If Gute is cutting guys to force MMs hand at who he plays, that does not sound like a very good structure or working relationship. It sounds like an epic team collapse in the making.

Maybe MM exerting a new level of responsibility in cutting players? Not very likely either.

Whatever the reasons, it seems like there is a new attitude of little tolerance for bad attitudes/ bad decisions.

Personally, I think it is Gute sending a message to players to not be complacent. Keep your head in the game, work hard, and focus. I think both TT and MM were apt to stick with players and coaches coaches too long. To loyal.
Totally agree with your last paragraph. I think Thompson’s greatest failure was allowing certain coaches to miscast certain players or not tweak schemes to fit the talent and skill available. McCarthy teams adapts and adjusts slowly to circumstances. It’s amazing to me to see the speed of adjustment and adaptability of Paul Chryst and Jim Leonhard compared to the Packer’s staff.

Maybe this was said by someone already and if it was, I apologize. What is getting a bit lost in all these roster moves is the fact that Gute has his finger firmly on a button that he isn't afraid to push. He is showing that under his watch he is not messing around when it comes to marginal talent with diminishing value to the team. If you look at all the moves made in recent weeks, most fans are pointing to "this player did this wrong and it got him cut". When in reality (maybe not with Monty) it was just a better move at the time for the Packers to part ways.

I'm not saying TT was complacent, but he seemed to just let this stuff happen more often than not, feeling it would work itself out and no need to make midseason moves.

The foundation of me saying possibly AR needs an attitude adjustment? Have you watched his demeanor on the field the last few years? Look, he is no questions asked, hands down a great player, but I'm not so sure his attitude is winning a lot of points with the other players. Too often I see this look of "WTF now?" or "WTH are you doing" on his face. The closest thing to a team guy I saw from him this year is when he went over and put his arm around Crosby after his horrific day. Maybe I am wrong and all his teammates love him, but from the outside looking in, I would understand if some are a bit tired of his "woe is me" attitude.
I posed this question to someone else a few weeks ago and never really got a response so I'll ask you.

How is this any different from his demeanor the entire time he's been a starter? And for the sake of argument, lets assume you're correct. How did that stop him from playing the best quarterback I've ever seen played late in 2016? The team won 8 games in a row. How did it stop the team from starting 4-1 last year? The team over that stretch was a combined 12-2.

Rodgers and his demeanor isn't the reason we're losing football games.

It's not much different than with an "I'm the decider" GM in the Thompson mold, which is typical in pro sports except when the owner (or in this case Murphy) weighs in on the big decisions. A typical GM may cut a player or let one walk in free agency because he's targetting a better player or value proposition replacement who's on the bench, available in FA or from the draft board to step in. The coach may not agree with those moves from a "decider" GM. But that's typicially the way sports organizations are run--the GM picks the ingredients and the coach cooks the meal.

Now, if Gutekunst has such power now, which is just a suggestion of something to think about, and he doesn't even listen seriously to what a coach has to say about needs and personnel, that is a mistake. But if there is disagreement, the GM decides in a typical organization.

That's not what makes for an "epic team collapse." Making bad personnel decisions would do that. Besides, this may be an epic team collapse or a semi-collapse in the making already. Time will tell.

If this happens to be case, keep in mind McCarthy has one more year left on his contract. I expect him to be the coach next season. But if this team's performance declines futher into something resembling "collapse", he just might get the axe.

The Decider. Sounds like the next villain on DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

I would guess that most decisions any GM makes come with input from the coach and I would hope that would be the case. Just because a guy has absolute authority doe not mean its a good idea to wield it without consulting the guy who works directly with the players. The input may be more crucial with some players and I am sure there are cases where it is not needed or sought (borderline players and/or serious infractions) but making decisions on who to cut or who to sign without consulting the head coach would be a big mistake and a recipe for eventual disaster if you ask m.

Good observations and you are correct, this isn't really anything new for Rodgers, although I will say it seems worse. Why worse and why isn't it a good thing? Because it has a snowball effect on his and the teams play. As long as he is playing well and the team is wining, you don't see much of this side of Rodgers, its contained. However, when things aren't going his way or the team is loosing, I would contend this negative side of AR comes out and it isn't helping his or the teams play.

Again, I don't see anything out of the norm with Rodgers. If anything he might be showing a little frustration with receivers at times being on a separate page than he's been, and he might be a little frustrated with the knee and how it's preventing him from doing certain things.

But there was a point back in 2016 when the team was playing awful in the midst of that 4 game losing streak that got us in the 4-6 hole where many were making the point you're making right now. Rodgers is showing frustration and he's losing the locker room. Against Tennessee, he escaped from the pocket and ran in for a touchdown when a Tennessee defender leveled him in the endzone, clearly a late hit. The entire offensive unit that was on the field nearly started a war going after their players defending Rodgers.

My point? He may not lead the way that you or some others would like him to lead, but I think it's a mouthful to suggest that his demeanor and attitude is negatively harming the teams ability to win, and the chemistry/cohesiveness in the locker room.

He's raved about a bunch of guys and the contributions they're making. I think some are reaching for stuff that isn't there right now trying to explain why the team is underachieving.

What was the point of signing Kaser for 1 week.

Besides what others said, I believe there are practice squad penalties for not having 53 on the roster each week. He might have been just a quick filling of a slot.

I'm not saying that the only reason the Packers are underachieving is due to Rodgers demeanor, but you and I will just have to disagree on it being a part of the total problem. As long as AR is AR, the Packers will mostly likely win or lose based on his performance on any given Sunday. I just happen to think that most of his team feeds off his energy, negative or positive.

If gute listens to any of that talking head ******** he should be fired today. that stuff is for people that know nothing but want to feel and act like they do. It's daytime drama tv for those who the athletic competition and sport is not enough for. it's garbage 90% of the time.
80% of these athletes listen, bro. They are lying if they say they don’t. Nobody lives under a rock. I’m positive Gute is aware of the black cloud over GB only having 1 SB ..and the all the negative talk.

I don’t care if athletes listen. No front office guy worth a **** is getting information about the state of his organization from a talking head paid to keep people listening to their drivel.

While the moves might work out in the long haul I don't consider the Packers to be a better team than they were two weeks ago.

When you're closer to your enshrinement in Canton than you are to the University of California's 2005 Commencement Ceremony with only one Lombardi Trophy, you might be a bit of a Negative Nancy too. At least Favre had a CHANCE to get more than 1.

I'm not so sure that its lack of Super Bowl rings that is at the top of Rodgers daily frustrations list. No doubt he would love to have 2-10 more SB rings and a few more MVP's, but I doubt that part of it is what is eating at him so strongly that it effects his play on the field. I was referring more to his growing frustration with poor performances by himself or his teammates during a game and the loses that follow. Maybe not having those titles is an underlying part of it, but I am pretty sure on this Sunday, he will be thinking more about winning a game that the Packers should win and if things go South, watch his demeanor.

The lack of titles are the umbrella term. But I would say the biggest underlying cause is that AR knows what this team is capable of and they don't even sniff near that capability. It's one thing if we were operating at 94% efficiency and were getting trounced by the Patriots in the Super Bowl every couple years, it's another to limp to the NFCDG or NFCCG and get upended.

Being aware is not the same as listening or taking the "advice" to heart. I'm sure he is aware that many fans are upset that we only have 1 SB. I'd bet he is upset as well. He is probably also aware that many fans are calling for McCarthy's head but it would be foolish to act on it. This isn't Tom Michaels reacting to fans burning him in effigy after trading away Bo Callahan.
