Ted Thompson Era Should Be Over

For all of the TT "shortcomings" and roster "holes" the Packers are still highly regarded as Super Bowl LII upper-echelon contenders. I believe this offseason there needs to be significant roster moves (re-signing and/or replacing FA's, draft, cap-casualties). Sun. PM "Pregame.com" page: http://pregame.com/pregame-forums/f/9/t/1632388.aspx
2017-18 Super Bowl Odds

Patriots 7/1
Falcons 12/1
Cowboys 12/1
Packers 12/1
Seahawks 15/1
Broncos 17/1
Steelers 18/1
Raiders 18/1
Chiefs 20/1
Giants 20/1
Colts 30/1
Panthers 30/1
Cardinals 35/1
Vikings 35/1
Bucs 40/1
Texans 40/1
Ravens 42/1
Eagles 48/1
Dolphins 50/1
Titans 50/1
Redskins 60/1
Bengals 70/1
Lions 70/1
Saints 75/1
Chargers 80/1
Bills 80/1
Jags 100/1
Bears 125/1
Rams 150/1
Jets 150/1
Browns 400/1
49ers 400/1

Foxsports has: NE 6-1; Dallas 10-1; GB & Seattle 11-1; Atlanta 11.25-1; and Steelers 15-1 as top 6.

The Packers having Rodgers as the team´s quarterback is the only reason they´re listed that high.

He wanted to carry either Crockett or Jackson also but they too ended up injured.

It´s possible the Packers wanted to keep Crockett as the team´s third running back but decided to release Jackson at the end of training camp before signing him to the practice squad. It was a mistake to have only two players at the position on the 53 for parts of the season.

PFF just put an interesting stat out on Twitter. A list of corners who played the most snaps following the opponent's #1 WR. Guess who was second? Casey Hayward followed the #1 on 241 snaps (Peterson was first with 259). I can understand why that caliber of corner wasn't worth $5m per year.

I'll admit I was wrong, but outside of a nice rookie year, Hayward mostly disappointed me here. A lot due to injury and he came back to have a nice season going into FA, but let's not forgot he was outplayed and replaced by a rookie that year as well before the season ended.

Much like House before him, I wasn't sad to see him go. After this year I'm kicking myself for thinking that. It happens in football

To be honest...the next GM isnt currently in the organization. Its only to be Dorsey from KC. This is going to be Ted's last year esp if we win the super bowl next year.

Haha i wish! Just my honest opinion. I think the other two are too young for the GM role and i know dorsey really wanted to be GM of the packers. I think when the spot opens and he guns for it murphy wont be able to look elsewhere.

Just my opinion! Different things I have read over the years. I have heard dorsey loves GB and i imagine he would have re upped in KC by now....im sure he sees Thompson almost on the way out and who wouldnt want a job like this? No owner to get in your way...loyal fan base...cap space aplenty and oh yeah Aaron Rodgers.

Just got an email about some sort of Packers shareholder exclusive collectible. Is this the kind of stuff Mark Murphy is working on?

I've read a lot about Dorsey being the guy behind the scenes, also. But the longer Ted stays the less options we'll have. IMO, he'll be here at least through the 2018 season. In effect, holding the team's future hostage, as I don't know of anyone else at 1265 with the balls to tell him otherwise.

I partly agree with that but the Packer fan base could get TT out of there if they really wanted too and put enough pressure on. I just think a lot of fans still have some hope that TT will somehow magically change or this system he is running is gonna work again somehow. Change is scary for a lot of people. I'm hoping for the best but it's one of those things I'll have to see to believe at this point.

I'd like to agree with your first sentence, but can't. The rest of the post, yeah.
There isn't a team in the NFL that will do such things based on the 'fans'- or anything else for that matter as I believe for the most part they don't give two damns about the fans or what they think.

Thompson is here until he wants to retire. Our only hope is he does what's needed to fix the D. Otherwise this team isn't sniffing a SB for a few more years.

I loved the Packers 8-0 run to close the season and I said this back when they were 4-6, how did that 8-0 table run change things in the front offices going forward? Had the Packers finished out of the playoffs and at 6-10, would TT, Capers and MM still be in Green Bay? Just hypothetical food for thought, since people are saying "no way TT is ever fired".

I'm just so worried TT and the gang will chalk this season up to unfortunate injuries in the secondary and be happy they made it all the way to the NFCCG.

But it's so much deeper than that imo. This season highlighted the flimsy depth and talent that relied in the secondary. The same thing would've happened to the run defense if Daniels went down and to the pass rush if Clay went down. TT got incredibly lucky Perry turned into something this season. The pass rush would've been awful if that didn't happen.

This team is borderline closer to being a rebuilding team on defense than it is to being a SB caliber one and that's a terrible scenario with #12 and #87 getting up there in age.

I'm just saying that Packer fans could really turn up the heat on Murphy and make it easier to force his hand. I mean heck they went out and got 20k signatures because they didn't like a broadcaster calling Packer games. Shoot, get 200k signatures to get TT out of town and including all the shareholders. Get people down there at 1265 protesting. lol. Get enough momentum and things can be changed.

Packer fans won't do this as there too loyal and hold a high level of tradition and pretty damn good hearted but I tell ya what. If this team gets derailed and starts giving up 40 burgers again while scoring 2o something and runs out of "magic" making an A-Rodge playoff run with TT doing nothing outside of drafting nothing special this off-season I'm stepping back. I will still love the Packers and watch games and follow them but I wont be going to anymore road games or the home game I go to Lambeau other then family night. Why should I go all in if the damn GM can't? Not gonna invest in watching maybe the greatest QB of all time being wasted away in his prime.

I feel ya, but I am a bit more optimistic about our offense though. I think that, especially with AR is just fine. Doesn't mean we don't need to resign Cook, find a complimentary RB to pair with Monty and keep an eye on our OL and WR in the way of starters and depth, but in general, its in good shape IMO.

The defense is a whole different story. As you say, if TT and Co. chalk this years defensive inadequacies up to injuries and the need to develop the younger guys, they are in for a surprise in 2017. Besides Daniels, Burnett and Dix there isn't a lot to talk about in regards to the starters, nor the guys behind them on defense. I think what the Packers do between now and the draft (signing our own and FA's) will give us all a very good indication of what condition TT and Co. perceive our defense to be in.

Again- and specifically TT and Murphy- they won't listen or give a damn.
And I doubt this or any other fan base will be wasting their time holding protests outside of 1265.
