Don't know why it would.

Apparently Hendricks (?) from Baltimore is going to come in at some point, but that's all I know.

Why wouldn't major changes in coaching effect the Scouts the Packers use? New coaches, new desires for what to look for in players. Complacency? Some what I would call questionable picks in the last 4 drafts. Many factors I guess would make me want to keep tabs on the Scouts if I am Gute.

Frank Pollack is out in Cincinnati. I would be very interested in him. He was an Assistant OL coach with LaFleur under Kubiak, so he has experience in the scheme. He was also the Assistant OL Coach (2013-14) and OL Coach (2015-16) in Dallas during their best years as a dominant unit. He was the OL coach in Cincy in 2018. They went from running for 3.6 YPC in 2017, to 4.7 in 2018.

Is this normal practice? Or does it typically depend on different organizational structures? I would think that if everyone but you in the war room wanted a certain guy, they would go with that guy. In the NBA I know that one guy overrides everyone else frequently.

Thompson made it pretty clear that he was the one in charge of the final decision.

he's got two years left on his contract. so i don't see the Packers parting with him until then. his run of bad luck has to end sometime. maybe he can be that center fielder the Packers need. less tackling involved. sad.

King is definitely not suited to play free safety.

This is exactly why there defense sucks they hold on to players to long I give u 2 years if u didn’t get hurt otherwise move along

It would be extremely tough to build a successful defense by getting rid of rookies after only two years.

King has shown to be a pretty good player when he plays.

King hasn't performed at a high level even when healthy.

I would mostly like a guy who is given a Bortles or an Orton and has them play well. They dont have to be #1, but as and OC he has averaged #22 in 8 years.

Hackett has only been an offensive coordinator in the NFL for five seasons.

Will be interesting to see if the Jags take the $16.5M cap hit and release Bortles. Even after reading the debate on him, I might consider him an upgrade to back up Rodgers if the price is right. I'm sure Hackett will have a good sense if that is a good or bad idea.

Bottles would have to agree to a really cheap deal for me to feel comfortable about that idea.

The Packers aren't retaining quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti.
Not surprising at all. LaFleur definitely wants his own guy and after the situation with Van Pelt, I never got the sense that Rodgers was on board with Cignetti. I'm sure they'll find someone to build some rapport with Rodgers.

It seems like the Packers are holding on to running backs coach Ben Sirmans.

That doesn't come as much of a surprise, nor does it upset me. Will be interesting to see who replaces him and I have to wonder if Rodger's buddy Alex Van Pelt, who is currently the QB coach for the Bengals, will be considered?

Possibly dumb question since I can't find any Bengal's coaching contract details... the Packers still need a QB coach, and Alex Van Pelt still hasn't gotten his coveted OC job anywhere. Why not bring him back to GB where he & AR had a lot of success together?

Unless I'm missing something, the Packers still need to make hires at:
  • QB Coach
  • OL Coach
  • WR Coach
  • Asst. OL Coach
  • DB Coach (or PGC or whatever)
  • LB Coach
  • Def. Asst.
  • ST Coordinator
And there could be more. That's a lot of work left.

Maybe the new guy doesn't feel the need to have 892 assistance like MM did.

Maybe not, but position coaches are pretty much a staple on every NFL staff. DB's, LBer's, OL, QB, etc aren't covered by just the OC or DC. That's just scheme, nuance and technique has to come from somewhere.

Was our coaching staff abnormally large last year?

I count 18 coaches last year altogether, including McCarthy (so ended with 17).

Grabbing some numbers for comparison:
  • Rams: 20
  • Eagles: 23
  • Patriots: 18
  • Vikings: 19
  • Chiefs: 21
Seems like if anything, the staff was a touch on the small side.

Sounds like bringing back Luke Getsy is the top choice for WR Coach-- it's just a question of whether or not he wants to come back.

LaFleur said he’s undecided on if they’ll bring in a QB coach. Though, I wish they would add a pass rush specialist/player development coach like the colts have.

They could likely get by without a true "QB Coach" given that it looks like Jim Hostler is staying. Petals, Hackett, and Hostler will all likely have a hand in working directly with Rodgers. But if there's a talented coach available, what's the downside?

At the moment packers.com shows only LaFluer, Pettine and Hackett. Everybody else not already having left are been fired are under review.

That wouldn't make any sense to me. Maybe Rodgers doesn't need a QB coach, but what about Kizer, Boyle and the other 2 new guys they will no doubt bring in. Its not like we have had a juggernaut of talented backups.
