The best thing about this game is it’s coming after our bye, we should be as healthy and rested as were going to be for the rest of the season and the coaches have had ample time to gameplan, I can see us taking this one. I’m actually a little more worried about the following week vs the Pats. Toughest 2 game stretch in the nfl.

QUOTE="captainWIMM, post: 794681, member: 6794"]Normally I don't like coming up with "what if" scenarios either but Matthews penalty is different as the refs not flagging him for a clean hit on Cousins would have definitely resulted in the Packers winning the game.

I'm not sure that's a great idea as I expect a lot of Packers fans in the stands ;)[/QUOTE]

Californians, especially in L.A., are notorious for leaving early to avoid the gosh-awful traffic they have to contend with.

With our linebacking core the way that it is, how can we stop Todd Gurley off of the edge? I think if we can hold Todd Gurley to less than 100 yards, is the only way we have a legitimate chance in this football game. I just don’t see how we could stop him.

It does start and end with Gurley. He can beat you with the power game at 4 yards a time and if you're not paying attention he'll get you with a 20+ run. If you're paying attention, they'll get you with play action. They're tough to defend, but they're not the first team in the NFL to have that attack. We'd benefit from a power run game, but I'm not that confident in ours.

I will gladly stand corrected if they happened to beat them.. but in all honesty I have a better chance of getting it in with my wife that night vs Green Bay winning ‍♂️
That got a "disagree"? Somebody thinks he has some inside knowledge of your chances with the wife.

That's the kind of thing Oren Burks was drafted to do. The Rams don't use their TEs much with Everett and Higbee having 14 catches on 23 targets. You would expect this game plan to have Burks focused on Gurley. Time to step up.

Is this our stiffest test of the year so far? Absolutely. Will I be a little surprised if we beat them in their house? Yes. As the saying goes "that's why you play the game." We have not played up to our potential very often this season but that doesn't mean Sunday will be a dud. 2 weeks to prepare will help. Having AR12 always helps. I am hopeful we can be close to healthy come kick and if so, I think we have a decent shot of stealing one. Yes, the Rams are all kinds of potent. They are

Cramps. Never rule out cramps my friend! Hahaha. Yeah, he is going to be a handful and for that matter the entire offense is. Goff is playing extremely well right now completing 70% of his throws and it's not like he's dinking and dunking. Cooks is a matchup problem but I think a healthy Jaire can run with him. Woods is one of the most underrated WR in the league. He isn't flashy but the guy produces when given a chance. He could very easily be the Rams Mohammed Sanu in this game and we all know that's not good. This Rams team looks similar to the Seahags of seasons past as they are paying their most important player (QB) beans which allows them flexibility to go out and make a ton of splash signings. The D is really, really stout up front. Sue and Donald get most of the credit and for good reason. Michael Brockers is a guy that can also wreck a gameplan. I do think we can exploit their secondary if we can give AR enough time. They have playmakers in the backend but they gamble a lot. I am very curious to see how Philbin and Mike plan on attacking this unit coming off the bye. I know I am not alone in saying I hope to see some new wrinkles in the offensive attack this week. Get Jimmy involved early and often. Let Tae make plays in space. Utilize AJones as much as possible as he is the most explosive guy in the backfield. We cannot attack this Rams D with the same old same old vanilla flavored recipe. I don't want to default to the old "If you have 12, you have a chance" argument but it's the truth. We will need to force at least one KEY turnover and make some sort of splash play in the ST dept. The margin for error is small but I don't believe for a moment a loss is a foregone conclusion. Play hard, play fast and play to win. G P G !!!

If the Packers rely on Burks to contain Gurley I'm afraid they're screwed.

I don't think any one man can contain Gurley as nobody ever did with Adrian Peterson in his prime.

I think the real key to us winning this game will be not allowing Goff to drop back and chuck deep balls into the hands of one of the Woods, Cooks or Kupp. That's where I'd say we've had our biggest vulnerabilities.

And I don't want to hear about the whole numbers game in that department. It's the fact that every QB from Cousins to Bethard has attacked that area of the defense not afraid to shoot for the big play.

And people wonder what why Pokerbrat and I get real hot about the safeties' play and want Whitt fired.

I was thinking this as well. The good news for the Packers is that Goff doesn't seem to be a threat to do a lot of running himself, that takes a bit of pressure off the LB's. The Packers seem to always have issues with teams that have a duel threat (RB and QB) in the run game. While I am concerned about Gurley, I am more concerned about stopping the pass game and that includes not allowing Gurly to beat us coming out of the backfield. Burks and the safeties are going to have their hands full, if King, Jackson and Alexander can play well, our defense might be able to bend but not break all afternoon.

Lots of pressure on 4 players, all of whom are basically rookies.

Yet the Packers are tied for the 10th fewest big plays (25+ yards) given up in the passing game with 11. The league leaders are tied at nine.

Reading all your comments on this game, one thing will stand out
come Monday morning.
If we lose, we'll completely know the reason and start making adjustments for next year.

The one thing that I'm hoping for is the Packers stay in the game and eliminate a blow-out.

If we lose, we will start making adjustments for next week. I doubt the team throws in the towel if they lose to the Rams but it also might signal to the front office, we aren't as good as we thought we were.

I think most of us hoped that the Packers would forget about last years disastrous season without AR and continue to be the powerhouse they once were. However, they really haven't looked very good all season and Gute has an uphill battle right now with trying to repair a team that has been thinned out by recent draft failures, with too many of those picks being spent on the defense.

Not sure what the rest of this season will bring, but I do see Gute trying to plug some of those obvious holes by once again being very active in Free Agency.

Let's just remember the NFC North is still wide open though, and the Bears, Lions and Vikings hopefully will beat each other up and keep that door open.

I think if the offense just stops fooling around and starts going on a roll as AR's knee starts getting better, this can happen.

Agreed. But we aren't much different than most fan bases right now. "A little of this and a little of that and we are back in it". We have a few key pieces to be successful this season, but we really need a lot of young guys and few of the older guys to really step up their games and stay healthy as well to make any kind of run at a Super Bowl.

Well, using ESPN tackle stats and Football Outsiders snap counts, Burks has managed 1 tackle per 5.8 defensive snaps compared to 7.5 for Martinez.

Having started the season injured, Pettine has been gradually working him in with the following defensive snap %'s for the first 6 weeks, respectively: 0%, 0%, 13%, 34%, 40%, 49%.

If the qualifications are speed to the sidelines and to stay with a back in coverage, who else ya got?

Whitehead is a possibility. Clinton-Dix is at a 100% snap count, Brice at 99.7% and Whitehead at 34.4%, so Pettine has used 3 saftety sets over 1/3 of the time with Whitehead taking a fair amount of the snaps in the box in hybrid ILB mode. Whitehead's highest snap counts were in week 4 (67%) and week 6 (47%) while being inactive in week 5 (questionable-back issue).
