Little bit of a different prospect type thread. Discussions naturally slide towards positional prospects in the expected round rage and such….but this discussion can naturally ignore some guys that you might feel are just too good to turn down in a scenario…

The first position that comes to mind is safety…with X, Williams and Bullard we are set and I’ve only really discussed or focused on day3 type guys to deep dive on but I’ll be honest Nick Emmanwori and Xavier Watts are two safety prospects that I’ll be honest I have a really hard time ignoring - they so good. I could fight the urge day1 but if we trade out into day2 earlier half I’d really struggle.

Tyler Warren and Loveland both are elite TE types that also don’t make sense from a personnel perspective early but dang I think they’re going to both be top 10 TEs in the league fast.

Omarion Hampton RB is another prospect that I think is so special I struggle to not want him coming to GB…we have no need to use high draft capital on a RB….shoot I’m the never use high draft capital type of guy but he might be my favorite RB there’s been (only one close I recall is Bijan)

Walter Nolen to some fit this thread…not at all a spot we don’t have bodies…and really we need a 1 tech/NT type but I think Walter Nolen is destined to be SPECIAL.

Emmanwori put up some huge stats in the combine. They estimate he could become a solid starter in a couple of years. This might be exactly what the doctor ordered for the "next man up" theory when it comes time for future contract negotiations with existing players. At 6-3, 220# he's faster than one would expect. He ran a 4.38-40. It shows his range, and at that size, he can handle the taller WRs we're starting to see out there. Nobody's going to stiff-arm him off a play.

Xavier Watts is a somewhat bigger back, but not the size of Emmanwori. About 200#. He runs about a 4.49-40. A little slower, but from what I've read about him, he has good instincts, and even if his measurables aren't overly impressive, people believe he's going to end up a starter for someone in the NFL. They won't make it past late day 2 I'd guess. Emmanmori will be the first of the two to go, in my opinion. If they do drop to day 3, they will two of the first ones picked out of the gate.

Tyler Warren is a huge catch. I don't think he'd even make it down to the Packer pick in the first round. He could be that good in my opinion. I'm not alone on that. He has some serious chops and he's huge at 6-5 or 6-6, and in the 260# range. He'll probably play in the NFL at about 250#. In some ways, he reminds me of Tucker Kraft. He has that kind of intensity and loves the game just like Tucker. Coleston Loveland could go in the first round, at the latest, I'm guessing early 2nd. After Warren comes off the board, anyone in need of a potential franchise TE will be looking at Loveland as a potential pick to fill that spot. That's why I feel the Packers are blessed having the two TEs we have in-house. Finding guys like this is not as easy as it sounds.

Omarion Hampton is one of the top 3 or 4 RBs in this draft. He has size, relatively decent speed, but there's one drawback in his game. He's an upright runner. You can get away with that in college, but in the pros, he's not going to overpower tacklers like in college. He can be taught to lower his center of gravity, because he already has the core strength and balance. He's going to go pretty quickly to anyone who's looking for a durable RB.

Walter Nolen has been a solid defensive lineman in college, but his upright play is going to get him blown off the ball in the NFL more often than in college. If he is teachable, he could be a solid defensive lineman for a number of years in the right schemes. He's a proven 1-gap player and has the potential to be so much more with the right coaching and attitude. I'm not even going to guess where he's going to go in this draft. I do wonder though if the Packers could be looking at him, or someone like him, on day 2.

Good observations tyni.
