Oh I think that Sophomore slump is a real thing. Rodgers got knocked around a little in 2009. Then you couple Love’s injury and taking until after the Bye to get his legs under him. I think it wasn’t a great season, but Jordan is a competitor and he rebounded down the stretch with respectable numbers.
I agree, mostly. But on the other hand, the Packers lost their last three games. Right when you want them to pick things up, the wheels kind of fell off at the end there.

Interesting point. The last few games of the season showed a team with little inspiration. I don't get that. A player shouldn't need to be "coached up" for games leading into the playoffs, much less the playoffs.

And it was a complete reversal of the team from a season before, the team that thrashed Dallas at home and came very, very close to getting to the NFCCG.

Hopefully this season is a return to that earlier form.

Yeah, that's why it was so aggravating. From Rodgers' "run the table" and "R-E-L-A-X", the team usually got stronger as the season went on. Until they inevitably laid a giant egg in the NFCCG.

While that’s true, we lost to the SB Champs at their house. We actually finished the regular season 5-3, including the only shutout Win of the season 34-0. I don’t put too much emphasis on week 18 either.

Yeah, the Saints stunk, but still I think it was like the only shutout of the season in the NFL. Or at least the first. I was getting some high hopes around that time, since the defense was looking so good. But then they went flat and never won another game.

There have been a lot of seasons where we lost in the playoffs to the NFC team that eventually went to the Super Bowl, whether they won or lost. Just another indication that we couldn't get over the hump.

Sure. I don’t think we were SB ready. Let’s face it though, Philly was peaking and they had a super well rounded team at peak performance also. Also the NFC was the class of the league with multiple teams vying for a 1 seed.
Recall too we laid down week 18. Malik was our leading passer. Heath our leading receiver etc. I wouldn’t put much weight in a walk off FG against our backups. Now Philly they were physical and beat us up.

I like what we did recently on OL it’s an upgrade. We still don’t compare anywhere close to Rodgers 2nd season Roster wise. We need a WR badly after losing Watson, we need another incumbent to rise either at TE (Musgrave) or WR (Wicks etc). If that happens we could be looking at a 12-13 Win team in a good Conference. It’d be a bonus if Lloyd gets healthy and pops, which is very possible imo. IMO he’s a player that will translate very quickly, it took him 1 rush to crack 10 yards. Just wait until he gets involved in the screen game he’s like Jacobs in space.

The QB position being at the forefront and in cases where the a franchise QB of 15+ years and Rodgers Stature? I think he’s an exception. Now that does not imply we go wild and say he’s involved in every minute detail, but I think it’s good business to reward a seasoned player of Aaron’s caliber with plans that are critical to that QB position and his success.
I see it the same way. At the time, it was known that Belichik sought input from Brady on some personnel decisions, and I think Rodgers felt he was entitled to the same consideration. I think it would have been a nice gesture on Gutekunst's part to give in a little - if for no other reason than to show Rodgers that he was respected, and keep him happy in his role.

I can't seem to find the post now, but someone (Joe?) mentioned that Rodgers' resentment went back at least as far as 2018, when they cut Nelson in March. I'd forgotten that, but I remember now that he also was angry that they let Alex van Pelt, his quarterback coach, go that same off-season. He felt that he should have been at least peripherally brought into the conversations.

So by the time Love was drafted, Rodgers had been simmering for at least 2 full seasons. We know that he was also unhappy that he wasn't given any real weapons to work with, and from some things he's said, it sounds as though he had offered/asked on a number of occasions to have input on personnel decisions - including actively helping to recruit free agents. According to him, he was rejected each time, until he finally gave up.

So you add all that up, it's easy to see why (by 2020, 21, 22) he really wasn't happy here, and felt alienated from management. Whether or not that was reasonable of him, different people will have different opinions, but at least it does help understand how and why things came to a head.

This sort of thing is why I like to stay hidden under the bed on April 1st. But so far today I've seen all the jokes coming.
Just speaking for me, this is one advantage of being older - I've seen most everything when it comes to April 1st and it's hard(er) to get one past me. I didn't get caught today, but then again, no one tried. Yet.

As I said, normally I spend the entire day under the bed, so I don't have to experience the jokes.

Best one I've seen is our local library's announcement of their new "Check Out A Chicken" program, to address the rising price of eggs.

Thanks to the generous support of some local poultry farmers, we’ve added a brood of laying hens to our collection, and you can check one out and be on your way to serving those omelets, crepes, casseroles and deviled eggs your family has been missing. Use the link below to register for the program, and you will be contacted when a hen is available for you to take home for a 14-day period, enough time to provide just over a dozen eggs for your family. Limit one hen per checkout; there are no renewals.

You are responsible for returning them in good condition. You MAY NOT cook or consume your chicken! All chickens must be returned to the library during regular hours
DO NOT leave chickens in the book drop!

As far as sports go the Sports Illustrated Sidd Finch article has to be the best ever.
That was classic. The Mets finally had to give it up when both Senator Patrick Moynihan Commissioner Peter Ueberroth called and demanded to know whether this story was for real.

I know we have a mature audience here, but for any member who doesn't know what we're talking about on account of being born too recently...

"Lane calls me up and says, I got a baseball story involving the New York Mets," Berton told cllct. "He goes, Yeah, it's about this guy whose got a great fastball, 160-some mile an hour fastball. All he's got is it a French horn and a food bowl and a rug.

"And I'm thinking, 'This is too crazy. But I'm like, well, it is the Mets, yeah?' ...
