And yes, my main point about releasing Sitton is it simply makes the team worse, how much worse is the question, hopefully not much but it is concerning to me at least.

This is the part I keep thinking about. It makes them worse this year, how much we don't know yet, but it makes them better (cap space wise) for next year. I don't think it was any secret that we weren't going to be able to resign both Lang and Sitton for 2017 and we would need all the cap space we could get to sign other players as well. So if it turns out that the Packers get by without Sitton (he also could have gotten injured this year) in 2016, then this move will some day be viewed as pretty good long range planning by the Packers. Right now though, given who we still have on the OL and that we didn't get anything in exchange, I think most of us view it as a "wtf is going on" move.

What kind of unspent cap increase to we get for him being gone this year?

I believe $5.9m.

I'm certainly not calling this a bad move, but it's surprising. If the young guys step up and do ok, then it's a good move. And having the extra cash next year could come in extremely handy.

You can only roll over 10 mil correct? I think they are 16 mil under now. Can he use that to front someone on an extension?

I have never heard the 10m part. I'd thought it was up to 10%, seeing as how the new CBA requires spending 90% from what I recall.

Well, it gives us the option to more heavily front load one or more of our FA signing's next year.

Yep the key is going to be what we get for that $6m we can now spend... That'll decide how good of a move this is.

just don't give it to bakh....he is not good. He just pushes guys far enough outside for Rodgers to step up in front of them.

Bakh is terrible. Any other team can have that dude after this year. He has been absolutely atrocious from day 1.

Maybe its Hyde they use the cash to resign early? That would make some sense at least.

I wouldn't be opposed to that, just curious what an extension does to expectations and his role. I think he's great on special teams, and does well as a sub safety/CB in a zone support role, or in blitzing/play in box assignments. Can't put him in man against anyone, he's just not built for it. If we can pay him for what he is and keep him in that role, great. Certainly don't wanna pay him like a star. Huge mistake.

Isn't that his job?

Yeah except he's a one trick pony and it doesn't work on anyone that's any good. Good pass rushers absolutely manhandle him. He plays like a ballerina. He knows he's not strong enough so he plays to simply be in their way. The top guys throw him around like he's in middle school.

I'm not seeing that. Or perhaps more accurately, while he may not "excel" at the position, he could prove adequate.

I see it too. Doesn't have the right strength to mix it up one on one with bigger DTs. He's more athletic than strong, which is why he does well at center (picking off the backside running back) and backup left tackle.

Against a NT, he'll have double-team help from the play-side guard about 90% of the time.

I'd rather keep Tretter at Center and move Linsley to guard once he's healthy and proves capable.

Rodgers really helps himself out a ton too with how he feels that pressure and evades it. Many qb's would be eating dirt sandwiches every play with how bakh blocks.

Not only all that but he doesn't get any push or movement in the run game.

Just more reasons here why the whole Sitton thing is a disaster.

Maybe Bulaga moves inside to help with all that? He's never quite had the feet to be on the end. It'll be interesting to see.

Packers have waived RB Brandon Burks, according to a league source. Needed to make a move to create a spot for Jhurell Pressley.

I would certainly hope he is eventually. He has an entire 1 camp under his belt so its really not a fair comparison right now.
Why not compare now. Bahk started as a Rookie and has ever since. Sounds like a fair comparison to me.

That's kind of my hope at this point. Bulaga is a Mahler. Move him to guard and hopefully Spriggs is ready to go. Still, the depth has been affected.
