Demovsky's 7/30 blog post:Why? He get a parking ticket or something.
I saw him go 0 for 3 on Sunday. Not sure how many other attempts i didnt see, i was watching other stuff. Maybe it was hiking/holder practice and he was purposely shanking them. But he was missing by 5 - 10 yds at about 30 yds.Demovsky's . . . While he remains out with a calf injury, Sam Ficken missed another kick – this one from 45 yards wide right – in four attempts. Tuesday's four kicks were the first against a live rush. Ficken is now 11-of-14 so far in camp. ...
Demovsky's 7/30 blog post:
Packers training camp practice No. 5 news and notes ... 1) If Tuesday was your first day at practice, you probably walked away thinking new coach Matt LaFleur's offense is a disaster. Fumbled snaps, unblocked pass rushers, missed throws and one terrible turnover to end the one-hour-and-50 full pads practice made for a terrible day. "I think it's part of training camp," LaFleur said. "Some days the defense wins, some days the offense wins. Overall, we have to operate with more urgency, just in and out of the huddle." … 1a) The final straw came when Jaire Alexander stripped Davante Adams after he caught slant from Aaron Rodgers, and Blake Martinez recovered the fumble. It was the first play of a third-down period, and LaFleur yanked the No. 1 offense off the field immediately. "That's what happens in a game -- you fumble, you're off," LaFleur said. ... 1b) LaFleur was clearly not happy with the intensity of the practice. It's the first time the new coach has been openly critical of his team, saying "I just don't like the sloppiness in terms of you can always control your effort. Some of the other stuff is out of your control, but you can control your effort, you can control pre-snap penalties, the communication, leaving a guy uncovered, the quarterback-center exchange, it just needs to be better." … 1c) It wasn't just the offense, either. When asked about a long run by Aaron Jones, LaFleur said: "Our defense has to do a better job making sure those holes are not there. Because you cannot give up gashes in the run game." … 2) David Bakhtiari lost only one rep in the 1-on-1 pass rushing in all of the 2018 training camp, which made it stunning to see the All-Pro left tackle get beat on back-to-back reps on Tuesday. But Za'Darius Smith got him on a couple of quick inside moves. "I kind of forgot what it felt like to lose so I kind of wanted to lose two in a row to see how I respond for the rest of practice," said Bakhtiari, who is 2-2 against Smith in camp so far. … 2a) Smith wasn't the only impressive defensive player in the 1-on-1 drill: Dean Lowry twice beat starting RG Billy Turner and Kenny Clark split a pair of reps with starting LG Lane Taylor. However, Preston Smith got nowhere in two reps against starting RT Bryan Bulaga. ... 3) Veteran Mason Crosby may be winning the kicking competition by doing nothing. While he remains out with a calf injury, Sam Ficken missed another kick – this one from 45 yards wide right – in four attempts. Tuesday's four kicks were the first against a live rush. Ficken is now 11-of-14 so far in camp. ... 4) The tackling donuts returned to practice. The Packers had not used them during the first four days of practice but defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said: "You never know what kind of tackling team you're going to have until you get to the games, but I'd be surprised if we're not pretty good at it." ... 5) This hardly fits into the breaking news category, but it sounds like Aaron Rodgers won't play in the preseason opener against the Texans on Aug. 8, especially if Rodgers gets enough quality work in the joint practices with Houston on Aug. 5-6. "Hopefully we get enough good work within those practices to maybe rest him that first preseason game," LaFleur said. Rodgers played exactly 7 snaps all of last preseason. 6) There were no new injuries to report, and the same seven players remained out from the previous practice.

This year I feel like I'm gonna be more concerned about the offense rather than the defense.

Posting Articles:
There has been a number of occasions where a user wants to post an article from another site. We are completely IN FAVOR of posting articles from another since that creates a good discussion on this site. However, there are some guidelines that need to be followed.
The most basic concept when posting articles from another site is to NOT copy the entire article and post it on this site. Ideally, you would ONLY be copying the first couple of paragraphs with a link back to the original article. Link should be clearly visible. Also, you should wrap those couple of paragraphs in a quote tag.
To readers:
I did not post the link to the Demovsky notes from 7/30/19 quoted above because it is from his blog-like postings at espn.com which will roll down the page and eventually into the ether.
As many are aware, Demovsky is a former local beat writer who moved to ESPN as their primary Packer reporter and is one of the best sources of Packer news and analysis. In the future, go here:

Wouldn’t that be a nice change! It would not surprise me if The Pack did make the playoffs it would be on the backs of the Defense.
Yes. This doesn’t surprise me either. We haven’t really seen enough of him in O to make a judgement one way or another. But what he has been obligated to do (returns and gunner) he’s done well. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.. it’s basically his 3rd year (due to injury last year) and that’s precisely when many players make that leap. Not to mention both him and G Mo had a good start to last season before succumbing to injury.trevor davis has had an exceptional week (as a wr) it seems. whodathunkit? he'll definitely make the 53 but may actually have a presence in the wr room.

I think the defense will definitely be asked to carry the load to a certain degree in the first half of the season while the offense finds its rhythm. With Rodgers at QB, the transition period shouldn't take a full season, but I wouldn't expect it to be clicking on all cylinders starting week 1.It would not surprise me if The Pack did make the playoffs it would be on the backs of the Defense.

It definitely sounds like he's due to have a breakout year. Which is funny because if he does this definitely feels like Devante Adams all over again b/c he struggled in his early seasons and emerged as a bonafide stud. And SHOULD Davis emerge this is exactly why I said it's too early for people to give up on King and call him a bust.trevor davis has had an exceptional week (as a wr) it seems. whodathunkit? he'll definitely make the 53 but may actually have a presence in the wr room.
King just needs to stay healthy and he'll be fine. Problem is, that's far from a given. It definitely sounds like he's due to have a breakout year. Adams looked promising in his rookie year. In year two he was gimped up with a bum ankle, I believe it was, and was visibly limping around the field. In year three he took off and has proven to be durable.I don't think there is much comparison between Adams' early struggles and Davis'. Adams looked decent from the start if I recall he just had a problem holding on to the ball. Davis has had 3 years and can't get on the field.
I guess if he does break out I won't be real surprised becasue it does take some guys a while to get it but I won't be surprised if he doesn't either.
Never said he did. I stated the exact opposite, so not sure if that was intended fit another poster”Davis didn't play a single snap on offense last season.
he was in the rodgers dog house too..."still catching with his body." maybe an enlightening and new coaches have flipped a switch for him. i'd still put him at, or near, the bottom of the wr hierarchy but in the new O he may actually see the field.I have seen Davis make a couple of good catches and I have seen him drop some. I think the drops put him in McCarthy's dog house and maybe he did not have the opportunities he could have had. I just don't have confidence that the previous coaching staff always made correct personnel decisions. Gonna have to see the difference with the new staff on those things. But dropping balls is a reason not to keep a receiver. That does not usually make big improvements with time. Now I thought that Sterling Sharpe sometimes dropped balls. But he was so good you don't hold that against him.
Good comeback on the comment about Davis not playing a WR snap last years. You didn’t say that.Yes. This doesn’t surprise me either. We haven’t really seen enough of him in O to make a judgement one way or another. But what he has been obligated to do (returns and gunner) he’s done well. We’re letting the kid at least have an opportunity to prove himself and... what do ya know.
