you should at least wait a few weeks until after what this secondary did against the Ram starts to wear off maybe to bring this up again.

Who knows, maybe Jaire hasn't had enough time to be poisoned by Whitt yet.

I dread to think what happens if we end up getting a star player (other than Rodgers) who decides to hold-out similar to the likes of Earl Thomas or Leveon Bell. I am not as worried about losing Montgomery but you trade your best safety in a year where you are fighting for a playoff spot and do not make any moves to improve the team. That sends a very poor message to a fan like me who is hoping to get the most out of Rodgers.

Gotta see the bigger picture IMO. I can't see the Packers topping a wild card game loss as a best scenario this year. Dix doesn't change that. We now have 2 1st, 2 4th, and 2 6th round picks, we'll lose Cobb and Clay's contracts and have a good draft and free agency to look ahead to. This team could be greatly improved by the start of next season. We're in a rebuild, and we just got a little something back by giving up two unhappy players who weren't going to be here next year. It's not like either player was above just average.

To me, there are two basic ways to interpret this trade.

1) The FO does not see this team going the distance with MM and thus wanted to get value out of Haha while they could because they don't plan to resign him.

2) The staff has a plan they like for replacing Haha, and thus the FO was freed up to get value out of a guy they didn't want back.

Dante said "Haha is a strange guy". I cringed watching and listening to him speak and act. Strange guy indeed.

We weren't getting anything back when he left. We signed too many FA's this year to get compensatory picks next year. He'd just be gone
Agreed. The move means one of two things. Either C-D's being a pain in the *** behind closed doors or Gutekunst has come to the conclusion I came to before the season: this is not a championship caliber team. Or both.

So, Williams to safety?

From the Redskins side, they seem to have a very distinct approach to personnel these days.

"If they played for Alabama, we want 'em."

While I really like Gute so far, getting a low level 4th round pick for HHCD makes no sense. He could've let him walk in free agency and picked up a better comp pick. Packers have nobody in the wings able to replace him. Looks like the front office has given up on the season. These two last minute desperatipn trades were both stinkers. A 7th round pick for Ty Montgomery is no different than a free agent so the value there is basically zero. Why not just cut Montgomery or put him on the inactive list for the rest of the season?
A 7th round pick is better than nothing. Tom Brady was a 6th round pick. Are you saying you would have rather the packers cut Montgomery than get even a 7th round pick? That’s crazy.

After some guys in that locker room spoke up and voiced their displeasure with Ty, and after he responded the way that he did, there was absolutely no doubt the Packers had to move on.

I can understand some frustration with the Clinton-Dix trade. But the Montgomery one was a no brainer.

I feel like a broken record this afternoon, but that is really oversimplifying things.

1) To get a compensatory pick that's better than the 15th-21st pick in the 4th round, the Packers would have to get a pick in the 3rd. The guy who leaves has to get a really big contract to merit a 3rd round pick. In this last draft, there were four handed out.

Arizona got one because Calais Campbell got 4/60/30
Houston got one because A.J. Bouye got 5/67.5/26
Denver got one because Russell Okung got 4/53/25
Cincinnati got one because Kevin Zeitler got 5/60/31.5

So the average of the four top contracts that received 3rd round picks comes in at 13.4M. Clinton-Dix is more likely getting a deal in the 8-10M range. So he would probably bring a 4th, maybe a 5th if the market for safeties stays cold, in 2020, if...

2) To get a strong comp. pick for Haha, Gutekunst would have to stay relatively quiet on the open market. If he were to sign a replacement safety or an edge rusher to similar money, or more, Haha would be cancelled out and they wouldn't be in line for said pick. I thought the whole reason Packers fans were excited about Gute is that he will be more active in free agency.

One thing to bear in mind is that Dix was a 2nd team All-Pro in 2016. Thompson didn't look like a fool then.

Good luck to HaHa - thanks for your service. Truthfully, I saw too much of Darren Sharper's style in him.

I stated earlier this season HAHA was trying to get his...he was playing selfish and gambling on ints. He was vacating his responsibility trying to jump and guess routes leaving other guys hung to try. Mainly the corners. When you’ve watched, played, and coach football this long you notice these things. There were several times this season I saw where he didn’t play what the coverage was designed for him to be at...and like clock work guys running wide open in his area. The play where King got “beat” on the touchdown against the Lions made me want to break my tv! HAHA left his zone and ran over and tried to jump what he thought would be a fade route and it was an easy TD for Stafford. Smh stuff like that is why the Packers lose guys and then they go elsewhere and become studs...they aren’t held accountable enough. Glad he’s gone tbh. Breeland or Josh Jones Moving to FS.
Absolutely spot on. They made this move because they wanted to, not because they had to. He is trying to spike his INT totals so he can sign a big contract and then take the money and run. Mark my words...he is going to declare himself "injured" soon after signing, take his bonus and retire. Football is a check for him, he wants to work in Law Enforcement back in Florida.

We gained nothing today gave away dix
Wrong. We got a 4th round pick for a guy we weren't going to re-sign. Personally, I'm sick of watching him whiff on tackles and being consistently out of position.

What I mean is that the likelihood a free agent contributes is the same as a lowly seventh round pick. While some 6th and 7th round picks do occasionally turn out to be stars so do some free agents. The value is basically the same.

Two open roster spots. Wonder who they bring up. I hope there is an all pro safety on our practice squad.
Trevor Davis will be activated of IR to return kicks and be a gunner so that is one spot. The other spot i don't know. Tra Carson could be called up or they could add a DB and have Cobb as the emergency rb.

I don't get why everyone is up in arms.

He was not going to be re-signed. If he was leaving, and his value to this season was not equal to a sb visit, then this is a gem of a 4th Rd pick.

It was something or nothing if they had already decided there was 0% chance we were going to re-sign.

Sounds like that was the case. Smart move to me.

Also, anyone who watched him realizes his "rank" was vastly inflated in recent years not by play but by catching pop fly ints that fell in his lap.

Bye haha.

Packers also add 5.5 million in 2018 cap space that can be rolled over to 2019 by dealing Dix and Montgomery.

It's called Gute piling additional $ and picks and turning over Thompsons Krusty *** roster which needed to be done. We all want to win now but will take longer then a year to fix Thompson's disaster.

How is Darren Sharper these days? He always seemed nice. ;)

He mostly sucked. At football and life.

May be able to move up a few picks in the first next year. That New Orleans pick will be late in the round for sure.

Most likely we will go

OLB
Safety
OL

In that order in the first round, just depends on availability

Haha never seemed to be in position to make a play this year. As long as we don’t start Brice in his place I think this was a good move to get a 4th while we can.
