I don't know - part of me would like him gone now. But another commenter noted that if there were a better returner available, Gluten would have found him. And I suppose it's hard to cut a 3rd rounder loose after a year and 4 games. He just doesn't look like he's going anywhere.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if a change in surroundings made a difference. I'm not dissing the GB establishment or the team, both are very good. I've made job changes in my career, or taken on new assignments that at the time I didn't care for. Some of those changes had an incredibly positive impact. Ya never know what's around the corner because you can't see him.

I do wish him the best. He's too young and too talented to have his dream end now.
Yeah. You’d really like to give him at least 2 seasons to watch for some positive progress. If he’s not showing a marked sign of improvement through this season and into Camp next year, maybe think about parting ways. I think we’d kick ourselves if he got onto another team and pulled a Hyde or Hayward (Defensive Equivalent)

I doubt the Packers are in that big of a hurry to release Amari, after all, he has been paid for the season and there isn't anyone nipping at his heels to replace what he does. Once Watkins is back and if Toure is looking good in practices, if they can find a returner, then they might consider trading, releasing or putting Amari on the PS.

As far as waiting for him to blossom into an NFL WR, I might believe the Packers thought he was on his way to doing that, if he was actually seeing more offensive snaps. Injuries can change things fast on a roster and he could be needed later in the season.

The Packers are only "out" his SB money which was the only guaranteed part of his contract ($923k). There'd be some dead cap $ but also a cap savings somewhere around $600k if cut today. Doubt Gute will cut the cord, but if there's someone else better at returning kicks/punts no reason NOT to try something. Cutting a day 2 pick always stings a little bit, but certainly not unheard of (NE Patriots cut 2 2020 3rd Rnd TE's this year).

There’s personal ties also. If you recall there is a long history with Cobb and Amari’s family. Cobb has known Amari (and his family) since childhood. Just saying that sometimes politics gets in the way, but obviously Cobb has both Rodgers’ ears and this one is personal.

Agreed. Right now he's not gonna get snaps on offense. But it's a long season and Watkins is already out for a while and Lazard has a bum ankle.

That's a good point. But I don't think Gluten gives any weight to the personal connections. Now if Cobb believes in the guy, that's different.

Hayward maybe… but there was nothing surprising about Hyde. He was good when he was here and was simply a free agenc/cap casualty. Like many players, he was able to get more money on the open market than the Packers could or were willing to pay.

True. While he did play good here, he was exceptional there. With Buffalo he went All-Pro and Probowl which he never did in GB.
So the point being, he increased production elsewhere and we were mostly scratching our heads in here if it was our scheme or other reasons they excelled elsewhere. Matter of fact there was an entire weeks long debate in here about it because they both made All-Pro immediately after leaving GB

And didn't Hyde change positions when he left? I think we used him as a corner and he was then used as a safety. Or maybe it's the other way. And yeah, there are cap casualties. I never thought I'd say I missed MVS, but I miss MVS, a cap casualty.

I liked MVS, but he kinda plateaued if you ask me. Now I fully understand WR’s are in demand, but even then I think $10M yearly was too much.

Although he’s being used in a somewhat different capacity. Moreso as a chain mover. He has 8-1st Downs on 13 catches, but only 12.9 yards per catch which is respectable. But a 56% catch rate is lower for shorter passes. Interesting that MVS gotten his career high targets per game in KC. KC gave up a Superstar in Hill for a Pedestrian WR in MVS

I think you’ll see Christian develop into his role and then some and he’s like $3M/season. Be patient Brother, you’ll see by later this season to early next season Watson rise. Am I the only that noticed when Watson scored on that end around that others are chasing him like their hair is on fire and he looks like he’s out jogging with the dog? He didn’t even turn the afterburners on yet. I heard he ran an unofficial time in the high 4.2’s and I believe it.

Apologize Amari. I digress

I hope Watson lives up to his billing. It may be next year given the rise of Doubs, the steadiness of Lazard and Cobb. He's just not gonna get many chances this year other than the occasional jet sweep.

And yeah, MVS was not worth $10 mil/year. I guess patience is a virtue when it comes to the Packers WRs this year (and as long was they keep winning). It doesn't help that Tonyan looks so rusty, but he'll keep getting targets and will hopefully get back in form.

And the Packers can bide their time re: the addition of a veteran WR. The next three games are winnable. But after Thanksgiving, and depending on their record, Gluten may look to add someone.

We'll get a real picture of just how good this team is when they play Buffalo. I don't expect they'll win, but they need to make it competitive.

Amari needs to bring a Kick or Punt across Midfield, that is the only thing he can do in the immediate to mitigate some harsh feelings about using a 3rd Rounder. 1 or 2 big Returns can fix a lot of woes.

I always kinda saw Amari as a smaller version of Ty Montgomery. I’m surprised we haven’t at least tried him in that capacity as our 3rd option in the backfield.

Agree with both points. A few big returns, ideally one for a TD, would calm a lotta nerves.

And I was thinking the same thing - he's Ty Montgomery 2.0. So use him as a third back, especially because Jones and Dillon are being used so much more.

Screw the fans. Their nerves are totally meaningless. Am Rodgers will either improve or he'll be cut and replaced by someone else.

End of story. Just like any other player at any other position in any sport.

Thanks. And yeah, last year STs was a roll of the dice. It's a little better so far. Expect it will continue to improve. Clearly the return game is, IMO, the biggest need.
Yes especially KR.
Another player I’ve seen mentioned to look at for KR is Jonathan “Rudy” Ford. He’s another Speedster and seems to have good thickness to absorb some punishment that can sometimes happen.
