What I can't process is what happens to the cap rollover the next year when you roll over some again. If you roll over 10 mill in 2015 and then roll over 8 mil in 2016......didn't you pretty much pocket 8 mil that Murphy can dump into that ridiculous monstrosity he is building?
The $8m rollover from 2016 was the $10m rollover into 2016 less $2m spent. Basically TT exceeded the alloted cap this season by $2m which he brought into the year from past years. The other $8m was just passed through the books. Sort of like your IRA gets passed through year after year for some future expenditure and doesn't appear in your check book to get spent until then.

For some reason when I saw this picture of Big Foot, Elvis and the Loch Ness Monster, it reminded of the chances we have of seeing TT making a "big splash" in the FA Market this offseason. While I don't expect him to completely sit on his hands, we will probably see another signing similar to a player like Cook at CB and/or OLB.

What I'm saying is he got beat a ton his rookie year, he got beat a ton his second year. That's not a slump, that's a pattern.

I understand he is young and he could progress into a solid corner, but the evidence from his first two seasons is that he tends to get beat an awful lot, and is a poor tackler.

The jury is still out on Randall, no denying that. For me, It's hard to draw a lot from this year other than what I thought about him early on. He has the skills, he needs to be coached, and he needs to believe in his coaching and the plan. But he was hurt too much this year to really make conclusions. I don't know if he was playing so far off and and so poorly at times because that's how he wanted to play it, or if that's how he was forced to play it because he knew he just couldn't keep up.

After the rookie campaigns I came away with the impression that Rollins would be a very solid DB. Not a huge splash play guy, just the guy that goes out and covers and breaks up passes. I thought Randall would be the more noticeable of the 2 for both good and bad. He seems to take more chances, which creates big play opportunities, both ways. Right now, my impression hasn't changed a lot because of so much injury this year, but they both have a lot to prove going forward. I think at least 1 of them will be this years Adams. Right now i'm leaning towards Rollins, because I think mentally he's tougher and more coachable. I think Randall things too much of himself, which can be good, once he allows himself to be coached. Maybe i'm wrong and it was just injury that made him play this way this year. But i've seen him run with too good of receivers and make some great breaks on balls to make a pick to believe the guy doesn't have the physical tools to be very good in this league. Even if he's just guessing, it still takes talent to make that play. Open yourself up for coaching, let the game work itself out, let it slow down for you, and then you don't have to guess, you just make plays. But that takes time and work. We'll see if he puts it in or not.

Haven't the Wolfe and Thompson eras yielded the same number of SB victories?

True but Farse had better defenses than Rodgers ever had. Rodgers has really only had one good defense since he took over. Farse had at least several. Not to mention the fact that he had Ahman Green to hand the ball off to. You put Rodgers on a Couple of those 90's teams that Farse had?? and the Packers win at least another two SB's...at least bringing Wolfes total to about three.

It amazes me how People to this day harp about Rodgers not being the risk taker Farse was. Those people are the ones that clearly don't understand football. Why would you put this defense on the field anymore than what they have to be? Putting more pressure on yourself and the offense to score points.

I'm not sure to what extent I agree, but even then doesn't the reality remain that Thompson found Rodgers and in the end built a team to equal Wolf's?

Yeah it's a good thing Denver had Peyton to carry them to the superbowl last season. This season proved their team is no better than ours without him. :whistling: How far did that vaunted defense get in the playoffs this year again?

Not sure what you're saying here. Denver clearly won the SB on the back of their defense last year. But the gap between their Super Bowl winning defense and ours is massive.

Not saying that you can't win a Super Bowl on a great D rather than a great QB. But our defense is obviously light years away from being on that level.

Denver still had a good team this year but the rest of the division caught up to them and they lost some important pieces from the Super Bowl D.

I really didn't understand his comment either. Denver went "all in" on defense last season. They got the SB win, but are paying for it now.

Don't think anyone is saying Ted should break the bank, but he should tinker and try some things to improve the roster ala Billicheck. Thompson has a large margin for error after all thanks to his pick of Rodgers. He just chooses not to use it for some stubborn reason.

The problem is, when you're always pickin in the high 20s you don't get a chance to get the best of the best.
Kinda like the Eagles during the later Andy Reid era.
Got to the championship game, but only won 1.
Then lost the SB

Trying to point out that if you take a HOF QB off any roster, they will struggle to make the playoffs. Used Denver as my example but could just as well used Pittsburgh.

Gotcha, just thought Denver was kind of an odd example as Manning was pretty bad last year and his absence clearly wasn't the issue as to why they dropped off this year, Manning pretty much rode the coattails of an elite defense.

I agree with what you're saying but I think the influence of Rodgers on the Packers is a little more extreme than with any other team. I think if you took a league average QB, say, a Joe Flacco, and put him behind center in Green Bay, I would say we have a 5 or 6 win team on our hands.

and that trade happened September 7th.

Just FYI, people were still saying this about guys like Randall a week after that trade occured.

It doesn't matter when that trade happened. I've been told by several posters that it's impossible to acquire a cornerback via trade during the season but as it seems that's simply not true. Of course Belichick was able to pull off a move like that while Thompson wasn't.

Let's not forget that even the Patriots with all their byes and greatest coach of all time, have only one Super Bowl win in 12 years. Brady has the same number of rings as AR12 since he started in GB. They have also had a lot of soft schedules including this season. Rodgers has a good 7 years left. A couple more isn't out of the question.

Once again it doesn´t make any sense to ignore the first three Super Bowls the Patriots have won by setting a random time frame. BTW the other teams in the AFC East have a better win percentage against non division opponents than the Bears, Lions and Vikings combined since 2001.

you're right, no sense. It makes no sense to compare similar time frames and if Ted was worth a ****, he'd have been winning super bowls as a GM before ever becoming a GM, LOL

Belichick has won four Super Bowls, lost another two and will play in his seventh on Sunday as the de facto general manager of the Patriots. Yet some of the posters around here want us to believe that Thompson who has taken the Packers to a single Super Bowl winning it is on the same level as Belichick by picking a random time frame. Ridiculous!!!

It kind of does, because you yourself admitted the DB's were not a problem to start the year, or at least everybody had pretty expectations at that point. When is september 7th in relationship to the football season in the NFL? Just curious.

it's not random, it's ACTUALLY the time frame that Ted Thompson has been a GM. Crazy I know. and I think Belichick and the Patriots are on their own level. Quit feeding words in everyone's mouths in every single debate.

The Patriots being able to trade for a cornerback four days before the start of the regular season should work as evidence that it´s possible to pull off a move like that. In addition the Lions were able to acquire a CB that started 37 games for the Bucs at the trade deadline for a seventh round pick.

who was arguing you couldn't pull off a trade before the season started? yay, for the Lions. What did their DB bring them? What would he have brought us?

That doesn´t change the fact it´s not the time frame that Belichick has been the Patriots GM. If you want to compare him to Thompson you should take a look at the entire tenure of both of them.

You were repeatedly arguing that it´s absolutely impossible to trade for a cornerback once in need of an upgrade at the position. The Packers and Thompson had several weeks to pull off a move like that once it became abundantly clear the unit struggled mightily but of course thought promoting practice squad players was the only way to go. Unfortunately it cost us a trip to the Super Bowl.

It's not an arbitrary timeframe. A big point on this thread has been Ted only gettin us to one SB with AR12. My point being that 1. It's not easy to do, and 2. Brady/Belichick have 1 ring in 12 years, since ARod entered the league.

if I compare them, I definitely Rank Bill ahead of everyone. I'm not excluding the years before Ted was a GM so I can even them up. I'm also not ignoring the fact that during the same exact time frame, when all other variables were as equal as they were going to get, they're fairly similar
