Probably no one, but at this point, I'd take more enjoyment out of watching a 3rd string QB try rather than pretending Locke is going to do something. I can't remember a QB (Packers or Badgers) that I just absolutely hated watching play more than Locke.

If I'm a skill position player and I even remotely think that Locke is going to be the QB next year, I'm hitting the transfer portal if I'm on the team.

At this rate Fickell will probably be gone too by the end of 2025 season.
As I said in a previous post, I think next QB up is Freshman Mabrey Mettauer. There are a few reasons you don't play him.

First, maybe he just isn't ready. So playing him might hurt his growth more than help it.

Second, I am guessing they don't want to burn his redshirt. I can't tell you where that stands. I know he has played a bit, but I don't know how much or where the threshold currently is, that he loses the redshirt.

Finally, like I previously said, I doubt he is ready to start. Van **** and Locke got a ton of the preseason snaps. Once VD went down, I would guess that MM got a lot more practice snaps, but I don't even know how much practice they get in season.

I don't think Locke would be starting, if he wasn't their best option. Yes, he isn't any good, but he is 1 of 11 players on the offense, that I feel all need to get better.

Locke is there #2 QB. If Love went down, followed by Willis, how good do you think the Packers would be?

I understand all the hand wringing over how poorly Locke has played, but maybe outside of Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama, who has a 3rd string QB that will be a solid starter?

I think we're going to see a team less intent on passing, and more intent on moving the ball on the ground. That said, the passing game should automatically improve, regardless of who's under center. It will open up those short routes that are well covered when you're too inclined to use the passing game.

I have a hunch this could have a surprise ending. The Badgers aren't going to be nearly as predictable as they were under Longo. I expect we'll see a lot more of our RB depth being used this week.

Next question. Can the Badgers win this one? Yes. I think they have a lot better chance now than they did playing under the Longo game planning. They just couldn't live up to being a passing team.

Not with Locke, that is 100% correct. Even Van **** was having issues with the passing game. That was my issue with Longo, he didn't adapt his coaching to the players he had. I think he came into Wisconsin with this label of being a coach that ran the "air raid offense" and maybe he just tried to live up to that label too much and couldn't.

I want Locke replaced - maybe. But, I'm also going to look at certain facts before I go out on a limb, and say it's time to do it now. It might not have been as much him, as it was the Longo definition of what he was supposed to do.

First of all, Locke was playing within a system that Longo forced on him, not a system that he was comfortable playing in.The Rockwall high school football team runs a pro style offense, and Braedyn Locke, just like his brother Landyn, are adept in that system. Landyn, by the way, is a Wisconsin 2025 commit to play QB as well.

I have a hunch, over the next few games, we're going to see the system they should be using employed. It might be the difference of night and day, when it happens. Personally, I do believe that that could make the difference in the entire offense, and I think Fick realized that himself, and it's why he pulled the trigger in sending Longo packing.

Give it a chance. Watch and see what happens. We could all be pleasantly surprised. At this point, it's hard to say to be honest.

Right, but with who?

Unless I am missing something/someone, the Badgers have 3 freshman QB's behind Locke.

The only 1 with actual game experience (in college) is Mabrey Mettauer. He came in for mop up duty against Purdue, threw 1 pass, for 2 yards.

Otherwise, they have RS Freshman Cole LaCrue and true freshman Milos Spasojevic.

Mabrey would be the next man up, but the only reason I would want to see him play is if it was for next season. However, I also want to see the Badgers win 1 of their last 2 to become Bowl eligible. That gives them more practice time and another game, to improve for 2025. Sadly, their best chance to do that, is with Locke.

I get people wanting a change at QB, but come on guys, who?

Exactly the point. Mettauer is absolutely not ready to be the QB. He will need at least one more year of learning, now that the system is going to change. But, in the right direction with the system, and Locke could make it through the rest of the year, and actually prove himself capable of running the program.

LaCrue is never going to be the Badger QB. He knows that. He's spending time learning how to play QB, and is a fall back plan in case there are too many injuries, nothing more. I think he'll be playing somewhere else next year, at a lower level, and get a chance to do something with what talent he has. Spasojevic is a reach, and that's about it. He's pretty much using the Badgers as a place to learn, just like LaCrue. I think he'll be gone next year as well.

I watched a couple of Loche's games on TV down here, in HS. He was good, in fact darned good when they run a pro set. But, his brother is a question mark. A super talent, but I have a hunch he's going to change his commit if things don't work out for Braedyn. Kind of a family thing. Mettauer is a super talent, but needs to learn a lot of things. He's a hard runner, but isn't fast, or even close to it. He is a pocket passer, plain and simple. I think his best 40 time in HS was in the 5.6 range in the 40, and that's slower than a snail for the game. But, he's strong, and will probably play at about 6-4, 225/235# range, and be able to break tackles, so not easy to bring down. Kind of like a slower version of Favre, running. I saw him play quite a few times over the years. He was a district offensive player of the year in his sophomore year, and that's in a district that churns out top quality players.

If Locke can't show he's got it the rest of the year, with the new system, they're going to be finding NIL money to slap on the table to lure a top level QB into Madison for next season. They may actually do it anyway. I believe this team is a QB away from being in the top 3 or 4 in this conference, and in the hunt for a conference championship.

I forgot to mention that Landyn Locke is out of action this year. He's missing his senior year, having torn an ACL early in the year. So, he will be coming into Madison probably as an early entry this winter, to start to work out, and get prepared to be part of the team, that is if he stays committed, and the Badgers still want him. We're going to have to wait on that one.

I was listening to a local/state radio show today and basically the consensus was "Locke is the only guy that is ready to play this season."

Their thoughts were Van **** is a possible for next year, if he applies for and is granted another season. Otherwise, they thought that Badger 2025 QB will be a transfer portal guy and/or someone who comes with the new OC, whomever that may be.

Reaffirmed my thoughts. I was at a Badger party watching the game and I can't tell you how many people were saying "this guy stinks, why isn't Fickell putting another QB in?" Well people, because Locke is ALL we have right now.
