For the people that want to sign Thomas for what will likely be a very large contract, are you not concerned with a 30 year old player that has broken the same leg twice within the past few seasons?

I am, which is why I don't. If we're going to invest money, make it in a healthy young guy or one of our own like Clark coming up. We need to hit some draft picks more than anything.

Against those numbers, im happy to take Spain and Vacarro of their hands
These guys rate these players thus
  • Quinton Spain, G, Titans. Age: 28.

  • Justin McCray (RFA), G, Packers. Age: 27.

So what is the gain of swapping RFA McCray or Patrick for Spain?
and Vacarro as 9th

Kenny Vaccaro, S, Titans. Age: 28.

Kenny Vaccaro did a solid job filling in for the injured John Cyprien this past season. He's a decent starting safety who still has a couple more seasons before he turns 30. He has an extensive injury history, unfortunately.

ET3 is that good.
He is, but he's still not getting younger, and he's broken the same leg 2 seasons in a row. I've seen my share of injury plagued investments. It's one thing to miss a guy on a rookie contract, it's another to be missing a playmaker you've invested a healthy amount of cap space in. Sure if the contract was favorable for us, I'd be all over it. But he was looking for a pay day, i'm not looking to give him one.

Cole Beasley or Randall Cobb?

Sounds like Beasley is not very happy in Dallas and may test the FA market. I think he and Cobb will probably be in the same ballpark money wise.

One reason I would lean towards Beasley is injuries. Now that could all change, but so far, Beasley has been a lot less susceptible to injuries than Cobb.

Who would you prefer or neither?

Cole Beasley looks like a good, young receiver.....It will be interesting to see how much attention he draws in free agency, should Dallas let it get that far.

Another player to consider at that position is Golden Tate. He's older, but he's as tough as nails, and always seems to be the guy to move the chains on third down. A veteran presence who could help the young receiver group and provide #12 with a security blanket.

Interesting article on impending free agency here:

I ****ing hate Golden Tate. But if he could run routes and make all those catches for us instead, I could probably cheer for him.

I haven’t paid much attention to his career lately, if he’s still making those catches and still off the injury reports he might be worth more than a casual glance.

Tate's stats:

He may be a player in decline, but still puts up respectable numbers. It likely comes down to what his asking price is going to be, but he might be worth a one or two year investment.

I'd love Landon Collins too, but he's not usually a guy teams let get to that point. but I guess if you consider the team he's with now anything is possible

Born: April 26, 1989 (Age: 29-273d)

Born: August 2, 1988 (Age: 30-175d)

Didn't know a 9 month age difference mattered except around one's late teens - early 20's or mid -late 60's when the law treats you different based on age.

It's the magic of "30". For whatever reason some fans have decided that the 30-year old cutoff for running backs actually pertains to every position on the field. I personally think it's just a select few that missed the "RB" in the original post-30 year old article and assumed that every position should only have guys younger than 30.

Brandon Graham and Trey Flowers would be nice, if expensive edge rushers. One guy that would be really interesting is Shaq Barrett from the Broncos; he was pretty good in 2017 but the Broncos drafted Chubb at #5 and moved him ahead of Barrett. Barrett won't be as expensive and will only be 26 next year.

Jesse James, if inexpensive, would allow the Packers to add a young TE with terrific upside in the passing game (he's already a good blocker).

Grady Jarrett would allow the Packers to move on from Mike Daniels; while Daniels is great, Jarrett is a better pass rusher.

Earl Thomas would be nice too. Not really that concerned with his broken leg, broken bones tend to be flukes.

I think 30 is where you start to consider the length of the deals for free agents. If a guy is 28 you have no problem going with a 4 year deal. If he's 30 you start to wonder if he can hack it for the length of the deal and that has to play into your signing bonus and the like.

Been reading recently about some talk of the Cowboys possibly releasing Sean Lee.
What thinks the board?

Appears to be a no brainer that the Cowboys will cut him to save $7M. With Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith being their young and promising starters. Lee is even contemplating retiring.

3-4 years ago, I would have been all over signing Sean Lee, but it appears due to injuries/age (32), his better days are behind him.

Nope, soon to be 33 years old, was moved to weakside linebacker previously as he couldn't hold up to the hits. Only ran a 4.7 almost a decade ago, and has been hampered by soft tissue injuries.

Okay we brought in a veteran in Julius Peppers who was up in age and yet he was able to perform inspite of having injuries. Let's throw this age thing out the door shall we? I also believe when The Packers got Reggie White he was in his 30's as well. His better days MAY be behind him, but that doesn't mean he can't still play lights out.

Peppers and Reggie where beasts and healthy ones. Sean Lee has not been. Not in his entire career has he been known as consistently available or healthy. He's been good, he's had hamstring problems the past 3 seasons in a row and has a history going back much further than that. It's a given he'll miss time, will it start in week 3 again next year? earlier?

In some cases, age probably doesn't matter a ton, Tramon Williams for example. Might not be at his physical peak, but available and smart. Sean Lee, i have no doubt on the intelligence and instincts, but injuries i'm sure have taken a toll, and I'm not ready to roll the dice they won't continue to do so. There's like a 10 year track record of him missing significant time.

If healthy, he's an incredibly smart and instinctive player. Not what he used to be, but again if healthy, could be an excellent one-year stopgap and a big help to our young guys.
