You are probably correct and I may have been a bit generous by labeling the Packers team as being "average" without Rodgers. I guess in my head I was taking into account that if Hundley wasn't so bad, they may have won a few more games and been "average".
Even as bad as Hundley was, no pass catchers besides Davante did anything to make things easier for him.

Rodgers didn't struggle late in 2016 and before getting injured in '17 though.
i didn't say anything about what part of the season he struggled. he finished strong but early to mid-season he did. the o looked sub-standard. it did early 17 too but they managed to get a couple of last second wins to make the record look ok...then disaster hit.

There's no doubt Rodgers struggled early in 2016 but played at an extremely high level over the last nine games of that season as well as before getting injured early in '17.

Therefore you mentioning he has been on a downward spiral over the past three seasons is wrong.

never said downward spiral...i've said "trending down" before. people have been asking questions about the O, and him, for parts of 3 years. heck, you can even throw part of 14 in there. "relax" and "run the table" aren't figments of our imaginations. before both of those edicts the O, and he, were struggling.

The offense has struggled on and off from 2015 on. That's when the lack of talent on offense started to make itself known, and questions about McCarthy's schemes came up more often. To a lot of people, Rodgers and the Packers are one and the same, fair or not.

Although obviously you can throw Rodgers health problems in there too. If the Packers are going to be more successful, Rodgers is going to have to stay relatively healthy for a significant stretch or two.

clearly their troubles as an organization weren't solely on the O. actually the O was the least of their problems...that's not to say the O didn't have issues and the issues weren't all on rodgers.

I'm asking this as a serious question, because I honestly don't know. Is this how all NFL teams operate? Does Belichick consult with Brady? Payton with Brees?
Interesting you should ask that. On the way home from work just tonight I was listening to some coaching/FO interviews. There was an interview with Roseman from the Eagles. One thing that threw me for a loop was he said basically if the GM and the HC and the QB etc.. are all getting along.... watch out! Lol.

There apparently is a healthy amount of checks n balances between various facets of the organization. There is some natural tension because they don’t always agree but yet they also hold one another accountable. Apparently, It’s not supposed to be all roses and sugar sprinkles between team entities like the media would have us believe.

However you phrased it, it was pretty obvious that you mentioned Rodgers having struggled for the better parts of the last three seasons, which is absolutely BS.

Rodgers struggled in 2014 as well??? That's ludicrous considering he put up a 112.2 passer rating and threw for 38 touchdowns and only five interceptions!!!

i didn't say he "struggled" in 2014. he had a great season...but where did "relax" come from? that was 2014...when everyone was standing at his locker wondering what the hell was up when they started 1-2. and i didn't say "better parts." you act like i'm saying he's terrible. he's far from it. i'm saying the struggles/criticisms that began showing up in parts of 2015 returned in parts of every season since, and got worse in 2018. the eye test. use your eyes not the numbers. if you go by numbers rodgers was good last year but we all know what our eyes saw. it's been that way off and on since 2015 but got worse in 2018.

I would say last year based off what we saw it was more noticable. And typically more times than not we are usually in the postseason.

Once again, there's no doubt Rodgers struggled in 2018 but maybe you should relax about his outlook going forward instead of using semantics to not have to admit about being wrong.

They were talking on TV today about the bad year LeBron James is having. Because he had a serious injury for the first time in his career earlier this season and missed a few weeks. And because it doesn't look like the Lakers are going to make the playoffs this year.

It reminded me of Rodgers a bit. Because he's been injured this year and last (year before too, but not as serious). And the Packers have missed the playoffs two years in a row. Of course football isn't basketball, injuries are much more prevalent, and it's more of a team game. But the bottom line is the last few seasons haven't been successful.

For me, it's simple.

Rodgers has had a tough enough time carrying a talent depleted roster the past few seasons when healthy. So when you add a significant knee injury to the mix, along with a roster that's been on the decline for a few seasons, it's no surprise the results that we've seen.

A very interesting article:

http://www.espn.com/blog/green-bay-...ll-can-change-plays-but-audibles-not-abundant

On AR12 changing plays at the line:

It's impossible to know exactly where and when Rodgers changed what McCarthy called, but at one point last season the coach said it happened at a rate between 15 and 20 percent. That was the day after the Packers’ 31-17 loss at New England on Nov. 4. There also has been enough anecdotal evidence to suggest it was both highly prevalent and, at times, problematic.

“It might be more than 20 percent that he’s canning to the other play,” LaFleur said. “We’ll have to see where it goes in terms of giving him freedom to, if he sees something, to totally erase what’s been called and get to something else.”

And then Matt hits the nail on the head:

“I know this: When I talk to him, the guy wants to win. I think he’s at the point of his career where he’s starting to think about his legacy and what he’s going to leave. The only way you can do that is you better win a world championship. That’s the goal. We’re always going to strive for that. I think that’s where he’s at in his career.”

then why the bad contract at this late stage in his career? it's not conducive to winning. both parties F'd up.

While I would have loved to have waited a year on Rodgers new contract, they didn't. Given the market at the time they did enter into the contract, what else would you have expected?

How much different would the contract have been if they were getting it done now, after last season? Probably not that much. So really it comes down to, do you want Aaron Rodgers as your QB or don't you? Trading him before the new contract was signed, could have been an option, but do you think that would have been more conducive to winning?

We haven't played yet, yet already dismissed as a bad contract? I'd rather give him this than pay the likes of Cousins what they earn now.

At least give it a chance before writing off.

If you honestly think we'd be better off without him, I have no words.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it a bad contract. We're going to hang on to Rodgers no matter what the costs.
Whether it's conducive to winning (the big one) is another matter. It may well end up hamstringing us at some point.

Rodgers is 35 years old. That is not that old. Stop making it like he's around Brees/Brady's age. On top of that he's still one of the best QB's in the league.

Not getting sidetracked, seems they have some stats on how many calls AR12 has changed at the line.

At least Matt acknowledges the problem issue and how they are working on fixing it.

Hope flourishes.

You know, until this past season, I can't recall anyone ever complaining before about an issue where a quarterback changed too many plays.

what part of what i said was wrong? it IS a bad contract for the Packers when you bump the rate 10+% on a 35 year old player. it's got a severe impact on the team's cap. that fact alone makes it not conducive to winning. both parties ignored this so yes they both F'd up.
