I agree with what you say however, I am just completely baffled that the guy was not even contacted. It just does not make any sense. And admittedly I am certainly overreacting a bit but man...

We have been horrible at ilb for what 4 Years now? So bad that we moved a premiere olb inside for 2 years?
.

Why was he not contacted?

Dom didn't like him? Rumors of lazy habits? Not smart enough?

Or Ted just didn't care?

What FA's would you suggest the Packers sign to prepare for this scenario?
They could try filling in the holes to make a more complete team.

On another note, Zach Brown ran a 4.4 to my knowledge, and is bigger than Darron Lee, and hasn't had a bad career. I wouldn't be opposed to him coming in and seeing what he's got. I'm not entirely convinced Lee will be a better player, if there's any chance we do snag him in the 1st.

I do understand your theory of how making a more complete team, makes the team better. But making the team "more complete" can mean many different things to different people.

Not sure filling the holes at ILB and TE (if that is what you mean by "making the team more complete") even with two really good FA's would change a whole lot to make the Packers contenders in the event Aaron Rodgers goes down. That theory also assumes that whoever you sign to fill those holes not only stays healthy but plays better then our current players. If you were trying to prepare for a scenario of what happens if Rodgers goes down, I would think you would want to sign a player to back up Rodgers, unless Hundley is your guy.

New signings will usually tend to look like overpays because of the ever-increasing cap. How'd they both play down the stretch last year?
I wouldn't look at players performing their best at the end of their contract years as a good thing.
Last season many wanted TT to sign Brandon Spikes.
He's out of the League now.
People take the most extreme examples to argue with the point that he should dabble in free agency more. We weren't saying that he absolutely should have signed anyone, but we just learned that he didn't even contact the best player in one of our biggest positional needs over the past few years, who coincidentally wanted to play for us.

Who knows, he could have taken the same paycheck that Perry did and provided much more productivity, and filled in a major need. If Perry were on another team, he would scoff at the idea of signing a player like that to anywhere close to $5 million, let alone picking up the phone when he could be watching UDFAs at Wisconsin pro day.

I don't know, which is why I had the original disclaimer of if we win a Superbowl this year, I will never say one negative thing about him again. However, from the outside looking in, it looks like a guy that does not even consider FA outside of resigning his own players and doing that has left this team with some glaring issues at multiple positions.

Unless he hits a homerun on some completely unknow FA ILB, or in the draft, we are going to have the same problem we have had at ILB for years.

You can put a pin it and make eat crow if I am wrong but i guarantee if ILB stays the way it is right now for next season, they are going to be mediocre at beast and more than likely terrible.

A lot of us want to "assume" that he was the best player at ILB, but that is just an assumption. 2016 will tell us more.

let alone picking up the phone when he could be watching UDFAs at Wisconsin pro day.

Other people besides TT are working behind the scenes. TT could also pick up a phone while at the Wisconsin Pro Day its called multi-tasking. Just as Belichick was probably handling things the same way while he was at Alabama's Pro Day on Wednesday. Some GM's are maybe sitting in the teams bank vaults during that time, but just because TT and Belichick were out doing what they do well, scouting talent, doesn't mean they weren't in tune with what was going on in the FA market.

I too am a little upset about the Trevathan signing especially after his comments. Like it was said before, Trev signed for a modest amount of money; at a position of DIRE need. <sad Packer fan today :( >

On a side note: we do not know what is going on behind the scenes of the Packers' front office. Let's wait until the offseason is over before we bring out the pitch forks eh?

So 90% of us knew that TT wasn't going to land a big name FA player. The other 10%? I don't know what to say.

I'm sure that TT knew that he probably wasn't signing one of those Day 1 players. So Patriotplayer90 would rather have TT lock himself inside Lambeau, watching the NFL Network, instead of looking for the next best player to draft? The 90% know that TT is going to focus on the draft. Let's be honest, that is his best skill set. Why get angry that he was focusing on doing what he does best? I'm sure that his Pro Player Personnel department was monitoring everything that needed to be monitored....and Russ Ball would negotiate any contract negotiations.

Let the Wisconsin Pro Day thing go. It's meaningless.

So does the timing of this threads reawakening (after almost 1 1/2 months of quiet) correspond to Trevathan's comments? Or was the pot just simmering to see what TT did in the first few days of the FA period?

As much as I want an upgrade at ILB, not signing Trevathan isn't the end of the world.
Next year I gotta remember to lock this thread for a month starting a week before free agency and the draft start.

That was part of my joke in reference to how valuable he would view Perry if he were a free agent moving on from another team.

I think a good GM should be good in all aspects, or at least great in one. Yes, we could have some moron that brings in a rotation of overpaid FAs, or we could have a guy who not only drafts well, but brings in quality FAs.
Especially after we sign Erickson and McEvoy to UDFA contracts and possibly draft Schobert (mid to late round) :coffee:
If we don't get Erickson, NE certainly will.

Crosby is a mediocre kicker that Thompson significantly overpaid for. Perry's deal doesn't look like a bargain either.

They said we would be shocked, yet it's par for the course. Making average players rich and giving them unlimited opportunities because it would be inconvenient and damaging to his reputation not to.

Why? Trevathan has never been in any kind of off the field trouble, and his coaches in Denver have raved about his work ethic. What in the world can we possibly invent as a reason why a position coach would have the gall to say 'no way' to his GM to someone like that with no known issues who fills an enormous roster weakness?

I think we try too hard at times grasping at straws finding excuses for Ted's ways. It's possible that one of our position coaches has a nephew that grew up with Trevathan who saw him beat up a kitten once and told Ted to stay away. It's possible that Ted DID call Danny's agent and his agent couldn't find a pen, got another call right away, and forgot what Ted said.

It's way, way more likely than either of these that Ted just didn't do his due diligence.

Is it reasonable that TT didn't find him worth $7 million? Sure. Is he better than any of our ILBs? Absolutely. At least give the guy a call, maybe they could have made a deal. He's paid his own crappy draft selections more than they were worth before.

Yeah. He actually only got $6M a year which I thought was a really reasonable and feasible contract for us to do.

It blows me away that we don't bat an eye to give Perry $5M but we could have had a huge upgrade at ILB for $6M and we don't even kick the tires.
