I saw that. While I would love to have Sanders, I’m in agreement with Gutey that we don’t need to give up those draft resources. A 4th and a 3rd in a WR heavy draft is a steep price IMO. If it was a couple late rounders totally different story. I’d rather use our 4th as leverage to skate the Vikings and get our WR round 1 or 2 (or just stand pat)

Sanders was a Free Agent, it didn't cost the Saints any picks to sign him. I think you are thinking about what it cost San Fran mid 2019 season to trade for him with the Broncos?

As far as just how far in the Packers were with signing Sanders, who knows. However, if even the rumors of any involvement are true, it means Gute is actively looking for a Vet WR.

A good receiving TE fits in pretty much any offense that has one other very good receiver. Packers need receivers on offense.

The tight ends in this offense need to be able to block. Graham never fit and Ebron would have been even worse.

I wonder if Sanders chose NO for location rather than because of money.

Green Bay, WI isn't for everyone.

Apparently the Packers were in on Sanders. I wonder what our offer was. Obviously they have a plan of who they will cut or restructure if they find guys they like.

I think there are fewer questions about the Saints offense and if Sanders wants another ring is probably his best choice. Dallas has a new HC and there is the DAK drama. The Packers are in the second year under a new HC and the receiving corp is not as good as the Saints. The Saints will now have Micheal Thomas (WR), Sanders (WR), Jared Cook (TE), and Alvin Kamara (RB) as a base lineup not counting Taysom Hill. That is a scary offense (at least on paper).

I mean The Saints and The Packers are kinda similar in receiving corp minus prior to the pickup on Sanders, so it was a toss up really. Thomas and Adams basically match one another out. I'll give Cook the edge in TE, but Jones imo is better than Kamara, so it really could've gone either way. I suppose it's a combination of playing in a dome or playing outdoors.

or it just could have been:

Gute: "Emmanuel, we are prepared to pay you $6M/year"

Sanders: "That all? Saints are offering a two-year, $16 million deal worth up to $19 million."

*********insert long silence**********************************

Sanders: "Hello? Anyone there? Hello?"

If Williams isn't being resigned, the Colts just released CB Pierre Desir. He had some injuries last last season that slowed him down. Colts were due to pay him $6.85 M but wanted to take the savings. Pettine worked with him while at Cleveland.

Robby Anderson waiting for a team to get desperate. I wonder if we're that team now losing out on Sanders. Can't fault Sanders for choosing NO, they have a solid roster with less question marks.

Take another FA WR off the board. I know not many here like him, but depending what the Raiders paid Nelson Agholor on his one year deal, I would have been interested in him.

Nelson Agholor couldn't catch coronavirus if he took a 7-day cruise to Venice....

That is debatable.

I was looking into him and came across this.

PFF:
  • 2019: 124th/124
  • 2018: 74th/108
  • 2017: 35th/107
  • 2016: 103rd/104
  • 2015: 101st/101
FO:
  • 2019: 66th/66
  • 2018: 78th/84
  • 2017: 32nd/86
  • 2016: 88th/94
  • 2015: 83rd/88
I am never one to say that player value can be neatly reduced to a grade, but when two separate, reputable outlets both come in this low on him so consistently, it does make a statement.

Good information, thanks. Shows you what desperation can do for posters like me :D

I'm not going to lose sleep over losing him (before and after your information). However with no TE signed (besides Lewis) and as the already short list of FA WR's gets reduced more, I am not encouraged. I have my doubts that just adding a high round rookie is going to be the shot in the arm that the offense really needs for 2020.

The biggest opportunity for the offense to improve was and always has been another year in the system. The talent certainly needs to improve, but a comfort level in the offense has the potential to add more efficiency than any solitary player could on his own.

That said, I have always understood the desire to add weapons to the offense this offseason. But you just can't make them appear when they aren't there. Sanders was one option worth pursuing, but he chose New Orleans.

For all we know, Gutekunst is still trying to work a trade of some kind. Time will tell.

I still think Taylor Gabriel would make some sense, but the lack of interest may have something to do with him missing the final five weeks of the season with a concussion. I don't know his history with regard to that type of injury.

The Rams have reportedly been working hard to find a trade partner for Brandin Cooks. Maybe they give up and cut him? On a lesser deal, he would be a great addition.

I'm not against Gabriel, but I'm biding my time on him if I were Gute. He's a post draft signing. I want him for peanuts. The concussion only further drives down the price.

Cooks is a great option too but I think he's out of our price range. The Cowboys have $10M more than we do to sign him, that probably will be all they need to lure him away. Or Cooks may just prefer Dallas to Green Bay anyways.

Adding a high round rookie WR is a necessary but not sufficient move to the WR problem in GB. Just my opinion, but a veteran must be added in FA. Would love it if they could work out a trade for Cooks, but that’s probably too expensive in terms of cap and other compensation (picks). There are still a number of veteran WRs (Perriman) that would no doubt thrive with Rodgers, although they just have to be above average, ready to go day one. THEN add a WR at #30 or #62 and I’d feel better about the WR group.

I feel like I've made like six of these lists at this point, but there are the remaining guys who I think are really interesting for the Packers:
  • Shelby Harris, iDL, Denver
  • Derek Wolfe, iDL, Denver
  • Nickell Robey-Coleman, CB, Los Angeles
  • Tramon Williams, CB, Green Bay
  • Logan Ryan, CB, Tennessee
  • Josh Bynes, LB, Baltimore
  • Tajae Sharpe, WR, Tennessee
  • Taylor Gabriel, WR, Chicago
  • Rashard Higgins, WR, Cleveland

Cooks is one hit away from his head exploding. He did next to nothing last year after his last concussion. Hard pass for me.

Good to know. Sounds like it’s time for him to retire. Concussions, especially repeated, are nothing to mess with. Seen too many examples of what CTE does.

I like everything about Gabriel except his size - something like 5’7” and 170 lbs. How can a guy like that play out of the slot and not get seriously injured at some point?

He's not an every down player. He fits a role as a deep threat and a screen/gadget player and that's about it.

Unless Overthecap has wrong data OR I'm on crack... the Rams are seriously upside-down on Cooks' contract right now. Trade or cut would leave them with over $20Mil dead money. Cooks is there to stay for the next few years. He's getting paid like a $16Mil/yr player but only playing like a $5Mil/yr guy. :(

How does Dallas have more cap space than us?
