Nobody was chanting Jared Goff's name before last season. Love has a lot of the tools. His shortcomings IMO are the kinds of things that a good QB coach should be able to fix.

Gutekunst started off slow, for sure. It is a hard argument to dig in your heals and say that he hasn't improved every season. History is no predictor of future success, but his momentum is going in the right direction.

Who knows. Maybe nobody can get through to Love. Jordan is good, but I think that we all see more in him. He can make all of the throws but doesn't do it consistently. For all of the talk about LaFleur holding the reins tight in the first half of 2023 and then letting go in the second half, it seemed more haphazard this season. It's tough to tell if Matt was still holding onto the reins or had completely let go, because Jordan was a bit all over the place.

However, I'll just say that in general his WRs failed Jordan this season. They made some plays, but they failed to make so many more.

Some of it has to do with receivers just not getting open imho. And that (like McCarthy at the end) is mostly on the coaches imho. And mostly on LaFleur.

Yeah, but nobody was saying that about Stafford or Goff until they got to their current teams. Mahomes and Jackson?? Instant stars as you pointed out. Some QBs need time to marinate or just need to cook low and slow to be awesome. Others need a change of scenery or coaches to reach their full potential.

Believe me I hope you are right and i am wrong. But Love has had 5 years in the system and just doesnt look like there is progress for that time frame given what was around him with coaching and Rodgers. Ill say I hope the injury held him back this year, and we see the results of healthy Love next year. I just think he middle the the pack QB.. his field vision and decision making are very questionable...and that has little to due with an injury. But Im sure rooting for him.

Point is, Love is Green Bay's version of Jay Cutler, nothing more.

Maybe not happy, but at least satisfied with more accurate wording.

Not sure which version of Love is the one we'll see downstream, but you're seriously equating him to Culter? Love with two years as a starter, 18-14 record, two playoffs. Cutler with 12 years, 74-79, one playoff. Seems a little harsh.

I totally agree.

I tore both of my rotator cuffs and partially separated both of my shoulders just prior to my senior season. I still believe that is why I was never recruited by the Badgers - that and my 5'8" 170lb frame probably didn't fit their thoughts about a typical center/nose tackle...

To this day my shoulders still slip to the edge of the socket and then slap back in when I least expect it. The things that we sacrifice for sport and fun in our youth!

A lot of things go into the performance of a player over 17 plus games. I really do think he played hurt most of the season, and that's life in the NFL. He needs to step up more as the leader of that time, and he will.

I'm disappointed as anyone by the early exit. At the same time, there is a lot to look forward to.

That's an aspect too.

He will naturally mature, as most twentysomethings usually do and should do.

His place in life as a franchise NFL QB adds more pressure to him maturing.

Pressure bursts pipes or makes diamonds.

Love's gotta shine next season.

I've been told "no" repeatedly, not that I've asked that often. I'm the kind of guy that gets a million injuries but never anything severe enough for surgery. I guess that I'm lucky??

We are all spoiled by the recency of Rodgers' assent. He was pretty good by the end of his second season and incredible by his third. Favre was wild and erratic his first few seasons. I always remember that he threw 24 INTs when he was 24yrs old! He was still throwing balls over WR heads in his third season but eventually settled down.

Yes Love sat on the shelf so this isn't technically his second season, but he's only played for two. He deserves a longer leash. Fans shouldn't expect another HOF quarterback. We should want one, but not throw out a good QB because he isn't elite.

You could sense Favre's potential though, there were aspects of his game that were spectacular, his arm strength for example. Plus he had Holmgren, who seemed to be the perfect coach for him. Maybe he was the only one who could control him (sometimes). I wonder if Favre might have had another ring if Holmgren had stayed.

Favre's spectacular was offset by his sheer stupidity. Nobody in the history of the NFL has matched his spectacular throws, except for maybe Bradshaw. We all agree that Love has more work to do to be a top quarterback, but one has to really be focusing on the negative to not also see Love's positives.

...and credit where credit is due. Steve Mariucci was Favre's QB coach through 1995, followed by Marty Mornhinweg in 1996, and then Andy Reid. That was a pretty impressive list of guys that helped tamp down all of the bad tendencies and coaxed out the good ones.
