Yes Pettine hasn't been great all year, we've been an average defense for the most part being carried by an elite offense

HOWEVER, the fault needs to fall at the feet of Gute as well. We've continually threw draft capital at DB's and left glaring holes all throughout the defense and this past year WASTED 3 picks to begin the year on positions that could have added some talent

Oh trust me, I'm ready to kick our awful GM out of here as well. After he blew major picks this last offseason, I shudder to think of what he might do to waste these next years picks. We need a competent outsider to get in here who actually knows what he's doing.

But after this garbage today, I'd still fire Pettine on a short week just to get rid of that silly 3 man rush play and get someone who knows how to load the box against the run. Just ridiculous how predictable that is.

Fire Pettine now, and then Fire Gute at season end.

WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG, LEFLUER? FIRE PETTINE NOW!!!!

Well, if he has the sole authority to do that, then I agree yes, we need to let the league know the DC position is open here today.

If not, then Mark Murphy needs to get the hell out of the way and let him.

Well, I have to wonder whether or not any part of his job interview hinged on his willingness to keep Pettine. And maybe he figured he might as well, but I think Pacmaniac is right that Murphy has an iron grip on at least part of the staff.

I do believe MLF was able to bring in some of his own guys like Nathaniel Hackett, and I believe Menenga as well. But I don't think he gets to shake up the whole staff and fire guys like Pettine without Murphy allowing it.

If he doesn't get canned right now I smell a rat. The guy has no vision, zero. I know interns that could call a better game than what he is doing.

I have zero confidence in Pettine, especially to come up with a great game plan for a specific opponent. Then again, I have zero confidence in his players to execute it even if he did.

It's basically a chicken and egg argument either way you dice it up.

I guess for me personally, I feel like I'm seeing a bit of the McCarthy complex with Pettine. McCarthy often came under criticism here in his later years because it felt like he was trying to pound square pegs in round holes with some of our offensive personnel. Feel like Pettine's doing some of the same with the defense.

I wonder if the fire Pettine thread will last as long as the long standing Fire Capers thread.

Dan Quinn for DC!

Mehhh, I thought about him, but I'm starting to think his previous success at the University of Florida and Seattle was just due to having a huge swath of incredibly talented players. Seeing him struggle for years on end with that Atlanta defense is a big deterrent for me.

I could probably think of a handful of coaches possibly to be fired that could come in as new DCs, but I think we also need to look beyond the retread market. Someone's gotta be more creative with the defense while also not being too complex.

We need some guys too. We have some guys, but they don’t seem to be playing well. Is that the coach? Maybe, but man, give that effort under a different coach and I can’t see how it’s any better.

Maybe Pettine is the problem, but it’s sure hard to tell some games.

I have been a big fan of Packers for more than two decades and I have come to a point to speak up; few things have to be done right away to have any chance of Aaron Rodgers (who I rate more than Brady) winning at least one more ring.

1. Revisit the whole Packers ownership structure, having a majority owner will lead to a better roster and accountability
2. Fire the front office as they have done nothing recently to help Aaron Rodgers
3. Fire most of the defense, who always say we have to go and look at the tape, it is hard to tackle in the open field, etc. after losing the games. Well, how many times we keep saying the same stuff?

If none of the above happens, I wouldn't be surprised to hear/see Aaron Rodgers moving to a different organization and winning at least one more ring, which he deserves!

A set up similar to and yet different than what we saw with Dom Capers.

We lined up with 4 Corners and 2 Safety's and just 1 Linebacker (Blake Martinez) most of game. Seems the plan was to force Bears to run the ball more. Not sure if this will be standard set up or just to exploit pass errors from a young QB or just because we did not have a speedy linebacker with Burks out...but it worked. Probably not as effective as it should have been given Clay's inept performance means we pressured Mitch less than we would have preferred.

vs Vikings:

With a pass catching RB like Dalvin Cook, we'd get beat badly if we ended up with just 1 linebacker. Add in Murray to the mix, I reckon we probably should see Antonio Morrison more.

And Vikings have a better WR set than Bears, which makes it more complex to defend against.

A quick linebacker who can drop into coverage will be sorely missed, imo.
