I just watched my lil cuzo get a straight red card at his high school soccer game for telling the ref her call was fing terrible. Which it was there was no debate he simply told her the truth. Should he have been kicked out and forced to sit out the next game too because the ref was embarrassed she did something that was against the rules?

For context, she blew her whistle because my cuz was blantly pushed in the back. She correctly called a foul but since the foul happened inside the box it should have resulted in a penalty kick. She instead picked up the ball and moved it 3 yards back so it was right at the edge of the box. Totally against the rules of soccer

If you touch the ref that is not cool. But anything you say should be fine, words are just words they can hurt people's feelings but can't hurt them physically. I guess unless you are threating the refs life that's not ok either. But you say disrespect is a fine line well could it not be argued that a ref making a be call is disrespecting the player? Also if words are deemed against the rules then that should go both ways I've heard refs swear at players and coaches. So if the player/coach is penalized for it the refs should be too. What comes to mind especially is baseball umpires they say all kinds of stuff and then throw a guy out for talking just like that

Refs abusing the player would get penalized differently and outside the playing field.

For all those criticizing the players, I would also point out that the examples set by parents in the stands has a huge role in how young players behave.

I agree. Coached and managed a junior high program for 3 years. Loved the kids. Despised a good number of the parents.

While you are right in principle, we are talking about grown men here. Lack of respect to officials is unacceptable.

if the referee moved the ball back deliberately while knowing the foul took place inside the box, then yes that is wrong, however the ref may have thought that the foul took place just outside the box, and to be honest most refs will not give a penalty if they're unsure whether in/outside the box. so it may just be a genuine mistake that happened there.

however, your wee cuz should only have received a yellow card for dissent, not a red(unless previously yellow carded). a red card should only be shown if the player verbally abuses the ref, actually swearing at them/calling names/threatening the ref.

arguing with a ref is like arguing with a cop to me, pointless and nothing good is going to come of it. I've been a referee before and parents were bad. It's not as easy as sitting in the stands. sometimes they get them wrong. some are definitely worse than others. and there are systems to try and remove them, but of course that relies upon having other options. Which there usually aren't. Most people would rather ***** from the stands than be the one getting *****ed at.

as for the rest, it's just a reflection of society. Little respect for one self or others and really not a lot of struggle. We need real struggle in this world. It adds perspective to a society that has lost it.

Reminds me of a joke were a football player draw a penalty and the ref moved the ball back 15 yards.
The player got talking trash to the ref and screamed "You Stink."
The ref moved the chains down field another 15 yards and ask: "How do I smell like from here."

While you are right in principle, we are talking about grown men here. Lack of respect to officials is unacceptable.

Lack of skill/accountability in a job that can change outcomes of something these young men have sacrificed their bodies for is also unacceptable. You can't demand that players "care" about the game and not the money and then turn around and tell them to turn off the caring switch. I'm not defending players going overboard and chasing refs while yelling. However, if a ref makes a call and, in the heat of the moment, the player get angry I have no issues with that.

And yes, the parents matter. These grown men learned these behaviors as children/young adults. You don't just hit the age of 21 and forget everything you learned about how to act prior to that date.
