Exactly, I understand you wanna build a defense to dominate on 3rd down but you gotta get em to 3rd down first.

Assuming this is not health related, this is exactly why many of us felt that contracts given to Crosby, Starks, Taylor, Perry, etc, were incredibly shortsighted. They were eventually going to require moves like this, and that domino finally fell today.

Latest from Silverstien( just spoke briefly with Sitton);
Sitton says there was no showdown over contract, was prepared to play the season. Sitton;"I have absolutely no hard feelings. They;re comfortable with who they have. They weren't planning on going forward with me."

Wow. Just 'effin wow.

Mods, am I putting this in the right thread?

I have been impressed with Martinez, but unless the Packers make a move, I'm not excited about starting the season with Ryan and Martinez starting and Thomas backing them up. But the day is still young.

We did keep Beniquez Brown didn't we? Hes an ILB. So looks like we are rolling with Blake, Jake, Thomas and Brown?

Our roster is beginning to look like a youth movement.

I look for us to add a veteran DL before this is said and done.

A few things here:

1.) I heard on social media Sitton's release was a personal conduct issue along the lines of Ritchie Incognito. Haven't been able to prove or disprove this.

2.) Cutting Barrington makes sense sadly. The younger guys aren't injury prone, and both play like apes with their ***** on fire.

3.) Cutting Bradford and keeping Thomas makes ZERO sense. I wasn't impressed with Thomas last year (Which is why Ryan ended up starting if I remember right) and Bradford outplayed him this pre-season.

Lol this entire day has been a shitshow. I don't see how anyone can be happy about this especially with TT just loading up the PS with CBs. This was supposed to be our year man. Our middle is going to be soggy, the OL is going to be porous, but PRAISE TED THOMPSON! He saved us $6 mil to extend Bahktiari. Cool, but what about this year? "Oh, no comment." -_-

Jump to conclusions much? Have faith in the process. We'll be fine. Unless you'd rather be in Minnesota or Dallas' position without a starting QB headed into the year, then by all means, jump ship and partake and witness what real misery is.

Yes, but what is going on is not the end of the world. NFL GM's and coaches know what they are doing regardless of what armchair fans think.

No disrespect to you Vrill, but I'm not one for 'blind faith'. Don't care for the move at all.
-Cut your best, most accomplished olineman 8 days before the start of the season
-Couldn't make a trade for him? No sale. This sounds half assed and last minute.
Tough to trust in a system that does unfathonable things like this.

I'd rather be an armchair fan than a sheep that just blindly supports everything the team does. TT could trade Rodgers tomorrow and 75% of this forum would find some excuse to justify it. TT just better hope they make a deep run this season because if the team suffers behind these moves, his time is up, end of story.

I am not going to say I like the move because I like Sitton but there is a reason for this cut. TT's mode of operation has been to hold on to vets too long and sometimes sign them to poor extensions. For TT to move on from one of his guys he would need reasons.

Sounds like some of the fans have a lot "invested" in Sitton as one of their favorite Packers, which is fine. However, I think its a bit premature to say that we'll see a drop off in play along the OL without Sitton. We cut him for a reason. Whether its for money saving purposes, decline in play (hes 30) or something else, is irreverent IMO. What is relevant however is that our FO and staff saw the need to cut him. So I trust the process personally. But hey, each to their own.

And also, TT has never been in the business of holding on to non-QB vets for too long. He certainly never overpays for a vet (which is smart IMO) So in reality, this move doesn't shock me as much as it does some.

Cut your best lineman 8 days before kickoff, and hand the reins to...Taylor or Barclay?
Unless for a personal conduct issue or unreported back issues, there is no good reason for it.
And my reasons are not that of a 'fanboy'.

Also was Sitton really our best lineman last year? I thought that was Lang. Not a huge issue just a question

Then they could of kept him this year, and still had plenty of options for cap room next offseason.
Wonder if the play of Taylor / Barclay ends up hurting the team or Rodgers, and if so, how much support will this move make then?

Yeah, and I dont wanna hear about some youth movement. Everything was in place "this season". Not time to get stubborn over some B.S. if you want a full on "youth movement" then cut Rodgers and start over with Callahan. Geez.

Seahawks fans have there TT pom poms on right now and it's really sad

AJ Hawk says hello :)

Yep, and we saw how that situation went down. Once a player not named a QB hits 30, hes in that gray area of "any given season" his play declines. Just look at what New England does with some of its players at times. They trade and cut starters left and right. There are a couple of recent OL examples via NE thrown in there as well. Hell, even a double digit sack man is a recent example (albeit he was traded), but still. And nobody questions NE's philosophy.

There is a reasons that teams like us and NE stay consistent year in and year out.
