JJ Watt has made it publicly clear that he wants out of Houston and wants to finish his career with a contender. an anonymous NFL executive guarantees he's traded by March. yes he's in decline he'll be 32 in March, but definitely worth considering.

That is great, but considering his age, injury history and the fact that he will be due $17.5M on the final year of his contract, during a greatly reduced cap year, I will be surprised if they get much in a trade for him. I would love to seem him finish his career in Green Bay, but as a FA signing and on a mostly incentive laden contract.

Oh they'd definitely have to redo his contract. But even in decline and not playing full-time he could still be a big play guy and a difference maker here.

I would never trade for that contract. He's not heading the right direction. All those injuries and surgeries are going to add up quickly. Redoing a contract is just giving them more up front to spread it out over the long term. If it's a player you plan on keeping for a while, like a QB, it may be worth the risk. Doing it for a player that is likely going to be a FA because nobody is going to trade picks or players for the opportunity to pay him 17 million bucks and have the odds stacked against the he gives them a full season, let alone 2 or 3.

The hope is here for the reasons you've mentioned that the Texans just give him his release. It's believed that they will not stand in his way and will grant his wish to leave after the season. Born and raised here, having went to college at Wisconsin and growing up a big Packers fan, maybe something favorable as compared to other teams offers could be worked out.

Dalvin Thomlinson would of been a really good move but it was probably sane situation as Fuller. Giants like the Texans think they will get a 3rd round comp pick and the Packers offered no higher than a 4th...both would of really helped the team no question there
I don’t see any way that Tomlinson gets a high enough contract to get a 3rd round pick. He’s a run stuffer with 5.5 career sacks. He’s good at what he does, but those kind of guys haven’t been getting high $$$ contracts.

Tip top run stuffers on the DL max out around 10M/season. I have no idea what that will look like in the weird COVID cap year.

A 10M/season contract would likely merit a 4th round pick if there was no corresponding signing by the Giants. But it's also very possible that he could come in lower and they could end up with a 5th.

Sorry I have to disagree here. JJ Watt in his prime and I`d say yes without a doubt. I loved watching the guy play, and in his prime awesome, but we`d be very lucky to get the production for the dollar we`d need to spend. Graham and Bennett cost us and didn`t live up to the hype. JMHO of course.

Watt's contract doesn't include any guarantees for the 2021 season. The Packers could trade for him and if he agrees restructure his contract with him taking a pay cut without any negative implications on the team's salary cap.

Of course it's questionable he would agree to such a move.

Shall we continue where we left off? Brandin Cooks or OBJ anyone?

There isn't enough space for either I wouldn't think to even make it feasible. Similar to how we couldn't move on Gillmore unless cut.

Untouchable if I'm a GM elsewhere given back surgery and grossly too unknown. At best you're talking a Day 3 pick, but probably only if they know they can rework his contract because that also is a nightmare for anyone.

Yeah I agree with you Bill JJ has too many miles on him, and remember what happened with CMII?. Edge LBs and DEs play lights-out in their prime, usually up to about age 30, 31, and then start to slow down. Injury and Father Time take a toll. Graham and Bennet are good examples where GB paid a fortune for next to nothing. FA deals or trades work out if the target is a lot younger.

Yeah I only say that cuz I just think there is more goin on than just his injury I don’t think there is gonna be any moves at all but they need more players the toughest part of the schedule is on the horizon and they are hurtin.. however if Odell some how got here in whatever way possible I think that would be nice.. with no money bout a .01 percent chance of that happening lol

Tell Aaron you will bring in a WR, but he needs to sign an extension to alleviate the cap number than trade Love.
Trade love to the Steelers Ben’s done after this year i don’t wanna hear anymore talk of Rodgers going there

But realistically there is no trades that will/can happen that makes Green Bay better

Love is our #2 right now. And probably not too expensive. Can't see trading him.

They could of made gilmore work but obviously it would have ment pushing more money into future years on other guys contracts

"The Green Bay Packers were reportedly the preferred destination of new Carolina Panthers cornerback Stephon Gilmore, but the Panthers were able to step up and take on Gilmore’s full $5.8 remaining 2021 compensation."

Going all in.. would be making moves like this. If you dont wanna push the money offer a higher draft pick

Offering a higher draft pick as you concluded with would do zero for the fiscal factors.

I think all this Denver talk is a smoke screen...and Pittsburgh is not at all out of the picture for 12 and 17 to end up there. I'd say it is almost a 50/50 chance if we do not bring the trophy back where it belongs. Bill is too tired to respond...thats why the NFL plays at the Spurs stadium. lol

Can anyone give me a sound financial analysis of how much of a cap hit we would take this year if we traded for Xavien Howard, Brandin Cooks or OBJ? (And hence if any of these players would be doable given that we are signing Mercilus)
