Dillon was punishing and anytime they have a 4th and 1 give him the ball on that two point conversion I was surprised they gave it to Jones

A.J. Dillon!!! I’ve been waiting all season for this game to happen. Lol nobody wants to tackle a 245 lb back that runs a 4.53 in the winter. Teams can stack the box all they want and a guy of his stature will push the pile and eventually wear them down. We should all feel really good about this 1-2 punch heading into the playoffs ESPECIALLY if the road runs through Lambeau.

When Jones got up holding his thigh, at that point I expected to see a lot more of D'Lion. Hopefully it was just a tweak. He didn't have the same burst when he came back in.

I hope these expectations are not too high for Dillon. One thing it all shows is that as much as we need D line, maybe corner and receiver; we better keep drafting O line and let Stenovich coach them up.

They can’t afford all 3. This is why they drafted Dillon.

I doubt anyone expected a rookie to be able to take over from Jones. It was hoped he would make the grade (which still isn't decided btw)...but I sure hope they had other plans if they intend to let Jones walk!

That's why they drafted someone high a year early, so that they could know whether he would be capable of it or not.

Many may not agree with the Packers plan at the running back spot, and I questioned it in the beginning, but the Packers have at least had a plan. And it appears like it could be coming to fruition right before our eyes. Long way to go, but last night was a very encouraging sign.

A rookie won’t be taking over for Jones. A 2nd year pro will be.

dillon had a terrific game in his official coming out party. tip toed a bit on the cut-backs (due to the footing) and needs to perfect his spin move (lol he's no eddie lacy) but downhill he was real good. good hands too.

Dillon looked good against the Titans. Looks like Corey Dillon so far, who was a decent NFL RB.

Jones told Good Morning Football that the talks with the Packers are ongoing.

If they extend Jones, then I am going to be very suspicious that the cap will end up a good bit higher than 175M next year, and that the Packers know it.

Agreed. I am not going to pretend to know the process that they will use to arrive at the final cap number, but I can see them having a lot of discussion on how lowering it to 175 unfairly penalizes quite a few teams. I also don't know the financial stability of all the teams, but I can imagine most of them can afford to spend more than 175, despite revenues being skewed this season by Covid.

Needless to say, its going to be a very interesting offseason for the NFL. The final cap # is something they are going to have to figure out well before Free Agency hits.

Somewhere Preston is smiling massively at this "possible" good news. Only chance he has...and honestly this could be the only way we shuffle and perhaps still cut Preston to pay Jones....lot to play out yet.

Agreed. I think the Packers are a better team with Preston, however, if its a matter of money being needed to improve elsewhere, he might be a logical cap causality. His recent play has been much better and maybe with a new DC (insert grin here), he will fit better into the Packers plans in 2021.

Kirksey is probably the preferred starter to be cut before Preston, that will save the Pack $6M. What I think is kind of funny and a bit ironic. The Packers had Goodson last season and the Browns had Kirksey, the 2 basically switched teams. Both have failed to impress with their new teams. Packers got the short end of the stick on that though, since Goodson was paid a lot less and probably not viewed as a full solution to a problem at ILB.

Oh Kirksey is gone for sure without taking a pay cut.

I'm a touch curious if there is a team with cap space that lacks seriously in the edge rush department that could desire Preston's services. Jaguars or a similar team wanting to start a push could be curious of him...not sure on timing but a leak post SB that Preston is potentially touchable in a trade could garner attention.

lol...what do you mean?

i think linsley is gone regardless of the cap number. williams or jones is gone (most likely jones if the cap is 175). preston is gone (gary get's his spot). the list is long.

I concur, now if the cap is 195 instead of 175....there is a chance either Linsley or Jones get signed.....

Surefire walks for me presently include Linsley, Jones, King....unless cap changes modify it some. Tonyan is possibly playing himself out of GB as well. Williams too if Jones is retained is too expensive.

Surefire cuts to me are Kirksey and Lowry and Burks. Wagner and Preston are both on the block and ready for the blade to fall if salary cap and or inability to sign others happens.

i don't see them keeping anyone when a cheap, competent, and proven replacement is already on the roster.

I like Aaron Jones, but the reality and issue is that guys with his skillset, being young and multidimensional will almost be a "dime a dozen" soon I think. Not saying that he isn't very good.

Offenses in college are already featuring runningbacks that should/can catch...and that's why you will see a guy like Dillon (orinically) being less used. Because no one is looking for a bell cow or Jerome Bettis type anymore

So maybe it won't be "worth" spending all that money to resign Aaron Jones if you could potentially find someone YOUNGER and with less miles/wear & tear in the NFL draft???

That's the way I see it

Good idea. However and I could be wrong, but it seems there really aren't a lot of trades made during that time period. I think if teams sense that a player is going to be cut lose, they are inclined to wait. So even if the Packers do find a team to trade with, they would probably be lucky to get a 6th for Preston. I also think that depending on the cap, this could be a total buyers market in Free Agency. Those few teams that are cap fat, will have the pick of the crop and probably after some of the fat calves are signed, some real bargains will be had. Players like Smith might have to sign one year deals for whatever they can get.
