Dorsett to Seahawks, I almost wonder if the timing means we could have been in discussions with both.

Unrelated news Newton released....I had predicted the Bears were a good landing spot for him...I'm unsure now. Maybe JAX to backup Minshew
My money is he goes to The Chargers.

I doubt it. Wherever Cam goes, he's going to want a 4-5 year deal, and I don't think the Chargers would be interested in anything more than 2. His best bet is the Raiders if they can offload Carr, but I don't think he's generating a lot of buzz himself either.

The Steelers could be a darkhorse candidate if(more like when) they find out Big Ben is washed after that elbow injury.

Either way he's a post draft signing lock for now.

I can’t see a team giving Cam a 4 year deal.

He's going to want a short term deal and a chance to start, so he can re-establish his value and then cash in. A long deal at the price he would warrant this offseason wouldn't be very attractive.

Completely agree. Cam to the Chargers on a 1 year deal makes a ton of sense to me. Jameis Winston is still out there too. Teams who are likely drafting a 1st round qb would make sense if they want to let the guy develop. Dolphins already have Fitzpatrick. Would the Patriots be interested in Cam? Could be an interesting fit

I could see Bill like the idea and concept of what Cam may provide. I bet Cam also couldn't see a better 1 or 2 year prove it deal to maybe cash in once more than going to NE.

I think NE is easily the best fit for Cam. Take a prove it deal with a well run franchise. Put up solid numbers and then try to cash in on a off-season when there are not as many big name free agent qbs. The Chargers are a wild card to me. Would be a solid spot for a qb with two solid wrs, a good young te, and receiving rb.

Even if my team was desperate for a QB, i'd be pretty disappointed if Cam or Winston were even given a chance here.

With our history of picking W/Os in the later rounds lately...I would say don't bother picking them there. Certainly not 3 in a row. I'm not going to complain if we go W/O, I just think the three positions I mentioned are needed more. The new linebacker from Cleveland sounds very interesting; but I think he is going to need a compliment. If Burks can be that guy...great. But we don't have anyone else on the team that can be. imo

The Packers are definitely in need of an upgrade at inside linebacker as well but in my opinion have to address the receiving corps with one of their first picks.

The packers ranked 6th in time of possession and we went 13-3. That’s my point. The top ten teams with the most rush attempts in 2019 had success. The colts and cowboys are the only two teams on that list that didn’t make the playoffs.
Maybe it is an overreaction but the formula works. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t give Rodgers weapons but IMO our O and D lines should be our main priority.

You have to consider that teams playing with a lead run the ball more often to take time off the clock though, therefore resulting in good teams with an increased amount of carries.

If you take a look at rushing attempts in the first half only eight teams in the top 16 didn't make the playoffs.

While the Niners made it to the Super Bowl primarily because of their running game the Packers are built in a different way and will have to rely on their passing game to get it done.

Invest draft capital on a stud RB to split carries with Jones.

The Packers have way more pressing needs than to spend an early round pick on a running back.

Is it just me or has this free agency overall been underwhelming?

In my opinion the Packers are currently a weaker team than at the end of last season. It's way too early to fairly evaluate their offseason at this point though.

It's be a unnecessary shuffle to replace Clark and/or Linsey now. With transitions everywhere else, we need a bit of stability.

I believe that $8 million in cap space is worth more than having stability at center.

You don't get better by getting rid of stars when they're 24 years old.

I mean, yeah, if you replace that REALLY good 24 year old with a couple of merely good players at other positions of need.

Sucks to admit but there are more holes on this team than DT. If the Packers keep him, I will completely understand and applaud the move, I just wonder if he's going to be worth as much as Aaron Donald in defensive impact. Because he's going to have to be with what his contract extension is probably going to cost.

Funchess is interesting, I think I would have been more pumped a year ago. Big question mark now given that he basically took last year off.

I'm pretty sure a broken collarbone isn't really a year off. He'll be a nice 3rd or 4th WR and it will be interesting how MLF uses a WR of his type; no real ability to separate but a massive catch radius.

I'm confused-- why would we assume that Clark is going to get Aaron Donald money?

Aaron Donald got an annual average of 22.5 in 2018 when the ceiling was 177M (13% of the total cap).

Deforest Buckner just got 21, with the new ceiling being 198M (11% of the total cap). So he didn't even get Aaron Donald money.

Clark isn't going to match Buckner's money. He slots in somewhere below him.

He is most likely going to slot in somewhere above Javon Hargrave (13M, 7%) and D.J. Reader (13.25M, 7%).

I would guess that Clark winds up somewhere in the neighborhood of 14-16M annually, 7-8% of the current cap. Which isn't close to Donald money.

The Panthers really screwed over Cam. If they were going to release him, they should've done it earlier.
He's released before the draft, how is that being screwed? It's not like they waited until the day before the opener when his salary would be guaranteed and all teams rosters have been set. and for all he's done to them over the years, I'd say they did pretty well by him.

Hmmm, that’s an interesting analysis Dantes, thanks. I admit I don’t know all the players and their comp as well as you. My gut says it would be a surprise if Clark resigns for anything other than a range of $15 mil to $18 mil/year. For cap’s sake, I hope you’re right. Clark is very good. He’s not Aaron Donald, which tells me you’re probably right. We’ll find out sooner rather than later I think.

Yeah I don’t think Cam was treated unfairly by the Panthers. First of all, it’s a business and he couldn’t produce due to injury and age. Second, almost all of the “running” QBs have a shorter shelf life - RBIII, Vick, Vince Young, and a few others. They do great for 3 to 5 years, and then the pounding adds up. It will happen to Lamar Jackson eventually, although he seems to be a better passer than any of the guys I mentioned.

Back to Cam (and full disclosure, I never much liked the guy - as good as he was, he was a showboat), I think his NFL career is over. He had a good career - an MVP and a trip to the SB. Maybe time to call it a day.

[[fair thought but there are many other variables to account for. Every team tries to establish the run but the bad ones get down and have to resort to passing. We can re-visit those top running teams to see who couldn’t be stopped and imposed their will into the 2nd half.]]

[[Ok but did you watch those games? Give us a decent #2 and I’m not sure the results change. We were utterly dominated in the trenches. It’s hard to throw or run when the Pocket collapses so quickly.]]

[[Are you sure? Isn’t Jones on the last year of his contract? Most people on this board are wanting a WR in the first so bad that they would settle for the 5th one off the board rather than taking Your choice of three possible game changing backs (Swift, Taylor, Dobbins.) BPA always]].

Yeah once they address WR, ILB, OT, and DL - only then can they consider adding a RB in this draft. I don’t mean to push a pending problem to the future, but getting Clark resigned is way more important (my opinion) than getting Jones resigned. And RBs can be had in later rounds. I’ve read a few posts about drafting Jonathan Taylor at #30, and will all due respect, that’s nuts.

No, I get it. I just think most posters on here are so hell bent on a first round receiver that they would rather Settle for the 5th or 6th one off the board Rather than The top RB. To me that’s crazy. I’m for drafting BPA in the first. Hoping for 0 or D line but would be more than willing to pull the trigger on D’Andre Swift or Taylor. Especially if Jones has another good year and another team throws crazy money at him.

I see your point. That’s part of the problem drafting so late in the first round. Even in a draft that is stocked at a position (in this case WR), it’s possible that 5 or 6 guys are taken first. I don’t think it’s wise to take a 2nd or 3rd round talent in the first round just because there is a need. Drafting Taylor under these circumstances, or as you say, BPA, is a reasonable way to address the pick. It certainly does solve a problem.

And we still don’t know what will happen with the glut of WRs still on the FA market. Because the draft is heavy on WRs, the position isn’t in great demand in FA. As the draft gets closer, and FA wears on, and these FAs remain on the market, their price will only go down. So if GB can get a guy like Perriman on the cheap, I’d be all for using #30 on someone other than a WR. And a RB may make sense. And Taylor really upped his receiving skills last year and would be valuable on jet screens, bubble screens, or even out of the slot.

Perriman is the new $8Million NYJet.

The only thing crazier than a 1st round RB would be taking a QB in the 1st round when we've got a future hall of famer starting ; . I'd love for Jonathan Taylor to become a Packer.

If they spend their first round pick on Jonathan Taylor, I quit.

Quit what, you ask? I don't know yet. But believe you me-- I'll quit.
