the table is right now and that somehow he will end up being offered more than what the Browns owe him ($4.5M). Otherwise, The Browns remain on the hook for anything less than the $4.5 M remaining on his contract with them.

I think that was why the $7.5 M number was being reported, that was what was left, with the $3M roster bonus, which is now void.

Another interesting tidbit I read was the the Saints only wanted to work out a trade for him, if the Browns would take on some of their upcoming debt. Seems we aren't the only ones in cap hell for 2022.

i should have clarified my post to say I wish they had gotten a tight end before the trade deadline. There were several in their price range. That's what I would have rather seen. But that didn't happen for some reason. So, Yeah, now you would have to wait for one to get waived. So OBJ at the minimum is probably the best they can do.

because the majority of us are not coaches or have a degree in sports management.
Yes. But what your missing are the thousands of decisions we’ve made regarding a plethora of issues. As a packerforum group were just leagues ahead of these bozo’s!
Rodgers has a whole slew that can stretch the field except at TE.
I agree TE is a bigger need, we sometimes go have to work with what’s in front of us.
So who do you take out? Cobb? Lazard? Adams? MVS? EQ? Where are they going to play ? ST gunners?
Let’s reflect for a minute. We’ve been talking about getting Aaron help and this is the most talented player to come along in years. He had a yards after the catch factor that is very unique. You can’t ever have too much talent at the position, especially when injuries or illness arise. It’s very rare every WR is healthy every game.
We’ve all witnessed our top WR going down. We need depth at every position.
I don’t like the guy personally, but he’s not exactly an axe murderer here. Aaron to Odell would be fun to watch anyway snd our Offense needs some juice right now. Last year I would say heck no. This year? We’re rated like 16th on Offense? That’s nowhere near good enough to go deep into playoffs, the clock is ticking.. and this may be our last shot in awhile. At 500K plus a small bonus for a SB appearance/Win?? I’m totally ok with that.

How many TEs were traded before the deadline? What do you mean by in their price range? Money wise ? Trade compensation wise? You make it sound as if the Packers had their pick of TEs but how many were really available for the right price. All those articles on which teams should be selling and which TEs were on the block were nothing more than opinion pieces. No one knows if those players were even available.

OB 1 translation about wanting time to think things over..."I will pretend I want time to think about my next move but will just take this year off because I don't want to fk things up and have the final nail in my coffin that will jeopardize my chance at a giant multi million gallion deal next year!"

packs have too much on the line with Adams. Doesn't seem logical to sign this mental case that could jeopardize the ongoing talks with Adams. Then again is Adams considering another team knowing Rodgers is near retirement? Just putting things out there to ponder.

Who is reporting OBJ wants a multi-year deal right now? Everything I've seen is that he's looking to join a playoff team this year and will hit the open market for longer term deal in the offseason.

You are aware Adam’s said he reached out to OBJ and is hopeful he comes….

in that case how can OB1 turn that down? I mean how dumb does he have to be? he wants a 1 year term so how can he pass on a team with one of the hottest QBs this year along with a #1 receiver that is willing to put aside OB1's mental issues and go out there to win a Lombardi?

he seems to be sociopath, and i'm sure rod has that on the back of his mind. so i guess i think he would be better in new orleans. I wouldn't take a gamble on this one. again MY 2 cents.

I don't think you know what a sociopath is. From the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition ("DSM-5"), a "sociopath" is defined under the heading of Antisocial Personality Disorder as follows:

"APD (Antisocial Personality Disorder) is a DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition), diagnosis assigned to individuals who habitually and pervasively disregard or violate the rights and considerations of others without remorse. People with Antisocial Personality Disorder may be habitual criminals, or engage in behavior which would be grounds for criminal arrest and prosecution, or they may engage in behaviors which skirt the edges of the law, or manipulate and hurt others in non-criminal ways which are widely regarded as unethical, immoral, irresponsible, or in violation of social norms and expectations. Those with APD often possess an impaired moral conscience and make decisions driven purely by their own desires without considering the needs or negative effects of their actions on others. Impulsive and criminal behavior is common. The terms psychopathy or sociopathy are also used, in some contexts synonymously, in others, sociopath is differentiated from a psychopath, in that a sociopathy is rooted in environmental causes, while psychopathy is genetically based."

If you think that fits OBJ. Well, either you know things that have never been made public, or, you're wrong.

I'm going with the latter.

The great thing about being a GM isnt just the power to hire. It’s also the power to fire. We’re forgetting (not you necessarily) that if he don’t work? Bye bye.
If he does work? It will go down as the move of the year.

As with anything in psychology, there are varying degrees of APD. He definitely has some APD tendencies. That's great for a CEO who has to make decisions in the best interest of a company even if it hurts some individuals. It's bad in a team environment.

Sick of the armchair psychologists here.

People need to stop spouting pop psychology BS.

If you don't like the guy--fine. But to suggest he is a sociopath is bleep bleep.*

Well, I do have a B.A. in psychology, so there's that. Besides, you were the one dragging out the DSM and playing armchair psychologist. I simply corrected you, or rather, explained it to you further.

A 4th or 5th rounder and assuming what's left of their contract. Most articles said there were 4 to 6. One TE was traded. It would have been a little out of character and it didn't happen. But MLF said Gutey was trying. Teams must have wanted a higher pick than GB and most writers figured they were worth or a pick and players.

Not sure, maybe OBJ will buy it from him. I doubt that would be a deal breaker for him.

The Packers have a few pluses for OBJ: Rodgers and SB contending team.

The Packers have a few minuses: Very small budget this and next year and more competition for the #1 WR spot than say New England.

I think he signs with either the Packers or Patriots. Patriots may not have a great QB, but it might be a team that he likes and can be the #1 dog. They won't be contending this year, but could in the not so distant future.

The Patriots might not compete for a Super Bowl this season but they have been playing pretty well as of late.

saints need a receiver and do we need a #2 receiver?

OBJ would be an instant upgrade as a #2 receiver for the Packers.

I do believe that a team could still offer him incentives in a new deal and could be offered in such a way that they don't impact this years cap. Someone posted that both the Saints and Chiefs are in worse cap shape than we are, but do either of those teams have options to clear more cap space and/or are sitting better in 2022 than the Packers and thus able to offer him more and push it out?

The Packers could offer incentives but if they're met they would immediately count against the cap. In addition the team would lose OBJ counting less against the cap because of the veteran salary benefit.

The Saints are significantly more screwed & in cap-hell for '22 than the Packers are, so I highly doubt they're contract offer pushes money into '22. The Saints need to cut at least 6 high-priced vets as post-June 1 just to get into positive cap position... and probably 8-10 to give them any room to sign draft picks and/or low-level FA's. New England could push money into '22 if they wanted to but they're playoff future is cloudy with a chance at best.

It's true the Saints are the only team in the league with a cap situation even worse than the Packers entering next season. The Chiefs and Patriots have much more cap space available for 2022 though.

What we do have an opportunity to do, is sign a pro-bowl level WR for a bargain amount. I believe it will improve the team. Not an 'Andre Rison in '96' type of impact - but he could significantly impact our team.

I'm convinced OBJ could put up better numbers than Rison did over his eight game career with the Packers.

Actually, yes any money we spend on Free agents right now affects our cap. It also reduces possibly how much we can carry over to 2022. I am sure that Gute and Ball are keeping a close eye on this, because there still could be the need to make other moves due to injuries.

If the Packers sign OBJ to a veteran minimum deal for the rest of the season and release EQ to make room for him it wouldn't add a single cent to the cap for this year. If they decide to move on from Taylor it would add only $35K to the cap in 2021.

Fletcher Cox would have helped just to get through the season. There WERE about 5 before the deadline. Tim Settle with WF. Ryan Kerrigan with KC. Nick Williams in Detroit. No we are not going to get Ahkeem Hicks ever.

How do you know any of the players you mentioned were available??? As far as I know none of them got traded.

There is a benefit that if a veteran (might have to be vested vet) gets signed to the league minimum for his years of service, his cap hit is only that of a 1st year player.

FWIW a veteran signing for the league minimum accounts for the cap hit of a player with two accrued seasons.

It really comes down to who wants to pay over what the Browns owe him, which is $4.25 M. If he gets less from the Packers or Pats or whoever, he still only makes $4.25M.

So the Packers sales pitch is "We will pay you minimum, you still make your $4.25M, but the Browns pick up the majority of the tab. If we need to further improve the team, you have left us funds to do that. You get to come to a 7-2 team, in need of a #2 WR and a FHOF QB will be throwing to you. What time should we pick you up?"

I wonder if the Browns are off the hook if OBJ signs a long-term deal.

OBJ immediately becomes at worst the 2nd most talented receiver on the team and is absolutely going to be playing big snaps opposite of Davante.

To be fair, OBJ would become at the second most talented receiver on the roster at best as well.

I don't think Odell is what he once was in NY (one of the best WRs in the league) but he's still a very good receiver. He would be the second best receiver in Green Bay by miles but he's not worth the team potentially being forced to part ways with Amos (or a similar player) next year or prevent the team from franchise tagging Adams if they go that route.

The Packers most likely won't be able to afford franchise tagging Adams. In addition OBJ signing for the veteran minimum has absolutely no effect on what the Packers will be able to do regarding the cap next year.

packs have too much on the line with Adams. Doesn't seem logical to sign this mental case that could jeopardize the ongoing talks with Adams. Then again is Adams considering another team knowing Rodgers is near retirement? Just putting things out there to ponder.

Once again, the Packers signing OBJ or any other veteran to a league minimum deal has no bearing on their cap situation.
