Tracking playoff positioning

It’s always the truth that digs under our skin the most. GB fumbles too much in recent cold weather, playoff caliber games. Disagreeing with that fact (or sidestepping by agreeing with a completely different argument) doesn’t make your opinion override the truth.

While it's true that the Packers have fumbled more than their opponents in recent playoff games solely focusing on it to explain them having lost those games is far from the truth as well.

Would be pretty cool if both teams in the lion Packer game controlled their own destiny. Don't know if it is even possible and do know it is highly unlikely in any case.

While there's a small chance the winner of the Packers vs Lions game is guaranteed a playoff spot entering the game it's close to being non-existing.

With the Lions at 6-7 and the Packers at 5-8, assuming both teams were to win out a head-to-head victory would put them tied on record at 9-8. And in this event as far as I've seen it play out the tiebreaker would come down to strength of victory and/or strength of schedule which is of course out of our hands.

But I suppose in theory there does exist a scenario in which the Lions lose another of their next three games (Jets, Panthers, Bears). In this case (assuming we continue winning) both teams would enter the final week of the season at 8-8. In that event I think the Lions would more or less be in the same boat as us, needing some combination of the Giants/Commanders/Seahawks to lose enough to open up an additional spot. If that all falls that way then the winner of Lions-Packers in Week 18 would be in at 9-8 while the loser would be out at 8-9. That's most likely for the #7 seed although technically I think it is still in some way possible to finish as the #6.

I never made any argument saying that our notable repetitive fumbling in postseason was the only cause to our defeat. I would disagree with that assertion, although it wasn’t from me. It’s possible you mistakenly addressed me as saying that but that another poster said this?? Idk. I simply said we needed to focus on not fumbling in cold weather games. Further I displayed it with proof. Then you backed it by saying we’ve fumbled a high number of times. believe you posted it was like 7 fumbles?? I thank you for scraping up that factual statistic. For myself, it only proves my point even more.

As far as saying I expect perfection? I never once claimed that. I don’t expect total perfection in not fumbling (or any other aspect) relative to our opponents. I would like us to mitigate damage we’ve put ourselves in that causes a higher risk of doing it though.

Seahawks loss helps a bit more now. ASSuming of course GB wins out:

-One more Seahawks Loss
-Either Commanders or Giants to lose last 3 of 4 (so really after this week one to lose 2 of 3 or one to lose 3 of 3)
-One more Lions loss before GB (or win strength of victory over them)

According to FiveThirtyEight the Packers now have a 71% chance of making the playoffs if they win out. Even if the Lions end up tied with them Detroit only has a 14% of securing a spot in the postseason.

You have focused a lot on those fumbles as a reason for the Packers to have lost those games in this thread though. Would I like them to eliminate them? Of course. Do I believe like you the coaching staff doesn't focus on it because it has happened? Hell no.

If you take a closer look at those plays Rodgers is "responsible" for four of those fumbles, three of them while being sacked. In my opinion it's more important to better protect the quarterback in those games than put too much emphasis on other players not fumbling the ball.

I hate to mention it because I like A. Jones so much, but those fumbles on the passes to the flat where really backbreakers. But I blame them almost as much on Rodgers who should have known better than to not throw those balls at his feet. It was so obvious the plays were going to be for losses and Jones was going to get clobbered.

I don't have any problem tossing a ball out to our most dynamic play maker in space, 1 on 1 to make a guy miss and break a big play. Obviously didn't happen but i'm giving a guy like AJones a chance in that situation.

Giants vs Commanders is a guaranteed loss for one of them (hopefully lol)

And then next weeks games are:

Chiefs/Seahawks
Vikings/Giants
49ers/Commanders

A great chance for all 3 teams to lose in week 16. All 3 are on the road as well.

Just to let you know this is Not a good look here, you’ve kept a simple post in flux over self pride. I’ve had X girlfriends that bickered over less and that’s being very honest. Lol
There’s a 1970’s movie called “midnight run”. You remind me perfectly of an eloquent role played by Charles Groden on that Train! Incessant is the word comes to mind.

I’m just going to agree with you Captain that Fumbling at a high level compared to our opponents in playoff games has no real impact and did not impact any games or players and absolutely should never be a concern of our coaching staff.

hate to break it to you, but many of the plays they put in special every week depend on a playmaker to make 1 guys miss. They think about it all the time.

IF the Packers win out and make the playoffs they'll be the #7 seed, playing the #2 seed. More than likely the #2 seed will be the 49'ers, playing the game IN San Fran.

The 49'ers haven't lost since CMC has played for them in October. They're so good, as a team, that they can start their rookie 3rd string QB, a Mr. Irrelevant, and he can not only lead the team to victories but end up with ratings of 134 & 117. No thanks, don't need to be embarrassed by San Fran, again.

Sometimes a play is doomed. The QB should be able to see that and throw the ball in the dirt. Those plays to Jones were doomed. imho

Good stuff.

We have to respect the leagues #1 Defense. Add a Running game and it’s a team built for January ball.

That behind us. Who have the 49ers beat in 2022 that is bonafide contender?
The Dolphins @ SF week 13? Ok big whoopdy doo doo. If we go 9-8 that puts us beating @ Miami at their house. Obviously it’s all hypothetical and today they are clearly the better team. But we’re not talking about today, we’re talking about a Jump into the future scenario and a 5 game Roll after being told to give up (including myself saying it)

SF is NOT an unbeatable team
As bad as our Defense has been. I like our chances IF we win 5 in a row And knock off Rams, Miami, Detroit and MN. Big big IF. Especially if we go in relatively healthy with Lazard, Cobb, Watson, Doubs and have Bak in the mix etc.. we now gotta potential 2023 OROY

I would love to see the Packers play the 9ers. I want to see if there's a different answer to my question.

First of all Jones lost only one fumble over the last three postseason games. I agree the one against the Bucs was a backbreaker but it's absolutely ludicrous to blame Rodgers for it.

I posted that screenshot before but here's the moment Jones caught the ball on that play. There's no defender within seven yards of him!!! I'm sorry but he's the only one to blame for losing the ball in that situation.

sometimes they are, but plays where you can catch, turn and run, are not "doomed" plays. So, I'd disagree they were "doomed"

But there's some that find absolutely every way possible to blame the QB. By pointing out their perception may be skewed it makes you a "Rodgers Lover" and "Apologist" thereby making it easy to dismiss anything you might say.

If Jones can make that guy miss, we're at midfield, worse case scenario. Best has to get by 32 and then has a WR for a blocker for the last defender with his back to the play and it's a TD. Hardly a doomed play.

Why do you always answer posts directed at Captain? It’s almost getting a little creepy.

I’d agree that Aaron Rodgers is historically low in INT %. However I never once mentioned Aaron Rodgers throwing INT. So you are both kinda off point there as you responded to me mentioning players who fumbled. Not 1 was even a QB

GB vs SF49ers Divisional
GB fumbles lost 1
SF fumbles lost 0

GB vs Tampa NFC Championship
GB fumbles lost 1
Tampa fumbles lost 0

GB vs SF49er NFC Championship
GB fumbles lost 1
SF fumbles lost 0

See a pattern here?

Whoever actually believes the Packers are getting into the playoffs in 2022 needs to stop puffing and starting passing to the rest of us
I will only offer this. I Never would’ve expected it either. If GB wins their last 4 they have better than 50%+ chance of a #7 seed. If I have this correct, That % goes up markedly with Giants loss this week and the Giants OR Seattle losing next week.
