On the other hand you don't understand that the Cowboys winning their division would mean they're already more talented than a 7-9 team.
r i g h t. fyi...they won their division last year. they're already talented. a 7-9 record this year (because of injury, bad luck, or whatever) would just get them another yes "no brainer" pick. why would anyone not care about that? they're one of our chief rivals. i want them drafting near the end of the first round with us...not mid or lower.
i'm done on this subject. :)

The Cowboys lost some talented players this offseason though possibly resulting in them finishing with a 7-9 record because of a lack of talent. Once again, picking in the middle of the first round doesn't guarantee selecting an impact player by any means.

Not necessarily.

The line between a team that is 7-9 and 9-7 is very, very thin.

I watched much of this game and the Cowboys owned the first half last week against the Rams (24-16) and it looked literally like they were gonna walk through the finish line to a 3-1 record. The Cowboys played uninspiring football during the 3rd quarter and got behind. They had 2 opportunities to either tie or win late in Sundays game. A failed 2 point conversion that would've tied the game half way into the 4th quarter and had a final drive needing 6 to win under 2 minutes, which fizzled out on the Rams side of the field. The point is this was not some blowout game nor against an inferior team.
While they may not be looking like an NFC powerhouse, they are also very capable of pulling out a win in Dallas. They lost to Denver at Mile high and the Rams who are both playing Playoff caliber football right now.
At 2-2, the Cowboys opponent record currently stands at 8-8...
At 3-1, the Packers opponent record currently stands at 7-9
We have much in common. We both have room to improve. We both have a long, rich Championship history. We have both had heartbreaking playoff losses during last several years. We both came out this year and lost on the road in humiliating fashion. We both have something to prove in 2017.
I promise you, the Cowboys would like nothing more than to redeem themselves against us after what happened twice in the playoffs during the last 3 years and we better bring our A game Zeke or not

If Elliot has to start his suspension this week, I expect the Packers to win. Losing Elliot would take points off the board and time of possession for the boys. If he plays, it could be another story. Losing o linemen to free agency and retirement hurt the Cowboys offense as well as it finally seems age has caught up the Witten.

Rumors, rumors:

  • Packers RB Ty Montgomery said he has “multiple” broken ribs, but his Week 5 availability will be determined at some point this week.
  • Rob Demovsky mentions that Montgomery is “exploring different ways” to protect his midsection.
  • Adam Schefter, citing a source, reports that Packers WR Davante Adams (concussion) could play in Week 5.
  • Packers RB Jamaal Williams (knee) said he’s “good” and believes he can play Week 5 against the Cowboys. (Packers.com)

I smell smokescreen, aimed right at the Dallas scouting department and coaching staff.

I'm guessing all three will be inactive come Sunday - GB always seems to err on the side of caution. Probably not a bad thing.

I highly doubt the Cowboys finishing with a 9-7 record this season is good enough to win the NFC East.

It was an example, but here, I'll be more specific for you.

The line between a team with a 7-9 record and a 10-6 or even 11-5 record is small.

While the difference might be small between teams finishing with a 11-5 or 7-9 record the overall talent level is the deciding factor being able to win another four games.

Debatable.

Luck plays a larger role than any of us want to realize.

A guy might drop an interception that 9/10 times he catches. A guy might get an interception that 9/10 times he drops.

Games are decided on 3-4 major plays a game, that could go any way. For the most part, everybody is really talented. There are outliers, like Rodgers, like Von Miller, like Julio Jones, but in general, every team is talented. Coaching, skill, talent, they all matter and play a role, but so does luck. We've seen often that a wild card team wins the Super Bowl. Maybe they had bad luck early, maybe the opposite, maybe it's momentum.

Anyways, there's not a lot of difference between a 7-9 team and an 10-6 team. That's the main point.

While it's true that luck sometimes is a deciding factor in a game I believe it balances out over the course of a season resulting in the most talented teams making the playoffs. According to your logic there's not a lot of difference between a 7-9 and a 4-12 team either.

It's team dependent, but yes, that is correct.

You can have a team that has a floor of 3 wins with a ceiling of 6. Or 7 and 11. Just depends on the team.

In general, your bottom dwellers (like Cleveland) have a ton of issues. But your average teams, a lot of their games could go either way. They're closer to being good than being bad. Sometimes you have the opposite.

You have to realize that an average team winning one of the games that could go either way results in another club losing that same contest. In my opinion there's the same amount of franchises that finish around .500 being close to good as there are teams that overachieved.

As RRyder mentioned Joe Thomas (ankle) was the only player not participating in Wednesday's practice at all. Davante Adams (concussion), David Bakhtiari (hamstring), Ahmad Brooks (back), Bryan Bulaga (ankle), Mike Daniels (hip), Davon House (quadricep), Ty Montgomery (ribs) and Nick Perry (hand) were limited participants.

Surprisingly Jamaal Williams was a full participant after reports last week indicated he might miss several weeks with a sprained knee.

Really?

I thought both teams got a win. Or maybe an almost win.

I had no idea that one team would come away with a loss.

Thanks for informing me!

I think the point he's making is that those results tend to even themselves out. All teams have games that are decided by a play or two that they win AND lose. At the end of the day though, you either make the plays, or you don't make the plays. And that's part of being a good football team.

Great job on your part. Maybe there's a chance you realize at some point that there's an equal amount of teams finishing with a record close to .500 that might have had a better record with more luck as there are clubs that benefited from some bounces going their way resulting in them getting an extra win or two along the way.

I usually take a look at opponents forum before a game just to see what the other half thinks....But I've never seen a forum thread as hilarious as this. Must read if you are Packer fan! Amazing! :roflmao:

http://boards.dallascowboys.com/topic/78492-official-packers-cowboys-pre-game-thread/

In just Page 1....

"Not even going to watch. It will be too ugly "

"GB 52 Dallas 10"

"LOSS- if we get to 40-10 Ill be happy..."

"49 to 14 green bay"

"75-14 green bay, Rodgers benched at the end of the 1st for having such a lead. "

"Rodgers licking his chops, probably heading to Cabo for some r & r, don't even need to practice, much less buckle the chin strap. "

"56-10 packers"

"This is gonna be an epic beat down."

And their main hope for a victory seems to be

"Hey, the Cowboys are back to win one lose one type of season, so they win next week! "

Ty Montgomery didn't practice in pads today making it unlikely he will play Sunday at Dallas.

I would be absolutely stunned if Monty played Sunday. One thing for a WR to be playing with cracked ribs like Jordy did, but some of the hits a RB has to take just wouldn't do Monty any good. Also, I wonder how his sickle cell will play into the healing process. While there may be talk about him playing soon, I wouldn't be surprised to see him shut down until after the bye week and have him ready for the Lions and the last half of the season. If one of the young RB's starts averaging over 4 yards a carry and looks decent playing, bringing Monty back too soon isn't a necessity.

It seems Montgomery isn't keen on being sidelined for several weeks though.

Hi Packer's, thought I'd chime in from Cowboy Land. After we were blown out by Denver the
atmosphere has been pretty pessimistic to say the least. As someone mentioned, we had our
chances last Sunday, but in the end couldn't pull off a win, thus we're stuck at 2-2 right now.

A positive note for Dallas, some suspended players are coming back for this game, and perhaps (?)
a few injured players are returning. Offense has struggled early this season, probably both from
losing a guard and a right tackle, and other teams figuring out how to stop our run. Opponents
serving up "stopping the run first" and having Dak make plays (which he isn't) seems to be a
good meal plan for our opponents defense.

We will probably try to establish the run early, unless we get down by 14, then get pass happy.
If the run is working, we will balance with run/pass. Both the run and pass game have been
anemic in my opinion. Nothing like last year. Dak's accuracy is wayyyyy off for some reason??
I have actually said sometimes "who was he throwing to?" , and he wasn't throwing it away.

Our defense is young, and Rodger's may (?) have a field day. This is my worst case scenario. If
Rodger's is on, he can pick us apart. He's just too good. We have the NFL sack leader in
Demarcus Lawrence (7.5 sacks). He's probably get his 2 sacks. We're getting back suspended
DE Irving, who received a few NFL accolades last year. Sean Lee, who is soooo intelligent on the
field, has been out a week with a hammie, hasn't practiced much, but Garret wants him to play
some against your Packer's. We'll see. Usually when Lee is on the field, it bumps up our defense
a notch. Just announced that another defensive starter broke a bone and is having surgery (Tapper).

So summarizing, if we can establish the run early, we have a chance on offense. Otherwise in
my opinion its gonna be a long day. Defensively, just depends on the trenches and getting pressure
on Rodgers. If we can't it may be D-Day part 2.

I am not optimistic about our chances, hate to say it. There is the "revenge factor", and also the
following week is our bye week. I hope its competitive, but, and I don't say this often, I fear the worst.

Green Bay 24 Dallas 14 , hopefully not another Denver nightmare like 42-14????

Hope everyone enjoys the game. If you're headed to Dallas to see it, I've always noticed Dallas fans
are respectful of the visiting team. Should not have any problems. Get there a little early to check out
Jerry World. If you have time go to Dealey Plaza to see JFK museum there in the Texas School Book Depository.
Took my niece there before Dallas was blown out by Carolina on Thanksgiving a couple of years ago.
