First game thread of the year!

How does it get better than this? First game of the year on NBC, Packers/Bears, celebrating 100 years of NFL football. It's almost technically game week since it's a Thursday opener. Eight days is close enough to get the conversation started!

Wooooooo!

This will be our trial by fire for our offense. Now if things go swimmingly as I hope, I see us beating Chicago soundly by at least two possessions. I don't think you can ask Trubisky to keep up with Rodgers in a shootout. The key will be for us to score early, as chances are they will try to do a bit of running to set up the pass. Let's make things hot for Trubisky and see how good he really is. Plus the combination of opening day, and whatnot, I don't think he'll rise to the occasion. Maybe it's because I have more faith in The Packers and our past success in Soldier Field. Hell last year they barely beat us, and we almost won that game had Rodgers not screwed up. I think The Bears are feeling themselves way too much and we give them an L and remind them who the big brother is in the Division as we begin our quest to secure the division.

I expect the defense to be pumped and do very well early. I however expect the offense to stall and look similar to last year (early at least). I 100% expect the first set of downs for us to be as follows:

1st down- run up the middle for 3 yards.
2nd down- pass for 5 yards
3rd down- incomplete pass
*punt*

BOOK IT!

I think if we can keep this low scoring going into the 4th, we have a chance.

It will be our first look at a new coach with his number one Offense and Defense calling the plays. Feels like the first preseason game to me.

Hell yeah! The Bears are going down!

Dude that's playing into Chicago's hands. A low scoring game is the LAST thing we should hope for.

I agree with the guy above me saying this feels like a pre-season game. I trust Rodgers in the clutch more than Mitch. That's why i want it close at the end. I do not think our offense is good enough (YET) to be in a shootout OR to take a commanding lead in week 1 @ CHI with a new coach, new system, and young receiving core. I will say this out of all possibilities, win, lose, or draw; I would be MOST shocked if we were able to get and hold a 2 score lead throughout the game. To me that is the least likely thing that will happen. This offense was a disgrace last season. They have lost my trust. Not my faith in them, but definitely my trust. I hope this season looks different

One of the big question going into this game is:

"Can Rodgers o-line protect him from Khalil Mack, and keep him up-right."

This game is in Chicago and all eyes that ever watched football will be tune in.

Maybe see Al Capone sitting in the stands.........

Sorry guys, but I am a little sceptic of our chances here.

The MLF offense still has to gel together, while Rodgers still has to build up his chemistry with pass catchers not named Adams. Furthermore, Aaron Jones might not be at full strength.

I too am optimistic of our D, and they will keep us in a close game. But in the end, at Soldier Field, I am giving it to the Bears, 20-24.

EDIT: (Which might end up being a blessing in disguise)

Yes we are finally getting to games that count now. One week from tonight and ... Well the jury will start getting a feel for how LaFleur is perceived. I think cautious optimism is warranted as I say. If we win ... Good start. If we lose ... It's a long season folks.

I will say one thing though, I'm ready to pound anti Rodgers fake news fake Packer fans on the head this season. They need to have fire rained down on their heads with no mercy. Because anyone who reads Tyler Dunne or Mike Florio and believes them is stupid.

This is a tough matchup, but I love the setup. It’s a huge game against a top 10 D and a Win would substantiate that we possess a level of comfort in a new Offensive system..right out of the blocks. Either that or our Defense steals the show. Rodgers trademark is proving people wrong when he’s counted out.

In another viewpoint. If I’m a Chicago fan, a loss in the home opener against a team who won 6 games last year? .. that would be absolutely devastating. That would completely silence any Chicago fan for nearly the entire season.

We've seen their offence and defence, I don't think they have seen much of either of ours. There defence is elite though, I predict a normal Bears/Packers game 20-17, 21-14, either way.

I think we're going to run into a defensive buzzsaw in the first half, much like last year. Then figure things out. I will be surprised if we win considering the lack of playing time for our starters in the preseason.

as i've mentioned before...i'm thinking rust, learning-curve, and the chi D, could make this ugly. hope they surprise me.
Yes me also.
One thing we haven’t talked about is our D against their O. GB seems to be much more focused on takeaways. In 3 preseason games alone I’ve seen more guys punching and ripping for the ball than half of last season.
I’m going to predict GB wins turnover battle. Giving Aaron Rodgers (and admittedly a rusty Offense) 1-2 more drives and Chicago 1-2 less drives is the stat line that could pull out a W for GB.
The Chicago D played very dedicated that first game last year. But they seemed to be winded the second half during our comeback. Here’s to a possible repeat of the Hare and the Turtle story.

Lol you're not one of them are you?

Lol just kidding.

It was just one of those offseasons where it just seemed like the narrative of Rodgers running the Green Bay locker room like a mob boss kept on being bumped through these crazy articles repeatedly and there was zero evidence to support it. I could go on and on about the state of sports journalism today which im disgusted with because I truly believe these beat writers care more about making money off of clicks based on who can write the most provocative narrative rather than dealing in facts. I believe they care nothing about facts at all.

I just think Rodgers changing plays at the LOS is nothing that nobody else hasn't done before, just that in the past it worked and for more reasons than one it didn't work last year. So far I haven't seen any sign that he's tried to drag Matt LaFleur in any direction he doesn't want to go, and thus far LaFleur knows he'll be taking a little, not all but a little input from Rodgers as well he should because he is working with a QB whose seen a lot in his time.

They'll probably blame the refs like they always do. I always get a kick swinging by their forums everytime they lose to us. Almost every time they blame the refs.

The Bears are good, but losing Fangio is a big deal for them. Their defense won't be as good.

I'm still not sure we win, but it should be a good game. Trubisky is still a mediocre QB propped up by good coaching.

Supposedly lots of people are saying Chicagos defense even looks better then last year. And supposedly they have descent wide receiver threats this year. Good thing Trubisky isn't all that good. Cept everybody seems to have their best games against the packers defense. I want packers to kick ***. But no starters have really played. Half the defense starters are new. There is a new offensive system. This game is gonna be a struggle for sure. I don't see us winning. But; later in season I do, once pack get exp on both sides of the ball. They should be scary.

The first part of schedule looks tough. Teams with really good defenses.
