It's looking to me that to get the guys they really want, the Packers are going to have to spend 'crazy money'.

Can confirm Trey Flowers will sign with Lions. Dolphins were also pushing. Deal expected to be worth in range of $17-18M per year

While I am sure Gute is actively working on other FA's today, seems like the only news out of Green Bay are the FA's they haven't signed and the ERFA's they have signed.

When you look at what we paid Matthews, Perry and Cobb these numbers arent all that alarming.

I wasn't expecting Flowers to get that much. Also read that Earl Thomas wants $30M for 2 years.

Resign them immediately!

Every year the market value of the top players goes up, nature of the cap moving up. Obviously, the hope is, if you have to pay top dollar on a new contract, the player gets better or stays the same, then he is considered a "bargain" 2-3 years later. Packer problem, they have had those big contracts go the exact opposite way.

I know a lot of people would love to see a top name signed, but watching the money being handed out to some of those big name players, I am fine with the middle to upper middle younger guys being signed by the Packers. Get them a bit cheaper and hope they get better with age.

Wait a week and grab a couple seasoned vets at lower prices to fill some of the other holes. Yes, I know that is a TT move, but you can't have a roster filled with $12M+/year guys.

Especially when 30 year olds with 2 broken legs are asking for 15mil a year. Someone will pay top dollar and I don't think I'd be mad at NOT spending it.

Ladies and gents, we've found Ted Thompson amongst our midsts.
Which of these would you have been happy with:

1.) 3 year 30 million to Malik Jackson
2.) 4 year 66 million (37 in guarantees) to Trent Brown
3.) 6 year 84 million (45 in guarantees) to Landon Collins
4.) 5 year ~85 million to Trey Flowers
5.) 4 year 54 million (27 in guarantees) to Kwon Alexander
6.) 4 year 36 million to Justin Coleman
7.) 1 year 5.75 million to Danny Amendola

Out of these 7 contracts that were signed today (of which I am aware of), I would say every one of these players were grossly overpaid when based on their production. Trey Flowers was compensated probably the most fairly, but a 4-3 DE would not fit on the Packers roster.

The #Titans are signing S Kenny Vaccaro to a 4-year deal worth $26M with $11.5M in guarantees, source said. The one-year prove-it deal pays off.

Vaccaro to me was mid tier of the available Safeties. Guess we have a high and mid mark, at least on what some teams are willing to pay.

Well in a 3-4 wouldn't Jackson play the same position as Wilkerson, outside next to Clark?

They do have similar frames but Jacksonville ran a base 4-3. Having not followed Jackson's career extensively I'm unsure if he is highly proficient in setting the edge. Granted, given Pettine's penchant for interior pressure, I'm sure he would have found a way to use him. It would have been possibly perfect for a Wide 9 Base 4-3 where Jackson and Clark are inside and Daniels and Wilkerson are outside. Guess we'll never know now.

EDIT - The Broncos ran a Base 4-3 Under when Jackson was drafted before switching to a 3-4 variant. He played defensive end before switching to defensive tackle with the Jags, so he is versatile. However, it appears Jackson will be replacing Jernigan on the interior for the Eagles.

Speaking of Jernigan, I would be quite curious of his market. He could be a Thursday to next week value signing.

I'm not sure if these teams are over valuing the talent or if the fans are undervaluing it? It seems that so many of the guys fans want to sign for X amount of dollars end up signing for a lot more. Crazy money is he way it is going nowadays. With the cap going up players want their cut. I'm not saying values can't be found just that its not likely to be found with the top guys. If you want the top guys you are going to have to pay for them. I'm guessing if we look at all of the "sign this guy for this much money" scenarios in all these posts we will find that the vast majority of the "offers" wouldn't get the deal done.

I wouldn't have liked the Packers to have made any of these moves. I think all were overpaid and for the most part are not guys I would have been interested in other than maybe Collins and i figured he would be way to expensive. There are still a lot of other safeties available and despite what I just said above I hope the prices do come down a bit. I think Collins was probably teh cream of the crop so at least we should have a ceiling.

Its funny how either teams are not concerned about actually speaking with the players or they are doing it behind the leagues back. As I understand teams can contact players agents but they can not speak directly with the players. At least the players can't visit the teams. Also no deals can be agreed to which is why you read all the "expected to" type headlines. For all intents and purposes free agency began today.

Defensive end Trey Flowers has agreed to a five-year deal with Detroit that's expected to average between $16 million and $17 million per year, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Nickel cornerback Justin Coleman is heading to Detroit on a four-year deal worth $36 million, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein and multiple reports. Coleman's deal would be the richest ever for a nickel cornerback.

Nick Foles gets $88M for 4 years from the Jags. One less QB taken in the first round in front of the Packers #12 pick :(

Blake Bortles expected to be released.

if it was going to make sense for a team it would be a team like them, but if their run game goes away they're going to find out they have a back up QB who can throw a fairly accurate jump ball for big plays off run action and not a lot else.
