HHCD always reminds me of the kid at the playground who wanted to play, but didn't want to get his pants dirty. Maybe part of it was mindset the last year, not wanting to get hurt before a major contract. Unlike some safeties that seem to always be around the ball.

I almost want to see his first game for the Redskins to see if he plays all out or he sits back like he did at Green Bay, thinking he has already earned his 2nd contract.

This. I do not understand the move, at all. Let him finish out the year, sign elsewhere, and get a comp pick. Rodgers is 35, they should have done all of this table pounding and culture changing years ago. What a mess, and what a waste.

Wouldn't have gotten a comp pick because I believe gute plans on using a good portion of the 50 million in cap space to sign some free agents

Think you're missing the point he didn't seem to be a good teammate. The one pick he had that was a break on the ball pick was at Washington this season. And honestly on that one if you watch it I don't think he was even going for the ball he was playing the man not the ball and the ball just happens to hit him in the stomach. I guess the one good thing was he did catch the ball.

I fully understand that a lot of posters seem to like the trade because Clinton-Dix wasn't a good teammate. Honestly I don't care about it as long as the Packers don't have an adequate replacement for him.

In addition the interception vs. Washington was an awesome play from him. You should give credit when it's due.

But then again, Clinton-Dix has been a dreadful tackler this season.

Clinton-Dix has been an average tackler among safeties this season with a total of five missed ones.

As others pointed out, Gutekunst plans to be more active in free agency. The GM knew that he wouldn't get any value for HHCD, so why waste half a season when you might improve your team by giving another guy a chance.

The Packers should have kept HHCD for the rest of the season because they don't have an adequate replacement at a weak position.

I believe what was said was not that he wasn't any good, but that he's not as good as he and his agent probably think he is and the money they will be wanting.

I would have been absolutely fine with the Packers deciding to move on from him next offseason and replace him with either a free agent or an early draft pick.

HaHa was our best safety. There’s no denying that. It was, however, a pretty low bar.

HaHa would occasionally pick up flash plays. But for the last two years, his tackling, his reaction speed, and his effort have been awful. Under Capers, there was some question as to whether part of that was scheme. Not so with Pettine. HaHa is late to routes, tackles poorly, and again, shows poor effort on the field. His talent isn’t so great that we can, or should, put up with that.

We may not be able to replace him this year, but I’m not too worried about replacing him next year.

I'm not arguing Clinton-Dix is an All-Pro by any means but he was definitel the best safety on the Packers roster. It's not that easy replacing him in the middle of the season. It seems fans have already forgotten about the way he stabilized the position after the team started Jennings and McMillian there for way too long. I definitely don't want to see a similar performance at safety anytime soon.

I agree that the Packers should be able to replace him next offseason, I'm worried about this year though.

Watch that Washington pick again haha goes for the player not the ball it's clear as day. He gets lucky and the ball ends up in his hands. He didn't break on the ball and make a clean catch as a nick Collins or Charles woodson would have. And I get it woodson is a Hof and Collins would have been. But I still think being an avg player coupled with a bad selfish teammate isn't worth much. If your an avg player and you're a great unselfish teammate, cool you need some of those on a championship team not every player can be a star. But Dix was not that guy. And the fact remains that he wasn't gonna be on the team in 2019 for financial reasons and no comp pick would be awarded for him because gute is likely to sign some free agents this off season. I guess we will see but I don't expect the defense to be any worse than it was. In fact getting Josh Jackson on the field at corner should make them better. Now if they'd just start using Josh Jones as the nitro lb I think they would be adding two playmakers to their defense

I get it, you want to justify the Packers trading Clinton-Dix by not admitting that he performed at a decent level this season. I'm sorry but not giving him any credit for the interception against Washington is ridiculous though.

No, I'll justify it because Mike Pettine knows a hell of a lot more about his players and what he wants out of them than any of the self-appointed geniuses on here do. It's clear that he didn't want or need C-D. End of story.

The knock on him is that ever since his 16 probowl his work ethic has suffered and he's not putting in the hours. According to team sources he's basically gambling and guessing back there.

I'm starting to worry that Gute is too impulsive with getting rid of players. So far I'd rate his Randall for Kizer trade as an F, and with this Dix trade... We would likely get a 4th or 5th rounder for him just by letting him walk after the season.

I agree it was one of the best plays he's made but I don't agree that it was his intention. I believe he was playing the man not the ball. That's fine we disagree but I don't need to justify the trade. The play of the defense will the rest of the season. Also it's hard to argue getting a 4th round pick for a guy who wasn't gonna be on the team next year is a bad deal. I get you think the defense is gonna be noticibly worse, I don't

There's absolutely no doubt the people working in the Packers front office and on their coaching staff know way more about the game of football than anyone on this forum.

If you use that trying to end an argument around here what's the point of posting???

I'm fine with receiving a fourth round pick in return but worried about not having an adequate replacement on the roster.

This provides great perspective. I forgot Bakh was a 4th he is an absolute monster and a rock.

Don't forget, MVS was a 6th.

I don't know if that stat is raw or contextualized, but in any case it isn't an accurate reflection of how bad Clinton-Dix has been as a tackler this year. I'm not just taking the guy down because he's gone-- I've been saying for weeks that the reason why fan perception and analytics are so far apart on this guy is that he's good in coverage (often off-screen) but he's put a number of brutally bad tackle attempts on tape that are really obvious to viewers.

I'm not arguing Clinton-Dix is great at tackling and PFF (60.9 tackling grade, 35th out of 58 safeties with at least 300 snaps) actually agrees with that take. But he's not one of the worst safeties in that category either but more or less an average one.

I think he's an average one when he's giving his full effort, but that's not what I was seeing this season.

Suffice it to say, my point is that we don't have to try and replace an enforcer on the back end. His cover skills, especially in single high, is what will be the challenge.

I completely agree with this.

I'm afraid that fans who have the impression that Clinton-Dix wasn't any good will soon realize he performed at a higher level than any of them realized.
I think most of us are happy because we at least got something for him. He was not going to be in GB next year and that is pretty obvious. His play has been better this year than last but that's not saying much. People love to point to the INT's this year and rightfully so, I suppose. A couple of those were the definition of "gimmes" via tips and drops. Yes, he still had to make the play and I give him credit for that but I have no doubt the oskies are skewing his performance rankings. Had we kept him I would of been fine yelling at the TV a couple times a game like every game. He makes one play where you say "there's the 2016 HHCD" and the next play it's "ugh." The guy is going to want to get paid and I prefer he get paid elsewhere. He is a good player but I am not losing any sleep over his departure and feel confident MP will get someone in his spot to keep things rolling.

This is where TW38 comes in to play IMO. He has cover skills and a nose for the ball. When he is able to watch the QB he can be a dynamic playmaker and I honestly feel we are going to start seeing more splash plays made in the secondary. Obviously, we need guys like KK, JJ and JA to stay healthy for this to work and secondary health hasn't exactly been a given for years now in GB. FINGERS CROSSED!!

I would have been fine with the Packers letting Clinton-Dix walk away in free agency next season and replace him with another player. But the team will miss him for the rest of this year in m opinion.

BTW the overall performance of the safeties was subpar to begin with therefore keep things rolling shouldn't be the goal for the rest of this season.

Two different players and positions, but one just has to watch the effort that Jaire Alexander puts on the field and that which Dix displayed his last few years in Green Bay, to understand when a player is or isn't putting all he has out on the field. Ha Ha might have the talent and who knows we may see that suddenly appear in Washington, but for whatever reason(s), he seemed to be holding back in Green and Gold. IMO, he probably had his eye on the prize (big contract) and whether it was intentional or subconscious, was playing not to get hurt.

Lets not forget though that it wasn't just Randall for Kizer. The Packers and Browns also swapped 4th and 5th round picks in the draft this year. That, along with already having so many draft selections to begin with, gave Gute the flexibility to be very aggressive.

Regardless of how Kizer turns out, Randall had no place on this team. And he caused problems. We've now seen a pattern of behavior with how Gute is handling problem players. They hit the road. I'm not sure where Randall would have fit anyway with what we currently have in our secondary. Getting value for him was a plus.

Also, if the Packers somehow are able to develop Kizer to the point that maybe we can squeeze a mid round pick out of him, the Packers will have knocked this trade out of the park. And even taking that out of consideration, he's leaps and bounds better than what Hundley provided, IMO.

True but a free safety needs range and needs to be atleast a decent tackler, Tramon was slowish even in his youth and his tackling has always been pretty bad.

Once again, I would rather have Randall and Clinton-Dix starting at safety instead of better locker room chemistry though.
