They are going to have to pay quite a few good young players in the coming years or watch them walk.

I thought the same thing, then I went and looked. It's not as many as you'd think. They have some no question (Barr/Kendricks/Diggs in 2019 Rudolph in 2020) but they're in pretty good shape contract wise. Rhodes, Griffen, Joseph, Reiff, Smith, Thielen all under contract through 2021 or 2022. This doesn't include the Cousins deal yet but overthecap has them with a projected $73M in cap space for 2019.

Lol, some really salty and not to smart Packer fans on this board. Cousins is way better than most of you are giving him credit for. Signing him to a team that made it to the NFCCG with Keenum, makes the Vikings even better, period end of story. Saying otherwise really makes you look silly.

To be clear, I am not saying Cousins is in Rodgers, Brees, or Brady territory, but he is absolutely in the tier below.

There are lots of its every year. If someone stays healthy, if, if, if, if.

Jordy had a great season 2 years ago, and was on pace for just as good last year when the QB he has a mind meld with went down and was replaced with a guy that couldn't get the ball to anyone most times. I don't think Jordy just began to suck. he's not in his prime, but he's smart enough and has enough talent to still be very effective. Watkins doesn't have any any less "if's" tagged to him. He's been a 40 catch and 600 yard and a nice YPC guy. 30 million guaranteed he's going to become a 90 catch 1400 yd and 10+TD guy? don't sign me up for those if's, at least Jordy has earned his contract.

"Earned" being the key word, as in past tense. 'Mind melds' aside, no way he's worth a $12M cap hit now, nor will he be again.

I like King, but i'm worried about King. He had shoulder problems before, he had shoulder problems for us. 2 dislocations I think in college and then injured his first season in the pros. He's a press man guy, and you can't do that with 1 arm. It showed that year with Tramon and it showed with King last year. I really hope that is taken care of, or he'll never amount to much of anything for us.

Well, King finally had the surgery he needed, so hopefully his shoulder won't be an issue anymore.

Cousins to Minny, 3 yrs, $84M, reportedly fully guaranteed.
Figure on $30M a year for Rodgers.

What are the Chiefs doing??? They have just made WR contracts an out of control commodity... 16M/yr for a WR that is averaging less than 50 catches, less than 800 yrds, and less than 6 TDs per year... I can only imagine what other good WR's are thinking and what the superstars are?

I mean, how bad is the Cobb contract really? Free agency is absolutely insane, why any player who has ever played relevant snaps in the NFL at any point wouldn't test it is beyond me.

I think after today and tomorrow, most of the talk about trading or cutting Jordy and or Cobb will be nothing but a fart in the wind. I am as shocked as many are at the money being thrown at WR's right now, I wonder if Davante Adams is having second thoughts about the deal he inked?

Keep our WR's (unless you can trade Cobb for a 1st rounder now because his contract will be looking cheap soon) and draft our next wave of WR's over the next two years... There are some good WR's in this draft that can be gotten even into the 4th and 5th rounds.

Lol, I think I may have witnessed my first cliff jumper of the free agent season.
not even close. just that people *****ing about price don't realize what the market is. the Packers are going to have to pay for upgrades whether people like it or not. and if they don't, it'll just be more of the same. get it?

Everything I have read about Paxton Lynch, the Broncos have all but given up on the guy. Case Keenum was a guy that almost got the hook a few times in Minnesota last year, because he really isn't great. I won't discount that he could improve, but I think the Vikings letting him walk kind of tells you how they feel about that. Somewhere I read a perfect quote about Keenum, it was something like "He was given the keys to the families Ferrari and did everything he could just not to crash it".
didn't say he was great. said he was more than adequate. you don't have to be great to win the SB.

And he's been underpaid in the past too. I do t care if he's worth a 12 million dollar cap hit or not. If everyone is healthy he will again be in that 60-80 catch range 800-1200 yards and 10tds. What do you think Watkins is going to do at 16 million per? That's what this is about

I think you are talking about Cobb and I agree with you that right now, based on the last 2 years, he would not be worth signing right now at a $12M cap hit. However, in reality, he is only an additional $9.5 M cap hit, since $2.5 is dead cap money. Given what the Redskins are reportedly about to pay Paul Richardson, I don't see $9.5 M for Cobb, as being grossly overpaid anymore.

Cousins was the best possible outcome for the Vikes this offseason. It’s gonna be a battle. Hopefully that cap number for a good, not elite QB becomes debilitating at some point. But Spielman/Zimmer are having a great offseason.

People seem to forget that jordy was on pace for gaudy numbers before Rodgers went down

I tend to agree and I think it's about the best move they could have made to go "all in" for 3 years. Considering how close they came with Keenum, this could be the move that puts them over the top, as long as they don't get hit by injuries. I hope Cousins is double checking his health insurance policy. :coffee:

Let the optimism in MIN reach the highest pitch possible before Rodgers gets up in there and burns the whole thing down like Keizer freaking Soze.

In seriousness, the Vikes got good play out of their QB last year so hopefully the net effect of Cousins isn’t massive, but he’s certainly a better player than Keenum.

After free agency and the draft, I can see the Vikings as one of the top 3 teams picked to win the Super Bowl. Really the only players of note that they are losing from last year are Keenum, Bradshaw and maybe Bridgwater and it appears they just fixed that. I hate talking about the Vikings, but with their defense, Cook coming back and now Cousins, they are going to be a tough team to beat. If they get ahold of one more decent WR, look out.

Redskins will never learn. Just gave Paul Richardson a 5 year 40 million dollar deal. He was a receiver for the Seahawks in case you didn't know who he was and don't blame you if you didn't.

Actually, was talking about Nelson, but you could say the same for Cobb.

I'm happy the Vikings signed Cousins. He is not a top 1/2 of the league QB and he's getting paid that much. Go nuts Minnesota, you signed about the 20th best QB in football.
