The QB position being at the forefront and in cases where the a franchise QB of 15+ years and Rodgers Stature? I think he’s an exception. Now that does not imply we go wild and say he’s involved in every minute detail, but I think it’s good business to reward a seasoned player of Aaron’s caliber with plans that are critical to that QB position and his success.
I see it the same way. At the time, it was known that Belichik sought input from Brady on some personnel decisions, and I think Rodgers felt he was entitled to the same consideration. I think it would have been a nice gesture on Gutekunst's part to give in a little - if for no other reason than to show Rodgers that he was respected, and keep him happy in his role.
I can't seem to find the post now, but someone (Joe?) mentioned that Rodgers' resentment went back at least as far as 2018, when they cut Nelson in March. I'd forgotten that, but I remember now that he also was angry that they let Alex van Pelt, his quarterback coach, go that same off-season. He felt that he should have been at least peripherally brought into the conversations.
So by the time Love was drafted, Rodgers had been simmering for at least 2 full seasons. We know that he was also unhappy that he wasn't given any real weapons to work with, and from some things he's said, it sounds as though he had offered/asked on a number of occasions to have input on personnel decisions - including actively helping to recruit free agents. According to him, he was rejected each time, until he finally gave up.
So you add all that up, it's easy to see why (by 2020, 21, 22) he really wasn't happy here, and felt alienated from management. Whether or not that was
reasonable of him, different people will have different opinions, but at least it does help understand how and why things came to a head.
